Hello, I have problems with the display of characters in French. Following a request for help, I received this answer from Mr Lythgoe: « As for the accents, it sounds like you need to change the character set being used in TNG. When you get back in, go to Admin/Setup/General Settings/Language and choose "French-UTF8" as the language file and "UTF-8" as the character set. You may have to log out and back in again or clear your browser cookies before you notice the difference. » I adjusted these parameters and followed all the instructions, but I still have the same problems with characters. è, à, ê With a Imac, Safari, Firfox and IPAd, same problem. I'm hoping somebody can help with this problem. A person married. He and his wife had two children together. Then he had an "affair" with somebody else and had a child. Then he returned to his wife and they had a further two children. So child number 3 has a different mother than 1, 2, 4 and 5. How do I show all of this in the correct order in TNG? I have v.12.0.1 and everything works with the exception that on an iPad or iPhone the keyboard remains on the display after entering a name in the search box. Tested with Safari and Chrome with the same results. In addition, clicking on any link on the interface brings up the keyboard. Any ideas? Mobile settings attached.

on one of 4 sites using TNG v12 the mod manager page shows $extspath missing

I am testing changing TNG's personID from 'I' to 'P'. TNG is rebuilt from a gedcom exported from Family Historian totally with every update. '@I' is was changed to '@P' with a text editor in the gedcom before import to TNG. All appears to work OK except for calls to 'my page' , 'my bookmarks' still creating a url with the 'I' prefix in the variable 'mypersonID' . Somewhere that variable is still getting loading with the 'I', even though admin:setup:prefixes has been changed for Individual to 'P'. Any idea where to look for this? Wingrep shows numerous php files use the 'mypersonID' variable, but I don't see the prefix being loaded with the 'I'. The reason for changing the prefix is the 'I' is used on quite a few screens (and more so with the mods I've installed), and I utilize user-selectable fonts as well, so font changes to make the 'I' not look like the number '1' are a bigger challenge. UPDATE: The issue is resolved. I overlooked changing the prefix in the TNG users database . Now all works wonderfully.

Help required. Not being very competent with TNG I have v11.1 I have 50 users and decided to try and send a block email to them couple of tries didnt receive one myself and thought it was because they were all on a a specific tree and I was on All so i changed my access to the specific tree all were on and sent of course received the email. But now I cannot gain all the administrators function how do I change the access if I can not get into it. My apologies for my ignorance. the tree is http://www.the-twinns.co.uk Kind Regards Mike

Recently installed Male Female and Parent Lines MOD (v11.0.0.7 for TNG 11+ in TNG 12.0) and everything works fine except I can't get the Notable Descendants option to work. I have created the IMPO Special Events and added the IMPO event to persons as instructed, but nothing shows up (except the individual being searched) when the "Notable Descendants" link is clicked. Does this option work with TNG v 12.0?

If this has been addressed I can't find it and I apologize in advance. I have tried to determine if "media upload" would work but I'm not sure it will do what I am hoping. Maybe there is a built-in function already or perhaps a MOD of some sort but again, can't find - I want to add an link to my drop down lists (available only to registered users) that would allow them to upload ANY file (except the obvious extensions like .js, .exe, .htm, etc) and have that file land inside a "secure" folder on my server so that only I may retrieve it either on line or via my ftp client. I'm not looking for an interface to TNG, rather I want to allow someone who has a password (that I've already approved) to "click to upload" a file such as a photo, or a scan from a birth or death certificate, or even a small gedcom. I'd like to limit the size of the potential upload as well to maybe 15Mb or more if necessary. And it would even be nice to have a short form they could fill out telling me what it is they are uploading. I could make the form but don't want to reinvent the wheel if it's already been done by someone before me. It would be nice to have a success alert telling them their files have been successfully transferred as well. Anybody with any ideas? I'll take them I know there are third-party offerings such as Dropbox but I really don't want to use that unless I have to. Thanks Larry

Hi There, First can I say that I have been using TNG v9 since 2012 and I love it. 😃 Secondly I need to confess that I am completely out of my depth when it comes to talking about servers, php files, SQL etc and all that sort of thing, so please treat me gently and excuse the ignorance which I am bound to show. It is also the reason why I have never upgraded to later versions of TNG - I remember the confusion and difficulty i had setting up my website initially, but, after a few months it was up and running and for my simple needs works perfectly and still does. Finally, I should let you know that I don't get chance to do genealogy much these days, and it must be nearly 2 years since I updated the data on my website (although my desktop software (Family Historian 6.2) was last updated in Nov 2017. It is because I now want to update my website data that I have logged into my hosting server, and noticed what may or may not be a problem - hence this post as I am unsure what, if anything, I need to do. I think my problem might be related to chMod codes - which I understand are about file permissions. Having logged onto my hosting server, I have seen that some of the TNG software files in the main (root?) folder are highlighted in red - this is something that wasn't happening before. These files all have permission codes of 666. All of the other files have codes of 664; some folders have 755 and others 711, but these are not highlighted so presumably are ok. I have looked in some of the subfolders and the files in them seem to be ok, with the exception of the genback folder - every file in there is highlighted in red even though they have chmod codes of 664. In total there about 10 txt and php files in the main folder - eg adminlog.txt and config.php, and all the bak files - about 32 - in the genbak folder. The last time I logged onto the host server a couple of years ago, nothing was highlighted so something must have changed. Is anyone able to tell me whether I have a problem and if so what I need to do to fix it? (I am keeping my fingers crossed I don't have to re-install TNG) Thank you for your help, SharonM

