    Modify "His/Her side" section

Hi, brand new user here. I have several questions but I'll start with; How can I modify the "his/her side" section? I'd like to add a third or fourth section but not a url link as exists in some of the templates, but rather another "his/her side" link as it appears in the template settings section now. In other words, rather than a "his/her" link (two options), I want three brothers to link to - three options. I'm currently trying to modify Template 9. -Mike
  2. Hi all; I had posted this in another, older, thread but decided perhaps it should be here. Forgive me for any duplication. I'm still struggling to get the Simile Timeline to work properly. I've made the changes referenced earlier in this thread, in terms of changes to the history_html file, and by installing the revised Timeline by SKDavis. I much appreciate all the help. Here are the errors that are showing on the page. Can anyone help me with these errors, or point me to things to read or learn that might help me? simile-ajax-bundle.js:1541 TypeError: Cannot read property 'documentElement' of null "XmlHttp: Error handling onReadyStateChange" I have additional errors - similar verbiage - that I did not include, just for brevity. If I can find the error in this one, perhaps it will lead to the solution in the others. Maybe? Thanks for any help or direction. Mike
  3. To say I am impressed by TNG would be an understatement. Not only the continual work by Darrin but the whole community approach. In particular I have had phenomenal responses when I didnt know what I was doing, or wanted a wee tweak here or there. However, I also want my family to talk, share stories, give general public info about the weirdnesses in our genes and that is all a bit beyond the core structure. I have had and still keep a traditional Joomla site kilkie.org which does all those things but there is no automatic method for easy integration with Joomla. I have found a way around this as I can run TNG from my joomla and make it an option on the private side of the joomla site for family members only. There are still a number of problems, some of which are liveable with but some that irk family members. I would be grateful for comments/suggestions/criticism of any /all of them. 1. You need to log in twice - once to Jooma and once to TNG. I cannot see a way of adding login parameters to the call to TNG which might simplify things. They are both PHP and MySQL so it should be possible, just beyond my abilities. At present my family members are enjoying TNG so much they ignore the other part and so updating on stories, birthdays etc is all falling by the wayside. 2. More important is that I havent figured out how to make it impossible to run TNG directly, ie not via my joomla programme. I have put TNG in subfolder of my Joomla site but that doest stop people running things from there. Any ideas? with grateful thanks for any suggestions. Martin
  4. On my desktop I've been using Family Tree Maker as my preferred data entry software for about the last 10 years. For somewhat longer than that I've been using TNG, more recently integrated with Wordpress, to display it, although I also sync to Ancestry. I've always been disappointed I couldn't get media automatically allocated to the correct TNG Collection after importing a GEDCOM produced by FTM. Sadly, my TNG tree hadn't been updated for quite a while, partly because my media links were a mess, with many "File not found" errors, multiple links to the same file etc and I kept procrastinating about facing the challenge to tidy it all up . Over the Christmas/New Year break I bit the bullet, upgraded TNG from v. 11.x to 12.2 and spent some time modifying the CSS files to harmonise with my Wordpress theme (another thing I'd been putting off). Then I started researching the media collections issue; the excellent "gotchas" item in this very wiki was the hallelujah moment when I started to see light at the end of the tunnel! That article led me to Stephen Conner's FTM to TNG Gedcom Fixer program, and also Robin Richmond's GEDCOM Converter mod. Because I was more specifically interested in the media collections I focused on the former. So I spent days modifying the media filenames using FTM to match the requirements of Stephen's Fixer program, a process that's easy enough if quite tedious. I had replicated my website onto my desktop (in a WAMP environment) to fiddle with the CSS and some other mods, so I could test importing a new GEDCOM without jeopardising the live site. I deleted all the existing media files from the tng \media folder and copied the newly-renamed files from my FTM media folder into their respective new website folders. When I imported the fixed GEDCOM file (selecting the options Replace all current data and Import media if present) I was confused to see weird results eg only 12 out of 37 headstones correctly allocated in TNG, 50 out of 269 