Recently I've been getting a lot of visits from: When I use Whois IP the following information is given: It looks like Alibaba is visiting my website. I tried blocking the mentioned IP range in .htaccess but so far without succes. My .htaccess looks like this. Also using the Bot-Trap mod and RIP prevention mod. Any ideas on the cause, what I'm doing wrong and/or how to block Alibaba from accessing my site?

I would like for users to be presented a different page after logging into the site. Right now, the only things that change upon successful login is the Main Menu bar. The page itself is still the front page (Home Page) which has verbiage to register.. All family members are welcome to use the site by logging in above. Don't have a login? Register for New User Account I think the best solution is to redirect to a different page upon successful login, which will probably be a mirror of the Home page without the above verbiage, or maybe redirect to What's New. I suspect that this is simple and I just am missing it somewhere.

Hi Fellow TNG members, There is a research link mod and a research tools mod available for TNG users. We all do our research and somehow document what we researched when and where (or maybe some do not) TNG has the possibility to add these research notes to the different notes fields and hide them if needed. What I'm looking for is a something different. I'm looking for a research log mod. The intention is that on the persons page an extra tab is made available (just before the edit tab) with the name Research Log The content can be a simple text field that allows us to enter research done and research to do items but it could also be a table. It should be able to handle dates, hyperlinks and text formatting. That way like we have an overview of all research done & to do related to that specific person. The new Research tab should only be available to Admin accounts. Hope someone can find the time to create something like this if there is enough "need" for this in the community.

I have had a TNG site since circa 2009 - www.zausmerforest.com. I have always kept the site private in every sense that I can think of - using the three methods listed below. Now I would like to soften the privacy just a little, but am unsure which method/rule to change and how. 1) - The site requires a log-in, and I will not change this requirement. 2) - I have a robots.txt file that includes the following text User-agent: * Disallow: / I understand that this guides "bots" and crawlers not to index my site (thanks to Ken Roy for explaining this), which means that pages behind the home page may remain hidden. 3) - I also have an .htaccess file that includes: Options All -Indexes I understand that stops the bad bots that might otherwise not follow the "disallow" provided in the robots.txt file. Until now, these methods have worked to keep the site very private. Even entering site:zausmerforest.com into Google gives only the info provided in the image below. How can I soften the privacy such that: a) Google and other Search engines will show the home page information? b) And if possible (but I think it won't be), is there a way to achieve search engines showing my home page in the results when an internet user searches for someone whose name is contained anywhere in my site, but without indexing the site? I don't want search engines/bots/crawlers sharing or displaying any page or media or family information that is not shown on the home page. I don't know that I fully understand the concepts of "indexing" and being able to "search" or "share" a site, so I hope this makes sense. Thank you.

Hi all, My genealogy website is private and for now I want to keep it that way. I'm trying to prevent robots/crawlers etc from indexing, following and using my data. In order to achieve that I was thinking of modifying my .htaccess file by adding the followig: <FilesMatch ".(docx|pdf|png|jpeg|jpg|gif|mp4)$"> Header add X-robots-tag "noindex, nofollow, noimageindex, noarchive, nocache, notranslate, nosnippet, noyaca" </FilesMatch> Is this the correct way to do it? Do I still need to adjust my robots.txt / tngrobots.txt file too? I suppose that if the robots.txt / tngrobots.txt are set to follow and index this is blocked by the .htaccess settings or am I wrong? Is it still usefull to adjust my genlib.php with: <meta name="robots" content="noindex,nofollow" /> or a slightly different code? I'm also using rel=”noopener noreferrer nofollow” in my hyperlinks <a rel=”noopener noreferrer nofollow” href=”https://www.example.nl/” >Example</a> in cases where I need to link, but don’t want to be associated with the link target. I have read the articles in Security too and that's why I was looking into this. I know these are a lot of questions but hopefully relevant to other users too. Good morning fellow TNG users. I just did a fresh full install of TNG v. 14.02 and while importing media, I see there is Nno Generate Thumbnails option in admin -> media -> thumbnails. What's the deal with that? Anyone else run into this?