After the upgrade to v12 my TNG won.t show the special Norwegian letters correct (Æ,æ Åå, Øø) - but only on the main page and the main title on other pages. TNG 12 and template 14. I've tried several changes, but nothing . . . . Any idea??? ENo

I added an event for the Social Security number. The number is under the details. No other information is entered. When I go to the person and display all, it does NOT show up. I have to edit the person to see the info. Is there a way to get other events to display?

Hello, Since v12, the modification date of the media except the custom collections is equal to the import date of the gedcom. Jean-Louis

I added Census under Media, however, I tried to add an icon by pointing to img/tng_doc.gif. The results of the save are TNG shows the icon file to be Array. How can I correct this?

Dear all! I run https:// swedenmark.eu and I have discovered a problemt in my source lines. I have one to many dots in the end of an source, please see the following likn - https://www.swedenmark.eu/getperson.php?personID=I30829&tree=swedenmark - Person Ove Vincentsen Lunge (Dyre) in the source there are two sources. Number 1. has one dot and number 2 has two dot. In number one I have not placed an dot in the end. Number two I have placed a dot in the end! I'm using TNG 11.1.2 and I will not update to 12 before I have solves this problem? I have tried to uninstall all my mods one by one in order to see if that caused the problem, but it is still there? When you select a person to display, the ages of all the family members are displayed except the individual. Is this a setting? If not, why does it not display the age?

I have more than one image linked to a person or family with one of them set to default. When I view the person or family, it only displays text saying how many photos there are. Why does it not display the default image and the number of images available?

I am just getting into heat maps and I have it working. Some data that is in my site has specific house numbers. I don't want to change what users entered. However, I don't want to have the location pin display the house number. There is an option for place level, but it does not appear do do anything. Is there a way to display a location based on place level Ex:City/Town ? Or does the address have to be changed because it can be viewed by other means anyway?

Okay, I find the the learning curve of TNG a bit hard for me. Most likely because I do not read very well. Or I should say I don't remember what I read. With that said I am trying to bring in a folder of gravestone pictures, jpg, from my pc to a folder on THG with the name gravestones in the media folder. I am having some email problems with some newly registered users because I have never received or notified from them via my AOL email. I noticed there were some newly registered users in my Users Category and I had to approve them for entering my web site each time. Something with the email settings? Thank you for your help.....

But there is some missing data: Method 3 - Using TNG’s internal system The instructions (wisely) suggest that we save a copy to our local computer. However, there is not an option (AFAIK) in the TNG(v.11.1.2) interface. But this section of the WIKI does not state WHERE the data is so that it can be saved offline. I searched in the files and the only place that I found was in the TNGUPS folder where there are some *.bak files but no information whether these will backup the entire system or not. Could someone who knows about this add a bit of guidance to this area of the WIKI? Even better, could the TNG interface include an option (with the Backup / Restore ) to SAVE to: location? Thanks. Hello, I'm having an odd issue when adding new "Places" to my TNG site. So, brand new install (maybe a month old), version 11.1.2. I try "Places" --> "Add New" Then I enter the "Place" and click "Show/hide clickable map" to get my Latitude and Longitude. I give it a "Place Level" (usually "Address"), then add some notes. Upon hitting "Save" I get a blank frame as seen in the attached screenshot. The place gets added, because it shows up after I click the "Places" link in the left menu. However, I'm wondering if something else might be wrong? I guess I'm expecting a confirmation that the place has been added... Are others getting this behavior when added a new "Place"? Update: I'm using version 11.1.2 I'm receiving the following error whilst trying to "Add New Event" (see screenshots): Here are the steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new Event for a Person: Click "People" --> click on a person ID --> under "Other Events" --> "Add New" 2. Select an "Event Type" 3. Add an "Event Date" 4. Add an "Event Place" by selecting the event place with the magnifying glass icon 5. Add "Detail" or not, either placing text in the "Event Detail", or leaving it blank, error still occurs 6. Click "Save" 7. Nothing happens, the pop-up window will not disappear, and the event will not gets created - using the developer console for the browser (F12) I was able to see the underlying error as posted in screenshots above.
