1) Many places don't show .long and .lat, but still bring up the right place when the "white on purple arrow" is clicked 2) Maps are shown with numbers 1 , 2 ... on a pink tick mark. When clicking on those tick marks a Google map is shown that would try to indicate the route from my location to that place. Strange!

Geocoding and maps are mistaken on https://francisfranck.com/TNG Geocoding has attributed the same lat. and long. to all my places. All the maps also refer to the same place.

I have a very large database with 44,000+ places. Several thousand have names indicating a particular burial place. In order for me to focus on building the Cemetery functions in TNG, I need to capture those Places that have the largest numbers of Burial entries (eliminating Burial counts that just contain more generalized "city, county, state, country" entries or the hundreds of cemeteries having only one or two burials recorded.) I need some help with a script for a report that would select all Places containing "cemetery", "memorial", "burial" generate a count of all Burial events associated with the selected Places sort the selected Places in descending order of Burial count preferably allowing for an input variable for minimum Burial count (but with at least a minimum count of 25 -- I could manually modify the script if needed) This should be a fairly simple script, but I'm not totally up to date on script writing.

Together with ChatGPT I’ve been brainstorming about the possible role of AI in Genealogy software. The report is on my website Genealogy and AI - Francis The intro is quite general. I would recommend experts to concentrate on the paragraphs on AI.

Currently OSM is supporting the following maps: OSM (default), OSMFR, SURF, EWSM, EWTM, SAT, HYDDA, WIKI, MTB and TOPO. 89 people have registered as using the mod. Looking at who's using which map I notice the following: 69 out of 89 use the OSM map, 8 use the EWSM map, 2 use the EWTM map, at least one uses OSMFR (Hi @Katryne 😁) and 16 didn't mention which map option they use. That said the most commenly used map is OSM which has one big downside. The map shows names in the langauge of the region which makes reading them very difficult. Since the creation (2018) of the OSM mod by the late Erik Hoppe many other OSM maps have become available. Some of those maps can be found here: osMap - OpenStreetMap Wiki There are ten online worldmaps available in the following languages: English, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. That covers the majority of the languages spoken in the world. I don't know if it much work to add those maps to the OSM mod but I'm sure it would benefit a lot of OSM users. We could even consider dropping some of the existing map options currently in OSM but that's up for debate. Let me know how you feel and hopefully someone is able/willing to try and update the OSM mod. If you feel up to it or wish to participate let us know here so we can start a workgroup. I for one am willing to participate as a tester and give input for possible options in the OSM mod. Of course any other ideas are welcome too. Kind regards, Rob

Can anyone confirm this before I address Darin? I installed the TNG 14 Patch2 and I noticed that the map is no longer showing on the media edit page. The admin_editmedia.php was updated with the patch2 but I'm not sure if that is the cause of the issue. I'm using OSM and on the person page the map shows just fine.

I want to insert items from tng_addressescopy into tng_addresses but with specific addressID's. So I'm trying to adjust from tng_addressesCopy the addressID so I can give them specific ID's. Now it starts for the first at 6522 and go to 7222. I'd like to adjust them my own ID's (start with 2100 to .....) Is there a way to do that?

Hello friends, Since this is such a wonderful international group, I was wondering if you are acquainted with this site https://maps.arcanum.com/en/ which is used by Matricula also https://data.matricula-online.eu/de/ They have the most wonderful old maps and their interface allows you to see the old and new look of the place map. It would be wonderful if this kind of map could be integrated in TNG. Now, I have to tell you I know nothing about programming and also my main language is Spanish so many things are hard to understand by me. (I know I have good English but only in everyday English). Maybe someone would be interested and help investigating if it can be done, costs, permits, etc. All suggestions are welcome... Darrin would something like this would interest you? Best regards, Maria Rosa Schroeder

Hello, It might be useful to be able to choose a default jurisdiction by moving the search to the lower level when this jurisdiction is not entered. In my gedcom, the format for places is: Ville, Code Insee, Lieu dit, département, , Pays Jean-Louis http://racine-ad.fr/TNG/index.php

Hello, it would be nice to have markers in the mod openstreemap. Everything is working fine in the mod osm_v13.1.0.8g except this. Can't it? Thank you for an answer and special thank to Roger (the kiwi) to give me the right forum. Regards Stephan

