Error in seach for Families

I have updated a lot of families, removing Male, Female and children. Family is then empty. I have a family of an individual where when selecting a child and then selecting the "ancestors" tab at the top to show a tree, some children work and show the tree and some children when selecting the "ancestors" tab it does not produce a tree. Any ideas ?

Geocode and similar problems

1) Many places don't show .long and .lat, but still bring up the right place when the "white on purple arrow" is clicked 2) Maps are shown with numbers 1 , 2 ... on a pink tick mark. When clicking on those tick marks a Google map is shown that would try to indicate the route from my location to that place. Strange!

In getperson.php page show generic message to users

I have an idea to put a section at the bottom of the getperson page with a generic message for the users who visit my site. It should be the same message for all but visible for everyone who visit. The idea is to inform them that if they give admission to show their name on the site if they are present in my tree, that is that they have come to my site from a search on an ancestor that I have in my tree. I know that some people like that and many found themselves on my site before we got the GDPR. Is there a MOD for that?

Stop duplicate people on a report

I really use the report facility a huge amount when helping people find their ancestors in a one place study. I have over 60 available reports but one thing really bugs me because I can't find a way to stop the same people appearing multiple times. Example. I use many find people who "lived in" reports. Example in attached screen shot is Hastings Road Corsham Wiltshire. The report works fine apart from you have to use the residence field and that pulls all records for that person where a matching address appears. The example shows the same person 4 times for 1901/1911/1921/1939 censuses. There for 20 people living in a certain street could make list 50-70 entries. Is there a way to skip person if already listed. Thank you in adavance for any suggestions Joe

I have thousands of people in my family tree. Names, dates, places — decades of research. UPDATE/Solved: Solution found. Problem solved. I toggled [mysqli] in the version options. This was previously unchecked. TNG requires [msqli], [gd] and [mbstring]. Hello TNG community. Version: TNG 14.0.6 Site: https://majercin.genealogy.com Issue: When switching my PHP version on my hosts (A2 / Hosting.com) cPanel management system, it kills TNG. I am currently running PHP version 7.4 on my shared host account. I wish to elevate this to PHP version 8.2. All my subdomains are prefixes off the main page. Genealogy resides at: genealogy.majercin.com I am attempting to begin work on a new subdomain. The recommendation was to bump the PHP version to 8.2. When I did, my TNG site hits a status 500 error on index.php (on the genealogy site). Question: is there a tool/setting/tweak inside of the TNG structure which allows a change in the PHP version it operates on? Thanks in advance for any help. I do appreciate it very much.

Missing? menu item after updating to v15?

After having been away for awhile I am back at it so updated to version 15 today. All seems to be going well expect for 2 small issues. #1: There is a white space in the menu bar that looks like something should be there? Where would I locate that? I am using Template #13. #2: For the main index page of the family tree, on my pc the photo strip is knocked down a line and just looks awful. Now if I change my browser to view at 90% it looks the way it should and how it looks on my other pc at 100%. Can someone suggest a fix for this?

Problem with templatemsgs.php

I think this, also with the help of chat gpt, has largely succeeded, but it still doesn't work because templatemsgs.php is not installed. I asked chat gpt what I should fill it with and was then referred to existing files with that name, but they are all empty. What now?

Safe External Links mod

In some cases the following message may appear when the Safe External Links mod (V15.0.0.4) is used in combination with Open Street Map (OSM) This is due to the fact that OSM in some cases needs a referrer which is blocked by the mod and therefor generates the 403r error. I'm currently working on a solution to mittigate the error. Release most likely somewhere next week. Since I don't use Google maps I wonder if the error is also generated when using Google Maps. So if there are users who use my mod in combination with Google Maps, please lt me know if you also see the 403r error.