documents, etc. I spent more time researching and studying the GEDCOM files before & after the fixer program but couldn't see any issues. Then I used PHPMyAdmin to study the TNG database and noticed entries in the media table that didn't look right, and furthermore the number of rows didn't correlate with the number of files. It finally twigged that TNG doesn't clear (ie empty) the media tables when doing a GEDCOM import, even if the option to replace all data is selected. I came to realise that renaming the media files had therefore left things even more messy than previously, and that what I should do is clear all the media tables before doing an import so that TNG would rebuild it from scratch on import. With a view to helping other in the same predicament who may not have the expertise or inclination to play around in the database with PHPMyAdmin I quickly found an excellent backgrounder and tutorial by Bob Cumberbatch on doing it the easy way from within TNG itself (which also confirmed my thoughts). When I followed Bob's procedure to clear all the tables, but NOT restoring the media table (thereby forcing TNG to rebuild it) and re-imported the GEDCOM, Happy Days - all looks great! So if you've waded through all the background, here's my step-by-step takeaway to get your FTM media Categories reflected in TNG Collections. I've tried to pull together tips and procedures from several different places together with my experience into one resource. This has been produced with FTM 2019 and TNG 12.2, but I believe it should work with at least the immediately previous versions of both (but not FTM 2012). It worked for me, but use it at your own risk . NOTE: This should only be done if you use only Family Tree Maker (or Ancestry and sync to FTM) for your data entry and use TNG only to display it! NOTE 2: Sorry Mac users but this process will only work on Windows machines, because Stephen Conner's GEDCOM Fixer program only runs on Windows (though maybe OK using a Windows emulator? Anyone able to confirm please comment below!) I highly recommend replicating your online TNG site to your desktop and backing everything up (including all your media files, before renaming them) so you don't jeopardise your live site in case this doesn't work for you. Do all your modifications on your desktop site and check everything before going through the same steps on your live site. That's beyond the scope of this article, but if you Google or search YouTube for "WAMP" or "XAMPP" you'll find plenty of guides to get a local webserver set up. Also beyond the scope of this article you'll need to be familiar with a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program. Google or YouTube "FileZilla" for a start. Read the "gotchas" article on this wiki and the detailed information available on Stephen Conner's page (with its linked help docs) and Bob Cumberbatch's page, all as linked above, so that you understand the issues and what the proposed fixes do. Using FTM, rename your media files to match the requirements of Stephen Conner's fixer program. This might take quite some time, depending on your individual situation. Do the following in TNG. In Administration | Setup | Configuration | General Settings, Paths & Folders, setup the new media folders eg: In Administration | Setup | Configuration | Import Settings, make sure the Local [*] paths match those used by FTM on your computer, eg on my system this is (where "XXX" is my Windows username and "YYY" is my tree name in FTM) - yours might be very different: If you're not sure what this path is, either open your GEDCOM file (see below) in Notepad or similar, scroll to the bottom where the media entries are located and look for a line like the following: 1 FILE D:\Users\XXX\Documents\Family Tree Maker\YYY Media\p_4 generations.jpg or in Family Tree Maker (assuming you're using the default database path) go to the Tools | Options menu, General tab, copy the database path, eg for me this is: paste it into the TNG box and add "\[your tree name] Media\" on to the end of it, replacing [your tree name] with the actual name of your FTM tree. Note that in FTM, all media files are stored in the one folder, so you'll use the same path for all of the TNG settings. This path will be removed from that recorded in the GEDCOM file by TNG for each media file so that it can store just the actual filename. In Administration | Trees, for your selected or only tree, click the "Clear" icon: and answer OK to the prompt. When you get to this step on your live site you'd use your selected FTP program (eg FileZilla) for these steps, but initially of course this should be on your local machine so you'd use Windows Explorer/My Computer on Windows or Finder on a Mac to delete all the files in yout TNG media folder, then copy all your renamed media files from the FTM media folder into their respective new folders on your TNG installation, as described in Stephen