I have several family trees on my website. Is it possible to link a name from "family tree A" to a person from "Family tree B"?

Is anyone currently using adsense to monetise (hah) their website? If so where have you found the best place to add the code? I would appreciate links to your site to see the effect... Merry Christmas and I sincerely hope that you aren't too seriously affected by Covid. Hopefully 2021 will be an improvement on 2020.

I am using TNG v. 12.3. I recently added 3 employment custom events to an existing individual in my database, but these custom events do not show in the normal view! The employment custom event shows in the normal view for other individuals. Can anyone suggest a cause and fix for this? Unfortunately, this is for a living individual that I must now publicly share in order to seek resolution. Screenshots attached. Thanks!

I recently created a duplicate TNG site by copying the backup data tables to a new location. However, although the people.bak files were the same for both sites, in the new duplicate site I cannot find (using advanced search on the individual ID) many of the individuals that are in the database. To summarize my dilemma, for my public site now, on the Admin Home page it shows 69,077 individuals in the database. And, if I do an advance search for all people without entering any name information I get 69,077 results. This is as should be expected. However, for the duplicate site, on the Admin Home page it shows 68,891 individuals in the database. But, if I do an advance search for all people without entering any name information I get only 34,999 results. It appears that the individuals that cannot be found using TNG search are the living individuals, although the TNg statistics say that there are 34,292 of them, not 68,891-34,999=33,892 of them. Do not be concerned about the numerical difference between 69,077, and 68,891, as more individuals have been added to the public site since I copied the people.bak data table. Can anyone come up with a reason for why this would be, and how I can correct it so that all individuals can be accessed on my duplicate site?

Something I've not needed to do before but now want to setup a user to view some of the trees on my site. Even though the box is checked to allow to view living individuals they still show as "living", but not if they are allowed to view all trees. Something I am missing?

Just posted a new Template_Switch mod. It is a variation of a private mod I use for testing across TNG templates, and also can be used to offer users ability to select templates. Much faster switching between templates without entering Administration. It is supported on TNG 12.3 and greater.

I had TNG installed and working properly on a Synology RS 815 NAS. But after a reset of the server, I can't get TNG reinstalled. The data base is still existent. PHP and html seem to work fine (e.g. on Mediawiki). When I try to install a new instance of TNG, I get Please wait, attempting to process.. on "Set permissions" followed by the message in annex. Does anyone know what might be the cause? "Set permissions" has no influence on the database or am I wrong?

Just want to let you know I solved this problem, which was obviously a part of mod settings. I had uninstalled the mods but didn't delete them, thought that wasn't necessary. But looks like deleting the mods after uninstalling did that. I'm good. Thanks for looking at my problem! My wife loves this program! And we've been using it for the past 3-4 years (I think). She is extremely meticulous in all the data that she collects and the research that she performs. I am a programmer myself, and I make small changes here and there to be able to use the program more like she wants to. An example is the header on the people pages: [see image 1] So she can easily navigate back and forth in the generations. One thing she would really like is: She wants to be able to "reuse" citations. It's not really the "Copy Last" functionality that already exists... she wants to be able, at any time, to go to, for example, an event, and click on the citations icon, and be able to search for an existing citation and attach that citation to the event. A similar functionality exists within media, where I can pick "Citation" in the dropdown: [see image 2] then click on the magnifying glass and get the form: [see image 3] I suspect that in doing something like this, the citation would be duplicated (with a new ID), but she wouldn't have to input all of the details of the citation again. It would be even better, in my opinion, if it actually reused the original citation and somehow "linked" that same citation to the other event, but that might cause some other issues down the road, if she were to edit a citation and not realize that it is associated to more than one event. The reason for this, is that, for example, she finds an article about a given person... that article might contain numerous facts, like what sports/clubs/organizations the person was involved in during their college years. Since it is a single article, if that article spawns multiple facts, she is forced to input the citation multiple times, once for each fact. Potentially, any media that is associated with that citation could be automatically associated to the additional facts... but that might be something along the lines of: "This citation has media associated with it [media list] Do you want to link this media to this fact as well? [Yes] [No] This might seem somewhat overkill, but her tree has around 1600 people in it already (I believe she's in the 14th century already). It's to the point where a complete fan chart cannot be generated (it just sits there processing until PHP times out, even the php_maxtime, or whatever it's called, set high does no good ) I know... crazy... but... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Any help would be appreciated... if someone is willing to make a mod to do this... I'm willing to pay, so hit me up! Tony