Hello everybody! OpenStreetMaps has quit working on desktop. And I am unable to find the cause. I've already tried using the Mod Manager Remove capability. As well as to replace all affected files with the copies I made before the installation. But the error persists. The <div> in which the map is supposed to load, seems to be staying empty on desktop. Whilst it loads perfectly on mobile. This error occurs on all the getperson and place pages. The heatmap is working fine. I am using openstreetmap_v13.0.0.7c on TNG v.13.0.3. Has anybody encountered a problem like this? What could possibly cause this error? And how to solve it? Thank you in advance for any help you could provide. Jeffrey Thümann

Hi Everyone! When geocoding, I hit a wall when I was trying to edit a place. I have an important village called Mollyroe in the county of Donegal, Ireland. I tried to edit the lat. and long. (using both styles) for OSM, but still, it didn't show up on the map. Google maps shows the tiny village in Ireland but not OSM. Goggle map of Mollyroe Can I manual enter it somehow in order to have the map in the individual view working correctly for that location?? Thanks for any help with this, greatly appreciated! Jeff

batch edit geocodes and grouping alt's of same area???
jeff g posted a topic in Questions and Answers
Hi Everyone! Geocodes! I am using openstreetmaps & I do have Rootsmagic, but not sure of the workflow. SEARCHING IN FORUMS I FOUND OUT ABOUT ADMIN GEOCODE BUT When I try to geocode at 500 I get many warnings like this: 64. Anchor, McLean, Illinois, USA ... Could not be geocoded (REQUEST_DENIED) For batch grouping I have some for example that are: Adams County, Indiana, USA & Adams Co., Indiana, USA how do I batch combine quite a many of these?? (Merge in admin places didn't seem to do it) Jeff -
[SOLVED] OpenStreetMap heatmap stopped displaying markers and numbers
jthumann posted a topic in Addons
Hello! This is my first post here and I'm truly loving TNG as our main genealogy site. So I've been having lots of fun with the OpenStreetMap heatmap too. However, since yesterday the location markers and cluster numbers stopped being displayed and the heatmap also doesn't show newly geocoded locations anymore. The console gives me these errors (see the attached images), but I have no idea how to fix this. Before the heatmap stopped working as it should, I geocoded some new locations and deleted some duplicate ones but I'm not sure if this triggered the error. Also I do have some uncommon characters in a few place names and person names, such as the № sign and the [ ] and () brackets and that's about it. But before the heatmap stopped working it worked fine while I used these characters in some names. So I'm really not sure what's causing the error. Any help would be appreciated because I love the heatmap! By the way I'm using TNG v.13.0.3 and OpenStreetMap v.13.0.0.7b. And I have a total of 194 places (all geocoded with decimal points not decimal commas), if that means anything. -
I cannot figure out how to programmatically link a record in the tng_cemetery table to a corresponding record in the tng_places table. At least, that is what I think I need to do. I have written a very useful tool for myself and would share with anyone who wanted it once it is perfected. I use rootsmagic 7 to create gedcoms to import my Ancestry data into TNG. One of the great about Rootsmagic is that I don't have to do too much cleanup to the .ged file before I import. Looking at the rootsmagic generated .ged file I noticed that there are _WEBTAGs for all the findagrave entries in the file , however upon import into TNG that information is lost. It was not too difficult to write a small php file that generated a list from that gedfile with the individual's ID and the urls on each line. Then from that info, another php file puts all the findagrave links into TNG as an external link into the individual's page. All done practically instantaneously. However, then I decided to carry it a step further. I would put these links into a person's burial section along with the correct cemetery name. So you'd have the findagrave link there and also if you clicked the little magnifying glass next to the burial place you'd get a map and below it everyone else who was buried there. To do this, I wrote a file which read all the lines in the list I generated of the person's ID, and findagrave link. The program loads the link (findagrave) page, finds the cemetery name and location from the memorial page, then loads the cemetery page and retrieves the gps coordinates from a meta tag on that page and generates a new list with all that info on it. I could get a couple of hundred before their server stops me, times out or something, and then I'd have to do it again with the remaining entries. It took a few minutes and three runs before I got the whole list of 517 burials in 217 cemeteries. Then I created another php file which reads that list and puts all that into the website programmatically and instantly.. The problem is that when you click the magnifying glass next to the burial location it shows the cemetery name and every person buried there, but no map! I solved that on my website by going to admin > cemeteries and going to the edit page of each of the 217 cemeteries and checking the box to 'Copy the geocode information below to this place' and now they all work correctly. Even though they are all now working correctly on my site, having to manually edit each entry kind of takes a little out of the whole idea. I want to do the whole thing without editing anything. Now to be clear, even when this current problem is solved, the program still needs a lot of cleanup. I found a couple of places on findagrave.com where there was a memorial, but no cemetery, which would cause an error in my program. That's what error-handling is for, so I am sure that and a couple of other details can be cleaned up. I am hopeful that someone out there with more knowledge of how tng works, and also more programming expertise will tell how I can do this all without having to manually edit afterwords. Thanks https://thebrownfamilytree.info