I cant find how to write to author Niels or the last updater Brett but Show Nicknames needed a little work (an error in the location of an insert that leads to some odd behaior, a missing global variable and some variables that needed to be tested). The 4th release of the templates DayLight, and NightLight are now available for TNG 15.0 and later. Although cosmetically v15.0.0.3 doesn't change much--the look-and-feel is largely the same--there are some big changes under the covers, and some cool new features for your site. I've spent a lot of time improving the mobile layout and finally (after a lot of trial and error) solved the issue of presenting the navigation bar on TNG detail pages. (Click any of the images for full-size previews): Here are the new and updated features: All of the table-based formatting has been removed in favor of flex and grid boxes (a much more modern coding standard). What this means is the templates respond much better to changes in the browser's width, scaling and repositioning seamlessly and automatically. The right-side navigation bar can now be revealed on a TNG detail page (such as getperson.php or browsesources.php). Look for the hamburger icon that appears in the content section when you switch to a detail page. This even works on mobile devices where it's important not to clutter the content sections with the navigation bar. Responsive design for mobile is greatly improved, and I've even managed to integrate my mobile upgrades with the TNG mobile mode. This is important because TNG's mobile mode makes changes to the content sections of pages, reducing the size of diagrams and tables to accommodate mobile devices. I've added some new icons that are more indicative of what they do. There's now a "scroll-to-the-top" icon in the footer. I'm now going to go back and make the similar updates to NearDark2 and NearDawn2. Unfortunately, due to a number of changes in how TNG processes headers and footers, I cannot port these new templates to TNG 14. So the v3 templates are only compatible with TNG 15.0 and later. If you want to see these templates in action, either DayLight or NightLight (depending on my mood ) is active on Lindell-Herndon Genealogy. Below are some screenshots of how the new template looks at 'mobile' size and with the floating nav bar visible. Good afternoon from the Netherlands, I want to transfer part of my current TNG family tree (tree1) to another TNG family tree (tree2). Tree1 consists of four branches. I am exporting one of these branches via a GEDCOM export, including only the media links. I then import the data into tree2. This process goes smoothly. The photos are visible after the import, but the references to the so-called ‘thumb’ images are missing. Is there a solution to the problem with the missing references to the thumb images? I am getting the "Duplicate without user-selected canonical" issues with Google. I realise what it is but I have been away from any type of issues like this for so long I haven't a clue where to start. I have tried to read up on it and I could swear that it was 301 redirects we used to put on. Now they are talking about "tags" and .htaccess files etc. What is the best way for me to do it? Should I be choosing "https://www.stephendickson.scot" or "https://stephendickson.scot" as the main URL I want used. I'd heard that the www part was so 1990s now and that I should steer away from it.

Hello, I use sosa on my own website and it works fine with more than 8000 ancestors. I'm currently researching a friend's ancestry. I'm using TNG 15.0.3 and sosa 15.0.0.12c. Sosa stopped working a few ancestors ago (after around 1000 ancestors). I've clicked "set as sosa 1" several times for sosa 1, but the green dot is no longer displayed. How do I fix broken SQL-Database links in large numbers

Hi. I have a large database with almost 25 000 Individuals and a lot of sources from the Norwegian digital archives. Through their sources they provide a permanent link to the archival photo. I have added this link in my source citations like this. For some reason, this permanent link has changed and all the links in my database are wrong. The change is not in the name of images themselves, but for the domain, so I hope it will be possible to mass-change the URLs. Doing it manually would take an eternity. The link structure is like this: Old link: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20051202030207.jpg. New link: https://urn.digitalarkivet.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20051202030207.jpg If I could basically just change "www.arkivverket.no/" to "urn.digitalarkivet.no/", the links work again. Does anyone know how this can be done? I am not experience with SQL, but imagine it would be possible to do a replace command of some sort. Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Names, Nicknames, Aliases, Also Known As

