  1. Hello, I must preface this by stating that I have zero knowledge or understanding of anything I'm about to write (therein lies the problem!). I have done a fair bit of searching online, but I've not managed to find anything I can actually understand. It may seem at odds with the idea of a family history website but, for a variety of reasons, I would like to use TNG locally - for the foreseeable future, at least. The thought being that one day I will have a site worth making public, at which point I will look into web-hosting options, but that's a far-off goal and until then I should like to just be able to faff about with it offline as and when I am able to. Following advice and some further reading, I have installed Laragon for this purpose (I use Windows 10, albeit it on an old and decrepit machine). And now I am stuck. I am reasonably sure that I would like to do the whole integrating-TNG-with-Wordpress thing (the Kloosterman method, rather than the plugin). By any chance, does there exist a 'how-to' guide for doing this with Laragon? Or would anybody be able to provide basic instructions, please? I'm hoping that's not too big an ask, but I really am clueless so can only apologise if it is. Many thanks in advance =]
  2. Hi folks, I am migrating to online hosting but in preparation I'm sandboxing here on my local server. I began trying to integrate tng-wp using the suggested links of the tng site. I tried numerous times until I finally understood what was going. I tried using the tng plugin method listed and followed the directions and when I got to the setup of the tng plugin in wordpress there was an error at the bottom of the page, happened everytime I blew the installation away and began again. So I gave that up and tried the non wp plugin method. This seemed to be the easier method but after installing I found that no matter how many times I tried to get a new page in a menu to come up, I received a "not found" message. Fought this several days looking at posts on how the permalinks worked etc and the effect of .htaccess, and came to the conclusion that once I changed permalinks on the site trying to d the wp plugin method I blew up my install. Ive copled suggested .htaccess files and still broken links, changed permissions and ownership, still broken links. Changed permalinks from one to another, saved them and still broken. My head is spinning from it and I feel that there must be something in my httpd.conf that is causing issues with redirects. I see pretty permalinks on my pages it seems even when I change which one I use in the permalink option of wp. I feel like I've run a marathon trying to find solutions and I've fallen in to a rabbit hole. Has anyone run into the kind of weirdness also? Think Ill just go and work on my 63 Dodge Dart convertible, at least its solid and not so ethereal. Cheers yall. John
  3. Hi folks, I am migrating my tng site to a web hosting site and can only use one database it appears. I have wordpress/tng working in one site but find that this is using a database which is not up to date. My live TNG site uses an unique wordpress database and an unique tng database. The problem I am trying to solve is to use the wordpress setup from my old server setup and my newer tng database by migrating the wordpress site to the new host and then adding tng to the website and then merge to two databases into one. So question, is it possible to merge the tng database into the existing wordpress database? Sorry but rereading this makes my head hurt. Too many things on my plate right now, getting my offgrid house up in the Cascade mountains on the market up, getting my 1963 Dodge Dart convertible running without overheating, and then migrating to the new host. Thanks and Cheers! john

    TNG and Wordpress integrated

Hi I have made my family website as an integration between TNG and Wordpress. I use TNG for the family-tree and Wordpress for all the stories. All stories in WordPress are linked to the mentioned people in TNG and in TNG - when looking at a person (or familiy) you can see (and link to) stories in WordPress. All maintained by programming. The reasons I have made it this way is: 1) Compared to the possibilities in Wordpress the media-section in TNG, I think TNG has too few options 2) I am not the only one maintaining the website. It has been essential to me that my co-editors should not distinguish between frontend and backend. So with some MOD's and a control via menus, they can maintain family tree and stories from frontend Feel free to check the website: www.surlykkerne.dk (It's in Danish ) /Laurids
  5. I did follow the steps as mentioned in this guide. I have 2 sub folders: I have the following diagnostics: see image attached: Aantekening 2020-08-30 200509.png I followed all the steps and when I open the adress https://www.paulvanachterberg.nl/genealogie/ it leaves all blank. I also added the TNG pugin options. See the image TNG Plugin options. I also added Site Design and Definition. See the image Desing and setting. Any ideas what I might have missed?