Conner's documentation. In FTM, select the File | Export menu. The important options are highlighted here, other options at your discretion: then at the next prompt select Other as the Destination: Note the filename chosen when you click OK; you'll need it next. Follow the procedures in Stephen Conner's documentation to setup and run the fixer program, including installing any necessary Windows support files (one-off). From TNG's Administration | Import/Export page, select your "fixed" file, making sure it's not the original one exported from FTM: Select the important options as highlighted below, other options at your discretion: and finally click Import Data. Wait for a short while, then verify what you expect to see. Hopefully like me, you'll be a happy person! Enjoy! A huge thank you to Stephen Conner, Robin Richmond and Bob Cumberbatch for throwing light on this area, and certainly not least Darrin Lythgoe for making TNG so flexible and such a capable environment for our purposes! Cheers Ian Davidson

Don't have permission to access resource

I'm signed in as the administrator with all access rights. When trying to edit a source I get the following error. Template 18 with no mods. Forbidden You don't have permission to access this resource. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
  6. Happy New Year! Maybe this is here and I haven't found the switch but here goes. In Admin (Main Menu) Media, the thumb appears for all media (if you have assigned it). Can the same be done for Admin (Main Menu) People? So every people line would have a thumb. It would make it so much easier to identify the names that need some work. Thanks

    Amember pro integration

I have a website that is in Wordpress but my visitors register with aMember Pro - i want to be able import all the user into TNG then to switch on the user integration to wordpress option on the TNG settings so that if a new user registers it will also add to TNG. Or get the users to register on aMember but access my TNG data. Can this be done ? I am feeling hopeful today thanks Heather
  8. I do not understand why I can't create a new cemetery in 12.1. I have already created 11 that are working beautifully. However, when I try to create a new one, it always gives me the ID=0, and of course, this displays the "thispagedoesnotexist.html" page. I am including two pictures. One within the editor, the other is the result. Thank you for any help in solving this problem.
  9. I had TNG installed and working properly on a Synology RS 815 NAS. But after a reset of the server, I can't get TNG reinstalled. The data base is still existent. PHP and html seem to work fine (e.g. on Mediawiki). When I try to install a new instance of TNG, I get Please wait, attempting to process.. on "Set permissions" followed by the message in annex. Does anyone know what might be the cause? "Set permissions" has no influence on the database or am I wrong?
  10. When I tried to change Log Settings i get an Error message: I tried to exclude "Administrator" from logging. But this Error message (Warning ?) also appears, when I don't exclude usernames; Just by clicking the "SAVE"-Button FIle-Access for both genlog.txt and adminlog.txt is 0777. Is there any debug option for this ?
  11. I have finally found a way to get my media files assigned to the proper custom media collections during the GEDCOM import process. It does require a "hack" to the gedimport_misc.php file, maybe someday the capability can be made standard by Darrin, or turned into a mod, but for now, this is a HUGE thing for me. I've never cared for the documents/video/recordings collections, always wanted to use my own collections and menu items. Since I use TNG just for display, and frequently clear the tree and reimport from GEDCOM, I needed the placement of files into collections to be automated and not manual. Now it is. I wrote it up in a longer blog post with lots of screen shots, and I'm afraid it probably still doesn't make too much sense, but thought I'd offer it here for anyone looking to do this. Say I have images of birth certificates and the like on my desktop in P:\Genealogy\exhibits\birth_records, and my genealogy program (RootsMagic) puts that entire path in the GEDCOM file. I really want to have a media collection and menu item called "Birth Records", and for the GEDCOM import to put those files in that collection for me. Here's how make the server folder structure similar to the desktop folder structure on desktop: P:\Genealogy\exhibits\birth_records on server: tng/documents/birth_records create the collection in TNG Admin>>Media collection ID: birthrec display title: Birth Records folder name: documents/birth_records add code to customconfig.php defining this collection and the gedcom file path $locimppath['birthrec'] = "P:\\Genealogy\\exhibits\\birth_records"; edit gedimport_misc.php to add this collection ID and import path info to the getLocalPathList