Hi All! Wierd thing happen... I use tng v12.3, Rick too With the same gedcom, our sites looks different. I specify that no Mod is installed on both sites and changing of template have no effect too... This gedcom contains a special case : two persons are married twice : once in 1846 , the second marriage the jul 4, 1865. (Gedcom line 350 and next) Those two marriage are concerning Peter SWINDELLS and Mary GARDINER. Can some of you try to import this little gedcom (20 families) and look what is showing on his screen? The members select their own password and there is no password setting requirement. My members are insisting strong password requirement as they would be putting their family info. I need Capital+small+numbers+special charactors (@,#,%,&,) and minimum 6charactors. If members generating password does not meet the requirement, it should reject and give reasons. Is there any solutions in TNG ? Will appreciate feedback Thanks Kris

I've been using the Kloosterman method to my satisfaction for awhile now, but one thing I simply can't figure out. On kloosterman.be, template colors from one of the templates other than the default. No matter what I do, I seem to get the default template colors, so I made my menu colors similar just to avoid dealing with it. It's been awhile though, and I'm getting ready to do another part of our family, and I'd like to be able to get TNG to use a different template color scheme. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I've even tried copying one of the other template folders to "template1" but it doesn't help. I really didn't see anything in the setup instructions that would cover this. I feel like I'm just overlooking something basic! If I turn back on "select template" I can see the template I have chosen, but turning it off (which is what makes the actual system work), just gives me the default template again. I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the built in Mod Mangager in V 12 to install Simple SEO. I have already placed the mod in my Mod's folder and unzipped it. Now what do I do? I'm a Newbie and haven't figured this out. Thanks, Linda

I have tried both the MODS Show Step parents and Show all family. but in the later one it will not show step parents even though it is set to do so. If I only have Show Step parents they are shown as they should. See attached screen shots for comparison. Thanks Jan

Is there any way to insert a nickname or an alias for a person? I see that there is a place for nickname, but I guess what confuses me is that I have a database in Legacy that includes a place for an alias for each individual, but that data didn't seem to get transferred. I notice that in the GED file, the nicknames are shown as 1 Name /Nick/ and this always occurs right after 2 SURN surname and then is followed by 2 GIVN 2 SURN Nick which really confuses me What does TNG do with that nickname?

Folks, not sure how much information to share here in order to get the point across, but I'll try and be concise and provide extra information as needed. frankly, I don't think (a) - (c) are needed, other than for context. (a) I use Diane Begemen's method to record my census data in "The Master Genealogist" (TMG) as referenced on this site. http://tmg.reigelridge.com/Census.htm (b) standard gedcom export from TMG does not properly handle this on export due to the use of witnesses. (c) as such, I've created a report in TMG that pulls the data I'm interested in. I then save as .csv file. I then import into TNG using phpmyadmin. (d) this process works very well with one exception. when I save the file from excel into a .csv file; some of the dates are saving properly; while others are not. the dates that are not saved properly (they have slashes instead of dashes) end up as zero's in the eventdatetr field which then is causing my person view in TNG to not be sorted properly. (e) so basically excel has the proper format for the dates (all dashes). this can be seen in the attachment "report_in_excel". (f) the csv file has the wrong date format, but only for some dates (those with slashes instead of dashes). this can be seen in the attachment "report_in_csv". (g) upon import through phpmyadmin, the events table can be seen in "report_in_phpmyadmin". this shows the records that had slashes in the dates rather than dashes coming in all as zeros into eventdatetr. hope this makes sense. happy to answer any questions. thank you for any assistance.

I'm having trouble with reCaptcha. I added the keys from google reCaptcha and realized I should be using v2 keys. I can't find any options for V2. Where would I find the V2 keys? My website TNG V 12.1 (Mac OS Catalina)

I've resigned myself to doing a fresh install of v12.3. My updating of a previous install had left my old v12.3 site buggy and with extraneous information. Unfortunately I do have a number of users on the 'old' site. My question is how can I move those users (login info etc.) to the new site? Thank you, Dwayne

Should I be able to change a user's password and/or email address in the User panel in TNG v12? I have users who have asked me to change these items but the changes I make don't stick. Should I just have them re-register with the new email address? Beleaguered admins want to know. Thanks, Gary

Greetings, I am new to TNG and I am working on my village family tree. I only have information dating back to the 1800. While entering data, I noticed that a lot of times the same names repeat (First and Last) rendering it very difficult to find the right person to connect. Based on the sources I am reading, the connections were based on the first name, last name AND father's name of the person. My question: Is it possible when searching for a person to add the father's name as a search parameter? Is it possible to display the father's name as another filed in the search results?