Hi there, I am wondering if it could be considered that the way these things are dealt with could be considered for change. I find the way TNG deals with this complex subject quite difficult. The way it deals with things that I upload in my GEDCOM in my opinion could be better. What I am looking to see could be done is: 1. When there are multiple names (spellings etc.), they are all grouped under at the top under each other, not spread throught the indivduals page. 2. In the name field, the ability to create seperate names and have a tick box to choose the prefered version. 3. Have a "Also Known As" or "Known As" field which if used creates the the name to be inserted with "..." e.g. Margaret "Peggy" Dickson. This is different than a nickname. A Nickname is some thing like Margaret "Muncher" Dickson, which is a name not derived from their actual name. I don't know about other countries but in my country there's a huge percentage of people "Known As" different from their official name. e.g. William are very rarely known as that, Bill, Billy, Willy, Wullie, Willie, Wilbur to name but a few. 4. When there are multiple names, the prefered version to be used as the name at the top of the list under the "Name" and the other under to be listed under "Name (Alernative)" or something similar. It looks so much tidier. "Name (Alternative)" would be included in the searches so that the person could be found under all the iterations of their names. This is Ancestry and Family Tree Maker doing it. IMO looks neater and more logical. Family Tree Maker which creates the GEDCOM: Ancestry which receives the GEDCOM: All are searchable.

Residence vs. Address

Is there a reason why TNG will take an event "Residence" from a GEDCOM, but doesn't take an event "Address"? As far as I can see all the facts that are titled "Residence" come across well and all details are there. I have a few events that are "Address" but they don't seem to come across. There is a field created for "Address" but it isn't populated with the information. Could it be the GEDCOM? This is how the address event looks in admin: I can add an Address event manually which looks like this: On the individual page this how the two look.: So it managed to add the note from the GEDCOM although that is not showing on the admin panel. Didn't add the date or the actual address.

Census Plus International - Edit Error

Just updated to 15.0.4 - uninstalled mod, reinstalled after update (TNG 15.0.2+) ran the Fix, Check, and Update buttons but unable to edit census. All census are manually entered (i do not import from ancestry). I can edit in database, and the census displays on the person page as it has always done, so no major issue and rarely need to edit page anyway. However, when I do try to edit any census I get the following (see attachment). If this is just me I will sort with a removal and re-install, just wondering if anyone else has the same error Thanks Paul

TNG 14/15 Draft Mods - Combine Events and Place Info

Howdy - I am attaching two private mods for and would be thankful if anyone dares to test them! UPDATE - March 20 There does not seem to be a demand for any of these mods, so I don't plan to make them public. I am adding the most stable Combine Events (removed conflicts with Display Jobs and Census Plus and fixed a problem where collapsed census rows lost the census table), so that the unstable one will not float around. Cheers! UPDATE - Tested them both to install on tng 15 COMBINE EVENTS (just a cfg file)- This mod just collapses custom events to clean up a long list. - It also forces all custom events to be collapsed despite the settings for that event because the formatting gets super complex if they aren’t. PLACE INFO (cfg and folder) I have longed to be able to see information on the places on a person's page without leaving the getperson page. SO This mod takes over the little magnifying glass by a place name. When you click it, you get a pop-up that displays the information about the place. - place notes - the link to the place page - Wikimedia links places if you have that mod installed AND THEN - The distances between all the places on the person’s page to the place you clicked on in miles or km (see options) - A search button to search for the distances to other places not on the person’s page AND THEN - if you click on the magnifying glass icon on place listing in the popup - it will show the two places on the map. Distances are calculated by the Haversine formula SO they are generally much shorter than the road distances you get on google maps. This is the distance by flying. POTENTIAL ISSUES - The search works great for me BUT everyone enters places differently. However, it seems pretty good at finding places with the first name and shows the first five other finds as well. - No distances are shown, of course, for places that have been entered in the database without latitude and longitude. I've added one to the mix - ID TO CLIPBOARD: It is a little, light mod that copies the id number of a person onto the clipboard. I just recently hid the meta information on my pages (id number, tree, branch, last modified), in an effort to reduce distractions, given that i have created so many other distractions. But when I always go to a person's page to get their id number. And I often copy the number to use editing somewhere else, often getting more than I want and having to cut it down in a search box. So, I made this little mod to click on the id superscript next to a person's name -- only there for signed in users. And voila, the id is on the clipboard. I think that is it. Looking For Help With Coding at Top of Template Page