function This is what gedimport_misc.php section looks like original: function getLocalPathList($mediatypeID) { global $locimppath, $mediatypes_locpaths; switch( $mediatypeID ) { case "photos": $locpath = $locimppath['photos']; break; case "histories": $locpath = $locimppath['histories']; break; case "documents": $locpath = $locimppath['documents']; break; case "headstones": $locpath = $locimppath['headstones']; break; case "recordings": case "videos": $locpath = $locimppath['other']; break; default: $locpath = isset($mediatypes_locpaths[$mediatypeID]) ? $mediatypes_locpaths[$mediatypeID] : ""; } return $locpath; } You need to add a "case" section for your new media collection. This is what you add: case "birthrec": $locpath = $locimppath['birthrec']; break; Do that for every additional media collection you have created. This is the longer blog post about this technique https://lptex.com/blog/tng-custom-media-collections-using-gedcom-import/ Here's what I see after I do a GEDCOM import and then run the secondary process to trim menus And this is what the menu looks like on the live site I'm working towards the TNG-WP integration and will not be using the TNG menus at all, so I didn't bother with any menu icons. I hope this helps others as much as it has me - this is something I've wanted for YEARS and finally sat down to figure out how to do it myself.
  12. Recently I changed my setting to never show the LDS data on getperson page (Setup >> Configuration >> General Settings Privacy Show LDS Data: to Never) That works fine, but now I get a PHP Warning. Editing "Notes"

I'm positive I've edited "Notes" in the past but the how is eluding me. From the person's profile and edit, the notes disappear from the screen. How can I locate them for editing?
  14. I am not exactly sure how to phrase my question. I am unable to add a source, a spouse or children. When I try half of the page becomes shaded and I have no option to continue, I am desperately in need of a solution because it is very frustrating to say the least. Any help would be greatly appreciated. A photo is attached of what is occurring.
  15. I've gotten the following error message after installing TNG 12 from 11.2. Now unable to change templates.
  16. Since I last updated TNG v12.2 an individual's ahnentafel on the Ancestors tab is only showing one generation. I have looked in Chart Settings, but ahnentafel is not mentioned, niether is it in the Help page. I am using Template 16. Does anyone have a similar problem or a solution?
  17. At the time of release of version 1.0.3, there waqs release MYSQL 5.7. In it's strict mode, it prevented saving 0 as date. This meant new registrations did not created SQL errors. it was only tested on TNG versions 9 and 10.1.3 asI had not upgraded to V12 it's operation in WP-TNg integration (by Mark Barnes) was a bit flacky. I have bumped up new release to version 2.0.1 because I have now upgraded to TNG version 12.1 and this version and this now TNG-Worpress login works with most TNG versions. What does Version 2.0.1 do? Adds a Registration Form which may replace the Wordpress registration form by deselecting 'Membership>Anyone can register' in Wordpress Dashboard>Settings. Adds a User Profile page which saves the changes in Wordpress and TNG database Adds an enhanced Password-Reset module which checks for the presence of email of registered user. Almost all the text used in pages and emails is customisable by the administrator. User may login using either registered user Name or email. On successful login, if User Name exists in TNG database, the user is also logged in to TNG. GDPR Privacy policy is implemented Compatibility Tested on TNG versions, 9, 10.1.3 and 12.1 Not tested on TNG V11 but database changes are incorporated (Thank you @Darrin for providing me the details of the changes) Tested on PHP version 5.4 - 7.3.1 Tested, successfully, with Kloosterman and Mark Barnes methods of Integration Detects TNG versions in use to allow for database changes Customisable privacy settings track TNG 12 cookie and consent flags set consent flag for TNG V9-11 saves consent flag in Wprdpress database set to ask returning user for consent Outstanding Issue If using Mark Barnes plugin, Login within TNG is not functional. User can only login / logout using the Widget. Cause of this is buried deep inside the tne plugin and I have not been able to resolve this. I have the widget working on my live site using Kloosterman method and on my Test site using Mark Barnes plugin. Sadly, both sites are still using TNG V10.13. I have not got round to upgrading the two sites. čÖü Upgrade to tng V12.2, on both sites, was forced on me because PHP 5.4 became depracated. If you are using Mark Barnes Plugin, remember to 'uncheck Integrate TNG/Wordpress logins: ' in the plugin setup You may download V2.01 V2.0.2 form here If appropriate please message me if you intend to test/use this plugin.