First post. After searching the forum not finding an answer I am still looking for a solution. I imported from gedcom. Individuals started from I0000 and go up to I00276 (or something). Now I added a new individual (not too many yet) and found out that I now have an individual I0001 and I1; I0002 and I2 (up to I15 or something). Syntactically, I1 and I0001 differ. Semantically they are the same. What is the best way to solve this? Renumber the whole database? Write my own SQL? Resquence ID's in the utilities menu did not solve anything.

I updated my TNG from V12.x to V14.x because my domain hosting went from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.0 and above. I have followed the update manual carefully, but now when I click on my administrator page (admin.php) the page remains white and there is nothing to read or to click. My homepage itself seems to display all the information correctly. What is going wrong here, what have I done wrong and what needs to be done to solve this problem?

Hello all.I'm having an issue when adding/create.. children to a family. What's happening is I'll create a new person under Children, fill in the details and save. The person gets saved in the database and is showing under Children of the family. When I click on Save + Stay, this person no longer shows under Children. When I go to that Person in Admin, the person is there, but the family is undefined as in the screenshot. Sometimes it saves correctly but most of the time now it doesn't. It's becoming a real pain since I have a ton of new people and families to add to the database. This is on my main site. If you need an admin login I will pm you. Well, it seems I can't add a user to my site either. I enter all the required info, click on save and the user does not get created. WTF is going on here? I'm fixing to just scrap everything and start over since I can't get anything done in TNG anymore....

Does anyone have experience on using these 2 roles? I am being overloaded with adding new content and editing (Describing) existing media. I have resisted adding a second person because people I have considered have NO programming experience and I am worried they will try out "stuff" and breal my website. I welcome comments. I an using v. 13.0.3 I haven't added a user in probably a year. But need to add one now. The problem is - when I click on "edit" button next to the new user the page opens with an existing users information and my admin login info. I haven't tried anything yet for fear of losing the NEW users info. I have multiple trees on my website, with different family lines in each tree. I need to move one individual from the "first" tree to another tree, the "second" tree, with all attached ancestor and descendant records from the "first" tree. Other than printing out the record(s) from the "first" tree and retyping them into the "second" tree, and then deleting the records from the "first" tree, is there a way to move them using TNG admin commands? I recently upgraded our site from v11.1.2 to v14 and everything appears to be working well apart from the import/export function. When I try to upload a Gedcom file I just get the spinner which goes on for ever, but when I try to download a file I get the attached error and clicking the “resume” link leads to a similar error. I tried going through the database structure part of the upgrade again, via the readme file, but this doesn’t alter the error. The situation is also confused by my webhost recently upgrading the SQL database from MariaDB 10.3 to MariaDB 10.6 and I don’t know if this is affecting the import/export function. I'm trying to create a report using the sql statement field in the report builder but no matter what I do it keeps generating a "FORBIDDEN You don't have permission to access to this resource." If the report is created by using the field selectors in the report builder all works just fine. The sql statement below is copied from the executed report created using the field selectors in the report builder. Hi everyone, I noticed that whenever I click the “Return to Mod Manager” button (from within the options of a mod) it results in a 404 (The requested URL was not found on this server.) The cause is a missing forwardslash in the url. Part of the url says: Severijnsadmin_modhandler.php Which should be Severijns/admin_modhandler.php Anyone else noticed this? Where can I repair this? I discovered that I am unable to load the Import/Export (admin_dataimport.php) from the admin menu. All I get is a blank page. My provider (dreamhost) has recently updated PHP from v7.4 (I think) to v8.1. At the time, I was running TNG v. 13. I have updated TNG to v. 14.0.1 thinking that 13 was incompatible with PHP v8.1 in some way. It seems everything is working fine after the upgrade, but the dataimport page still does not load. I tried some more things and found that admin_diagnostics.php also does not load. I'm not sure where the problem lies or if there are other undiscovered problems. I'm not too conversant in the back end stuff because I don't use it that often. I use Firefox, but have tried this from Chrome to no effect. Any ideas or a point in the right direction would be appreciated. https://quiettoad.net/genealogy

While in ADMIN an while opening a file in the Parser table it is not possible to scroll all the way down (See screenshot) therefor the button at the bottom of the screen is barely accessable. Anyone else experiencing this too? If so I will report this to Darrin.