    Event Map Layout issue

I am using TNG 13 and wordpress with the official wordpress/tng plugin. I am having an issue where the pins and even the Event Map label on the left are being put half way down, not at the top. I have tried all kinds of edits to make it show correctly but can not determine what is causing this. If I load the page directly everything is showing correctly, and if I choose a generic WP theme it shows correctly. Everything else on this wp theme shows correctly just having this issue on the getperson of an individual. You can see in the attachment how it is displaying.
  7. I recently added SSL to my Wordpress site. I have TNG running under the site. I used the Kloosterman method for TNG integration. Everything is working except the import. When I try to import a gedcom file it just hangs, so I know that I need to change something, but I don't know what. Any help would be appreciated. Kathie
  8. Hi, I’ve WP.4.2 and TNG 12.3 installed and use the WP-Plugin TNG WordPress Integration for Integration. I followed the instruction given in the wiki. My homepage is https://kuhnert.ch/ and with https://kuhnert.ch/stammbaum/ we see the TNG page, but there is no link working. What is wrong? Thanks, Klaus
  9. I already have my TNG site up and running. It's a project in progress ( https://thethomasshephardfamilytree.co.uk/ ) . What I want to do is incorporate it with WordPress. I was wondering if anybody has done a video tutorial on this or know of any that are available. I have searched Youtube and the internet but cannot find any. Any help will be very much appreciated. Many Thanks Thomsi
  10. Hi, I have been working with a local version of TNG and WP to set it up with the TNG Wordpress Plugin. All seems to work fine in the local version, but if I try to do the same in the online version the TNG header shows up expanded vertical under Wordpress, like this: ../wp/genealogy The local version looks normal like this: ../wp/genealogy I dont know why this is happening or what is triggering it and more important how to fix it. To make it more confusing so will the same index.php thats used for this show up normal if addressed directly: ../tng/index.php Any tip or idea of how to solve this will be much appreciated Regards Jastro
  11. I'm trying to integrate the TNG with Wordpress but that does not succeed. 12. I am integrating my family history site with WP so that I can blog and share more images and be more creative with the website design. I installed WP, I purchased the theme that was recommended - Avada, and I set up the root folder as directed and set up the topmenu, footer and meta as instructed but I think I must have done something wrong. Perhaps I didn't understand what a "sub-root folder" is and I put the TNG stuff in the wrong place in my C-Panel? I no longer have access to the backend of TNG, i.e. when I click on the link that used to take me to the backend of TNG I am sent to the WP Dashboard and so I can't complete Steps 4 and 5 of the tutorial. I don't seem to have any control over the site, it seems that when you pull the site up anyone could go in and edit it at this point. Right now there's been no design done so it's not an issue, but I'd like to figure out what I did now and fix it, find the TNG ancestor stuff, and lock the site down so the back end isn't accessible. The website is: https://grandmothersgrandfathers.com/ And I'm attaching a screenshot of my c-panel and root menu as it sits now. Thanks so much if anyone can help. Liz

    Help Needed

Looking for someone to help with site update and various other issues. Priority being version update I have not been active on my site for a long while but left it up and just recently looked at it and was startled at all my issues I seem to have. I could not get back into the TNG forum as I forgot my password so I contacted Darrin Lythgoe for a place to start. He said the first thing I need to do is update my version first as I am running a VERY old version (8.3.1) and obtain an API key from Google maps In the past, I used a Wild-Type design to get my site up and running and complete all the customization but she is no longer available. I simply do not have the skills needed beyond small stuff. I also noticed that my site is not showing as secure. I have contacted my web host (Simply Hosting) and was told that my site i"s using a valid SSL certificate. But, not showing green padlock due to the presence of mixed content" I appreciate any assistance as I have a mess on my hands. Sharon Randall email: srandall54@att.net website: generationsgoneby.com
  14. I'm trying to understand how to write URL/URI links in TNG addons like the Family Group Worksheet to keep them compatible with WordPress and other CMS integrations. My scripts sometimes fail on WordPress sites and I'm pretty sure it's because links to other pages are not working correctly. I've already scoured the Internet with no joy, but I suspect all the real expertise is right here. Using the TNG function getURL() is not ideal, since my scripts often work from a TNG sub directory, where I need to define cms['tngpath'] to access TNG libraries, but works against my own scripts which are relative to the working directory of the addon, not the TNG root. So what does the CMS need? Could anyone with an integration like WordPress using the TNGcms class share a copy of that script with me to help me understand the internals? Any other guidance on this issue, such as which links are affected (only menus?) and which are not, would be most helpful. Thanks.

Once again: No header no footer /WP/TNG)

Sorry, but I can't solve the problem with the Kloosterman method - this old problem. I use: WP 5.3, (Theme: Spacious); TNG 12.02, PHP 7.3: TNG is placed a subfolder of WP called "Datenbank". WP is working fine, TNG is working fine. When I opened TNG in the WP-menue I see the "search-form" (correct) but no header or no footer. Instead there a two lines with an error for the header: Warning: include(wptng-topmenu.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /kunden/222818_70794/rp-hosting/8704/9704/typo3cms/combi/wp/datenbank/genlib.php on line 172Warning: include(): Failed opening 'wptng-topmenu.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /kunden/222818_70794/rp-hosting/8704/9704/typo3cms/combi/wp/datenbank/genlib.php on line 172 and for the footer: Warning: include(wptng-footer.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /kunden/222818_70794/rp-hosting/8704/9704/typo3cms/combi/wp/datenbank/genlib.php on line 234Warning: include(): Failed opening 'wptng-footer.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /kunden/222818_70794/rp-hosting/8704/9704/typo3cms/combi/wp/datenbank/genlib.php on line 234 The Wptng files are correct, no space or something else, like the instructions. The TNG template has the chanced header, footer and meta entries. The TNG config.php: $rootpath = "/kunden/222818_70794/rp-hosting/8704/9704/typo3cms/combi/wp/datenbank/"; $templatenum = ""; $templateswitching = "0"; $homepage = "http://www.combi.xn--ortssippenbcher-9vb.org/wp/"; $tngdomain = "http://www.combi.xn--ortssippenbcher-9vb.org/wp/datenbank/"; I changed homepage entry, but no success. (cache deleted every time) What is going wrong? Please do not write too specific in php-language. Thanks so lot. Jochen