    Login problem

There seems to be an anomaly concerning logging in on my website. If your browser automatically logs you in - or - you log in at the home page there is no problem. It works perfectly. If you try to log in while you are anywhere else on the site - such as an individual ancestor's page, then it hangs up and shows a blank page. The url says it is hung at processlogin.php. However, if you hit the browser's back button it will go back to where you were and it will show you logged in. The same thing happens whether you are using Firefox, Chrome, or Opera. When using Edge, it just jumps back to the Home page and shows you logged in. This is not the way it is supposed to work. I am using TNG ver 12.2. This problem did not exist before I upgraded. Perhaps I did something wrong setting it up. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks James Brown https://thebrownfamilytree.info/
  19. I'm trying to understand how to write URL/URI links in TNG addons like the Family Group Worksheet to keep them compatible with WordPress and other CMS integrations. My scripts sometimes fail on WordPress sites and I'm pretty sure it's because links to other pages are not working correctly. I've already scoured the Internet with no joy, but I suspect all the real expertise is right here. Using the TNG function getURL() is not ideal, since my scripts often work from a TNG sub directory, where I need to define cms['tngpath'] to access TNG libraries, but works against my own scripts which are relative to the working directory of the addon, not the TNG root. So what does the CMS need? Could anyone with an integration like WordPress using the TNGcms class share a copy of that script with me to help me understand the internals? Any other guidance on this issue, such as which links are affected (only menus?) and which are not, would be most helpful. Thanks.
  20. Hi all, There's something off with my index.php page and I'm hoping some kind soul will help me understand how to fix it. If you hover over the top drop-down menu you'll see what I mean. https://thechosenscribe.uk/genealogy/index.php Thanks in advance Laura
  21. Hello, When I launch the import gedcom from the computer (or the server) the process runs endlessly. And by stopping the import, the site (TNG and Wordpress) is inaccessible for about 5 minutes with the following message: 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable nginx
  22. I have looked around and I am sure this has been asked many times...I am starting from scratch due to my hosting account being hacked. I downloaded my GEDCOM from Ancestry which I had spent many hours researching and documenting my family history and added a large amount of media. When I downloaded the Ancestry file, and uploaded it to TNG, non of the media came with it. Instead, it shows a generic icon and it links back to Ancestry to download a document ...or more frustrating is a file name on the TNG site (see below) Some of these photos I no longer have. Is there some way to DL from ancestry to include the media files......or some sort of work around? Over the years, I have used several PC's and I would have to search all of them individually to try and recreate what I had. Many thanks, Dan
  23. Hi everyone, On both the Registration form and the suggest form there is a link to the Data Protection Policy. My question is how I can accomplish some extra space between the Data Protection Policy link and the text above is. In my opinion it is squeezed together to much at the moment. Kind regards, Rob Severijns
  24. Please remove this post.
  25. I added a new cemetery under Cemeteries, add new and saved. I came back to review and it wasn't there so I re-added, saved and confirmed it was there this time. In Media, Media Information in the drop down box for Cemetery that new cemetery is there twice! So I wasn't going nuts I did add it the first time but something happened. So how do I get rid of the double listing in the drop down? Should I delete the single entry in the Cemetery list, confirm both are gone in the drop down and re-add?