Is it possible to remove the menu item "Public Home" from the top menu of the admin home page? In which file can I find the definition of the links from this menu?

Just upgraded to v14. I'm in as Administrator-No-user-yet. Data are accessible but can't create a new user. This page isn't working at the moment francisfranck.com can't currently handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500

Hi Everyone, I have a large number of media that has that appear the same fashion as in the screenshot. Do I : 1.need to delete the one without links (most likely)? or 2. merge them together? In the attachment, you can see, one has a .jpg extension, the other doesn't. Its tricky if the media links need the dup that has the .jpg extension? Not sure.... is why I ask, As well I dont know if there is a mod or feature or way to merge in the admin media panel. Thanks for any thoughts, Jeff

I've been using TNG version 13 (Template 19) for several months now with no problem, but suddenly I haven't been able to login as administrator (the only account for the site). The only way I can login to make changes now is to go into my php admin on my hosting panel and delete my TNG admin account. When I try to re-create a TNG admin account, I receive the message that the account is activated and it shows up in my php admin module on my host but the login doesn't work. The only recent changes I've made are installation of the Custom Hook Menu Mod and having my host turn on SSL, and the site worked well after both of these changes. UPDATE: The Help page for the Media>Thumbnails tab tells me that the GD extension for PHP is required. It had been working for the past year and a half, so something has gone off. My server includes a WordPress component which includes a photo plugin. That plugin gave me an error message that it requires the GD extension for PHP as well. Not sure what has happened but I am trying to fixed that GD extension, and hopefully that will solve this issue. Original Post I am running TNG ver. 13.1.1 on a raspberry Pi (Model 3B+; Buster OS version). Once or twice every month I upload a refreshed Gedcom along with new media. The last such update before today was Decemeber 13. Today I added a couple hundred new people and a batch of new media. The Gedcom import went fine, but when I went to the Media>Thumbnails tab to create thumbnails for the latest documents, I found he Generate button is missing from the tab. The media is there, but ALL media Thumbnails seem to have disappeared from the people records! Anyone have any thoughts as to what is happening here? Thanks, David T

In all versions Administration -> Miscellaneous -> Data Validation -> Wrong Gender will flag same sex couples. Any suggestions on how to get around this? Thanks

Hi All, I have recently begun working with the administrators of the Towne Family Association (TFA) website, found at "townefolk.com" and am looking to figure out why there are no headings on certain links from the Home Page. Specifically, the TFA uses Template 4. The TFA heading (Name of the Assocation on the left and Blue Logo on the right) appears on the Home Page as well as all linked pages from the left side, red column, except for the "Privacy Policy" link. That is the first page I would like to fix. Additionally, any other links outside the left side red menu, such as "About TFA", "Who is Who in TFA", "Membership", "Books and Resources", etc. all show a broken link in the upper left corner of the header and no Blue Logo on the right. I attempted to correct this through the Template Settings, however, have had no success. Is there someone out there who has run into this situation, and if so, could you please assist me in correcting it? Thanks in advance for any help provided! Kyle Wood

Using Firefox browser with upgrade to TNG 13.1.2 with Template 7. The Collapse Admin panel arrow only collapses when on Main Admin screen admin.php. For any other selection eg Setup etc, the panel does not collapse. In addition, if on Setup, General Settings, none of the expand arrows work. Other browsers work as expected. I have not found a Firefox setting that might be causing this. Any ideas?