Hi everyone I´m new to TNG and my genealogy site is still under construction. Can anyone help me in this topic: My ancestors are nearly born in the same town and I know the adresses of the birth places. So the birth places are specified like Brienner Straße 6, Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Advantage is you can see the exact birth place of each ancestor in TNG on Google Maps. But I don´t want that guest users are able to see the full address, only town and country. Is there a mod out to fix that? How are you dealing with exact birth places in TNG? Thanks for reply :) Mona

Open Street Maps Not Recognizing Place Names - RESOLVED
jhculbert posted a topic in TNG Modifications
Now that I have begun to use Open Street Maps, I have noticed that it doesn't like arbitrary (unrecognized) place names that I used to have mapped in TNG using Google Maps. For example, I have "Maple Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada," which works fine in OSM, but it no longer likes "Prob. Maple Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada." In TNG I used to be able to edit these arbitrary places by telling TNG that "Prob. Maple Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada" is "Maple Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada" in the place window on the Edit Existing Place page. I then use the geocode for that real place, and it maps. But now, I cannot use (nor even edit!) the "Prob. Maple Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada" place name and save it as I did before, as TNG just reverts to no lat., long. or place level. The following two screenshots show what is happening. The first is just before I save the edit: The second is what shows in my place list after the save; Is there a solution so that I can have my numerous arbitrary place names mapped in OSM?? TIA. Jim -
I want to create a report that shows me all the cemeteries in my database. I entered that here: SQL: SELECT tng_people.living, tng_people.private, lnprefix, prefix, suffix, title, tng_people.branch, birthdate, birthdatetr, altbirthdate, altbirthdatetr, deathdate, deathdatetr, burialdate, burialplace, lastname, firstname, deathpersondate, deathplace, tng_people.ID., Deathplace, tng_people , tng_people.gedcom, nameorder FROM (tng_people) WHERE (burialplace LIKE "% Friedhof%" OR "Memorial" OR "Cemetery") AND tng_people.gedcom = "KLERC" ORDER BY burialplace But only places that contain the word "Friedhof" are shown to me: Cemetries and memorials are not displayed! Where am I making the mistake? Thank you for your help in advance....

I click on the x box to delete a place, and the red comes and goes, and the place remains. It's odd; this has never happened before. That's the little video clip attached. It's there still if I log out and come back later. When I select or more places and click "delete selected," a new utterly white tab opens but nothing changes. This happens in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. Has anyone else seen this? Derrick deleteclip.mp4

When I go to places in admin, there is a blank record being displayed. If I delete it and leave places and come back, it reappears. Never had that problem with 12.

Not sure what happened but my maps quickly close immediately after they render. I get a message to refer to the Java Script Console. I checked my browser config for activating Java.... it’s turned on and don’t find any other problem. I recently updated to V13 but had the problem for quite some prior to it. I’ve read everything WiKi has and google and I’m puzzled... can anyone help? http://www.byingtonfamily.org ~ jeff

I'm not sure if the category "Installation and Configuration" is the correct address (maybe also developers) There seems to be an unsolved conflict on editing rights for places, notes, sources, etc. if there are editors for different trees. All these editors are allowed to edit places, notes, sources, etc. although they are only editors for their own tree. These seems to be a critical bug. Is there a chance to solve this problem quickly. Or to make a workaround. I'm not familiar with PHP and the Mod scripting. It would be at least adviceable to exclude editing and deletion Regards, Fritz Loseries