Burial Website Import Mod

I haven't added a Burial Website link to a Person in some time and when trying to do so today, it appears the Mod isn't working properly on my site. I deleted and reinstalled the latest version. But, when reviewing the Installation instructions, I also noticed that the Secondary Processes tab is no longer showing on the Import/ Export page. I see a Post-Import Utilities tab instead and the Burial Website mod is not listed. I wonder if I have made some error in a recent upgrade or something. I rechecked that the Mod is in my cPanel files where it should be but isn't showing as available in the Mod Manager list. I've refreshed several times of course. This is a decoration for your person page. I don't have all flags cataloged in the script, but the source has a lot more. You do not need to upload any media, but you do need a live internet connection to see the flags. The id is based on Countries defined in ISO 3166-1 standards. I'm not going to make any judgement calls on which flags will or will not be included. Copy from one site to another

I have two sites, one test and one prod. Up to now for my monthly updates I was using gedcom from Brother Keeper to those two sites. I want to drop BK and update only in TNG. What is the best way if I add my changes in the test site and if once a month or so I want to update my prod site? With Gedcom from one to the other or is there a better and safer way? Could we have a discussion of what each of us has discovered about the parameters of what photos upload to TNG?

This is probably my 6th year and more loads than yearly using TNG. Though I absolutely believe it is the best genealogy website program out there, I always have issues bringing in all my media. I'd love it if we can share parameters that upload correctly to TNG and what doesn't. I'll start. I've read that someone has all their photos at 250 by 250 kb before they reload their page. Another uses the parameters of 2000 x 2000 pixels. I know that I've checked picture that didn't load correctly or have thumbnails created for images that were less than that. I've also noticed that images I create and used often under those specs by far, inconsistently transfer in and have thumbnails created for them. This time, is was 49% of my images that wouldn't load or get thumbnails created for them. I'm hoping if we share, this will give Darrin new ideas to improve upon in his next version which we are always so grateful for. Thanks Darrin and others for participating.

Heritage-Flags mod

Hello LeAnne, I just installed your mod Heritage_Flags without changing any parameters in the mod. I use TNG 15.03 and template 18 together with 12 more, but the flags does not appear in them. I assume it shall work with any template. I also guess the flags are included in the mod, if not where are they supposed to be installed? Can I do that via FileZilla if not installed? As you understand I am not a skilled technical IT user, can you guide me? Leif

Link multiple headstones to a cemetery?

How can I link multiple headstones to a cemetery? I have my list of headstones and my list of cemeteries, but the headstones are not linked to a cemetery. I can see how to do this with each individual headstone (by using the Cemetery dropdown list in the Headstone form), but I'm hoping there is an easier way than having to do it individually for several hundred headstones. TNG v15; Template 8 Thanks much.

I finally had a smooth update into TNG 14, but like always, many of my images don't have thumbnails

I've regenerated the full database for thumbnails. I can still find many people that don't have thumbnails, even when they are .jpg's and are well under 600,000 kb. Any suggestions?

Please go to Ancestrees.com to see my problem. Underneath the photo of a statue of Pocahontas, I have entered 3 out of 4 highlighted ancestors, but I can't seem to get the picture for Charity Wright Cook to come in. I've saved the photo I want to use of her under charity.jpeg and charity wright.jpg. No matter which I try to bring up on Template 21, it gives me this error. Not Found The requested URL was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. This is the photo I want to bring in. I have photos under both names loaded in my media files online. I can attach them to her profile on her record easily but not to the template. Thanks so much for your assistance.
