  1. Hello, I'm new to this forum, so please excuse me if the answer to my question has been asked already. Here is my situation. Both my father-in-law and I have been running TNG for a number of years now as "separate" sites. I have a copy of his DB/tree running on my server. I'm looking for a way to link two DB/trees together, is this possible? I would like to be able run the "ancestors' chart so that it pulls from both databases. My Tree has ~1,000 entries and his ~12,000. ( I don't want to merge them at this time.) If it is possible link them, is there also way to create an "external link" to his site so that I don't have to import his DB to reflect any changes? Thanks, K
  2. I'm trying to install TNG 11.1.2 on a Synology DS414 NAS device. The PHP version is 5.6.31 and the database engine is MariaDB 10, which seems to be compatible with MySQL. The installation went smoothly, once I got the database credentials right. However, importing a GEDCOM file consistently quits at about 1100 records. I've tried all the suggestions given on the TNG Import page. Earlier, I tried to load TNG and my data onto my powweb.com account, but the GEDCOM import exceeded the "max_questions" MySql configuration parameter (currently 75,000) because the file size is 18MB. They wanted $80.00 to raise the "max_questions" php.ini parameter to 150,000, so I decided to try loading on the NAS since there's no guarantee 150,000 would be enough. Most likely the import is failing because I'm exceeding some parameter in MariaDB, but I can't see what it might be, and it doesn't have a "max_questions" option. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  3. I want to make a gedcom file to download. It's easy, but the result is in txt format?? How may I import it as a gedcom to my local program?

    Adding Gedcom to Tree

I have my family tree and all is working, Now I have a new Gedcom file that is for my Grandmothers, Fathers family tree. I have both as separate trees in my install. I'd like to make the link so that when I search my Family Tree (Harvey's) and I get to my Grandmother, I can also have her fathers family show up in the Harvey Family Tree. How would I go about this. I tried adding the Densmore Gedcom file to the Harvey Tree, and I've made Great Grand father Densmore my grandmothers father, but none of the rest of the densmore family was added in, just the great grand father? I'm fairly new to TNG, but not the web or databases. Cheers Mike
  5. For those using the Burial Website Media Import Mod, Find A Grave has recently changed the format of its URL that points to memorials. For the moment, it seems they are still forwarding URLs in the old format. However, if you start entering records with the new URL, you need to make the following change in your customconfig.php $BWMI_mod['web']['FAG']['match_url'] = "[?&]GRid=|/memorial/"; If you want to have your URLs in the new format, you will need to also add the following change in your customconfig.php $BWMI_mod['web']['FAG']['url'] = "https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/%s"; Now if you don't delete the old entries, when you change to the new URL above, you will see both old and new media entries in TNG. New ones don't overwrite the old ones with different URLs. This is unavoidable, since there is not a good way to tell if the media is a good one or not. Some folks actually like to point other Find A Grave links of other individuals under the person too. e.g., spouses. So I recommend deleting all your old entries first. The quickest way I've found to remove a bunch of Find A Grave links is to: Go into administration select Media on the left under "Collection" select "Find A Grave" make sure all the other fields are blank click search click "Select All" click "Delete Selected" repeat 6-7 as many times as needed until all are removed. Rerun Burial Website Media Import, to add all the Media entries using the new URL I know it is a pain. But it really only needs to be done once, anytime a website completely changes their URL structure. And if you do have other links there (i.e., spouses), then you need to make sure you uncheck any that you want to keep and edit by hand (or go through them one at a time.) At some point in the future I will update the Mod version with these changes.
  6. I want to find out if there’s a connection between the Mays and Caldwell families in my database. Is there an easy way to determine that? Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
  7. I have released Simple SEO versions 10.1.0.5 (TNG 10.1.0+), 11.0.0.5 (TNG 11.0+), 11.1.0.5 (TNG 11.1), and 11.1.1.5 (TNG 11.1.1+) This release corrects a pretty serious privacy issue with living persons names being inappropriately displayed on the Family Group banner. It also adds internationalization support for Dutch, Czech, and Polish, and has been tested for TNG release 11.1.2. This version is recommended for all Simple SEO users. This will be the last release of Simple SEO for TNG release 10.1. Please see the Simple SEO Wiki page for additional information. Bill Herndon Lindell-Herndon Genealogy