    mytngstyle.css modification

I am trying to run TNG hooked to Wordpress with the plugin. I understand that I can't use TNG templates and that I need to modify the mytngstyle.css file. With no modification the TNG page just looks like what is shown below. The WIKI says "The mytngstyle.css overrides the TNG following TNG style sheets: genstyle.css the default TNG style sheet when you do not select a template templatestyle.css the template override style sheet tngtabs1.css tngtabs2.css" My problem is that I have no experience with css files and don't know where to start modifying the mytngstyle.css file. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jim Stevens Home Page Welcome, Administrator. Default language - multilingual website

I currently have a website for our association that is bilingual (french and english). All of my pages, blogs, menus etc are in both languages. In my main menu at the top of the screen, I have a language switcher with the option French or English. If the user is on a french page and uses the Language Switcher to English, the whole website changes to English (Main menu, footer, page content). I am in the process of integrating TNG on my website using the Kloosterman method. I have not yet published the page to the public but the integration is working perfectly and uses my web page designs. The only issue is the language that TNG will present the screens in. I have set up both French and English on my TNG setup, but is there a way that when you go to the TNG page, it would automatically open on the language that was already chosen by the user with the Language Switcher on the main menu. Ex: If the user is on any page in French, when he clicks on my link to go to the TNG page, it would automatically open in French and if he uses the Language switcher to change to English, it would refresh automatically like the rest of the pages. Thanks

    Multi-lingual Website

I have a bilingual wordpress (French and English) site where I have incorporated my genealogy using TNG. Is there a configuration where if the user is on my TNG pages and change the language from French to English on my main menu, it will automatically switch to the English version of TNG? Currently, if I leave the TNG setting where users can change languages, it does not update the whole site, but only the TNG settings.

WordPress Login Plugin that works with TNG

I was able to successfully get the WP TNG Plugin to work with my website AchillConnection.com. Love it! Currently visitors can go to achillconnection.com with out logging in, however they do need to register / login to access TNG. Which plugin do you suggest to use so that folks need to login to access AchillConnection.com and seamlessly login to TNG? Thanks- Matthew
  22. I'm using TNG v 12.0.2 and I update my 'tree' offline, into Family Historian and upload a new gedcom as and when necessary. I was just looking at my TNG online and one aunt in my tree appeared fine until I looked at the timeline for her. Her details are Phyllis Florence THOMPSON, nee PARKER (1925-2013). This is recorded correctly everywhere but in the timeline, where at the bottom, it gives her name as Phyllis Florence FORKNALL (nee PARKER), instead of the correct Phyllis Florence THOMPSON (nee PARKER). I only have two FORKNALL's in my tree, one of whom is a first cousin twice removed of the wife of her brother, Edward Parker LLOYD, so no direct relationship at all. I attach a section of the timeline and also the Family Historian relationship. Can anyone give me any indication as to how TNG may be picking this up and changing her married name? Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I couldn't trace it
  23. Hello dear community! I am still new here, however I have already been able to look at many hints. I build my website with Wordpress (AVADA) based on the principle of Cees Klostermann. What I like about TNG's pre-made template 12 is the "surname cloud (Top 100 Surnames in familiytree). I would like to install (or link) this on the homepage (site HOME) of the website with an element of the Fusuion Site Builder. I've been quite worried about that ... but I can not find a way. Is that even possible or does anyone have an idea? Or are there other alternatives of such a representation? I really do not want to use the tag cloud as a widget. An interface with adoption from the surnames of the ancestors would be my idea. Thanks in advance! Tom

    TNG v12 with WordPress

Hello, I hope this is the most appropriate forum for this topic: I ran a live site for a year using v11 and used templates with some mods installled. As great as the templates are, none of had the feel I was seeking. They also did not allow for the customization I was looking for either. I have taken my live site down for now while I design the site I want present to my users and that delivers the experience I want them to have. It seems like WordPress is my best option -- however I am a little confused as which way to go https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Category:WordPress I sort of like something like this http://lisaandroger.com/genealogy/ I might want a side menu -- but that may cause other issues ... Can someone also tell me what changes WordPress (or other options) I might want to consider for v12? Also some more sites that have used WordPress and/or other things to be aware of -- I would appreciate it. [Edit] I should add that I do not want to maintain two user accounts in order to have access to restricted info -- so I could keep the Wordpress (HomePage ) open and then require logon for TNG records etc. (similar to what I had in the original site)