    site will not allow access

Hope someone can help ... willingmyre.org v10 site is hosted by "simplyhosting" Twice now I have been adding records and when I try to save an entry associated with a "new item" the site hangs up and the new item will not save and I can no longer access the site . I filed a request with simplyhosting" to fix the problem. Simplyhosting must have fixed the first problem since a couple days later the site was up and running. But when I tried again this morning to add a "new item" to a record the site hung up again. Anyone have this problem before? Any advice to fix it? GTW
  9. When I import a GEDCOM (exported from FTM 2017) into TNG ( v. 11.0.2), I have a large number of persons marked as living with the death date present. I do not understand why TNG marks these people living. There is no "LIVING" tag in the GEDCOM 5.5 standard so this appears to be something that TNG is interpreting during import. It appears that many of the people marked as living have a null CHR (christening) tag without a date or place in the GEDCOM. Deleting the empty christening fact in FTM displays the deceased person. Unfortunately I have thousands of these entries in my FTM database and no easy way to clean it up. Is there a work around to fix this problem? Here is an example http://www.trippgenealogy.org/tng/getperson.php?personID=I58157&tree=Master In this example, 7 of the 14 children are reported as living although all were born before 1860.
  10. When I import my GEDCOM file with null CHR (christening) tags, TNG displays individuals as "living"' despite having having a death date. My workaround is to delete the null christening fact in FTM 2017 before writing out the GEDCOM. I can also toggle off the "living" button in TNG although I prefer to make only changes in the FTM database. My problem is what to do about the 7,000 or so null entries in my FTM database. This looks like bug that should be reported but I wonder if anyone has a better workaround. My FTM database is a legacy from several cousins so I have no idea how or why all the null entries. Here is a typical problem entry: 0 @I3719@ INDI 1 NAME Jennie Sarah /Tripp/ 1 SEX F 1 BIRT 2 DATE 10 DEC 1862 1 CHR 1 REFN P3719 1 DEAT 2 DATE 30 APR 1911 1 FAMS @F5070@ 1 FAMC @F1092@ The tag is missing the level 2 date and place tags, something like this: 1 CHR 2 DATE 20 DEC 1862 2 PLAC Napier, Boone, Iowa, USA
  11. Please Help! I am running TNG v 10.1.3 and just upgraded from reCaptcha v8.2.2 to No Captcha v 10.1.0.3. My site is set up to require registration. Have modified the new account form slightly to allow some more fields to be required. Everything was working fine until I upgraded to No Captcha. With the update I do get the Captcha image and checkbox to appear. After checking the box everything seems fine until I hit continue and nothing happens. For some reason my form is not being found. Any suggestions?
  12. There is a long thread on this subject started nearly 14 years ago and I was in two minds whether i should start a new one, but as technology has changed in that time and several of the provided links no longer work, I thought it a good idea. Also the last comment on that thread was about 9 months ago. Presumably someone will move this comment to that one, if that is the preferred way to go. Firstly, this is completely new territory for me and totally outside my comfort zone but what the hell, I'm a young 67 and keen to learn! So I want to set up a stand alone copy of my site, so I can 'experiment a little with it, without it affecting my online site and then eventually copy it all across. And play around with this Wordpress thingy. I have successfully downloaded WAMPserver version 3.1.0 - 64 bit latest version and following the guidance notes written by Royce Tivel, which someone kindly provided the link to, earlier in the other thread. I have updated and installed all the redistributable VC packages to make it work and it turns green in the systems tray, as it should. But I am now confused and I wonder whether I am trying to solve problems that might have existed in earlier versions (and when the guidance notes were written) but don't now, such that some of the instruction is irrelevant. For example: there is an instruction to create database tables within the phpadmin database and the instruction is to import the "create_tables.sql" files located at: C:\wamp\apps\phpmyadmin-3.5.3-english\examples\create_tables.sql My version of php is actually 4.7.4 so substituting that for 3.5.3 is my logic but within that folder there is no folder called, 'english'. There is one called, 'examples' but in there, there is nothing called, 'create_tables.sql.' So is this something that is not now necessary to do? Is the file located somewhere else? or indeed, having got Wamp up and running, with no error messages, can I simply copy and paste my online site (SimplyHosting) into Wamp via Filezilla without further ado? If yes, it would be helpful to know what to copy and to where. I hope that is all intelligible to someone. I'm on version 10 of TNG

    Yet another PHP anomaly?

I run my website in three environments each using different versions of PHP (5.4; 5.6; 7.0.10) Each environment runs without issue except for this one irritation. In the root of my ISP's server I find a PHP generated error log. I examine it intermittently and usually just delete it. I do know that this has been happening on and off for at least TWO years. However, the one line warning message is always the same. It comes from a file which is part of TNG itself and which I have not interfered with. I don't even know what action within TNG is actually generating the error. Given all the talk (and threats of dire consequences about upgrades to PHP 7.2 and beyond) can anyone explain this issue and also how to correct it. Since April this year, this error has been generated 58 times. Since the beginning of this month, this is how it looks (4 lines) [02-Oct-2017 13:04:29 UTC] PHP Warning: imagejpeg() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/alancrax/public_html/genealogy/ajx_smallimage.php on line 46 [06-Oct-2017 02:12:36 UTC] PHP Warning: imagejpeg() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/alancrax/public_html/genealogy/ajx_smallimage.php on line 46 [06-Oct-2017 02:12:37 UTC] PHP Warning: imagejpeg() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/alancrax/public_html/genealogy/ajx_smallimage.php on line 46 [07-Oct-2017 05:17:48 UTC] PHP Warning: imagejpeg() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/alancrax/public_html/genealogy/ajx_smallimage.php on line 46 The relevant lines in ajx_smallimage.php are: // Resample $image_resized = @imagecreatetruecolor($photowtouse, $photohtouse); @imagecopyresampled($image_resized, $image, 0, 0, 0, 0, $photowtouse, $photohtouse, $photoinfo[0], $photoinfo[1]); // Display resized image imagejpeg($image_resized); ?> Alan

  17. I have given some of my users editor rolls and limited other to guest. I've upgraded my desktop to FTM 2017 to sync with Ancestry. However, since it doesn't sync with TNG, I need to stop editors from making changes and give everyone the ability to suggest changes. In other words, change all of my non-admin roles to Submitter. That way, I can get the suggestions, make changes in FTM and then update the online tree as necessary. I've only got about 50 users so if necessary I can change each one manually, but was wondering if there is a built in way to change them all at once.

    Lazarus Guestbook Setup Problem

I setup the Lararus Guestbook on template 12 according to the Lazarus Guest Book Installation on TNG Wiki. Everything went fine except for one problem. When you click on Sign The Guestbook the menu hops out of the TNG Menu. You need to enter it again outside of TNG before you can add a guestbook entry. Any ideas?
