    Mobile and Standard Site Views

TNG offers mobile users a 'switch' button at the bottom of each page (before the footer) to switch between standard and mobile views. I added Ken Roy's very useful Mobile Site Enhancement Mod to improve the mobile view appearance. It looked so good that i thought on occasion it would be nice to have that view available on the PC as well. However, I couldn't find a way to have that happen short of having a link which appends the '?sitever="mobile", and the the switch back to 'standard' appears, but the the switch again to 'mobile' button does not. So, I put the following code into my private Mod but wanted to share it anyone else finds it useful. The code is the same used to set mobile devices back to mobile from standard. Maybe there's another way or better code set the 'site' to mobile, but this works fine for me on all pages, and still works fine on mobile phones as well. I think maybe Darrin could add this code so the option is available on all devices. // modify genlib.php -- give ability to switch to mobile on a laptop %target:genlib.php% %location:% include($cms['tngpath'] . "stdsitecredit.php"); %end:% %insert:before% else { $thispage = getScriptName(false); $thispage = preg_replace('/\??\&?sitever=(mobile|standard|tablet)/',"",$thispage); $con = strpos($thispage, "?") == false ? "?" : "&amp;"; $gotover = "mobile"; $message = $text['switchm']; $footer .= "<p class=\"smaller center\">\n"; $footer .= "<a href=\"$thispage{$con}sitever=$gotover\" class=\"fieldnameback lightlink2 rounded4\">&nbsp;{$message}&nbsp;</a>\n"; $footer .= "</p><br/>\n"; } %end:% Ron TNG 11.0.2 http://www.kmtrees.com wampserver 2.5,legacy 7.5, family historian 6.2.2, win 10 pro
  2. I have released Simple SEO versions 10.1.0.3 (TNG 10) and 11.0.0.3 (TNG 11). The fourth release of this mod adds support for localized family titles on the familygroup.php, familychart.php (TNG 11), suggest.php, edit, and admin pages. Previously, these pages used a random collection of formats to refer to families that included symbols and English words. Simple SEO, normalizes these, adds support for family IDs (controlled by a mod parameter) and localizes the phrases appropriate to the grammar of the 8 supported languages: Danish, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. For example, a family title in Italian would look like: La Famiglia di Robert Boyd Herndon e Tennie May Calhoun (F918) As long as a user is careful to preserve the parameters in the language strings (see the cust_text.php file of any supported language for an example), additional languages can be added locally. (Thanks to Robin Richmond for this suggestion.) The mod still supports adding family titles to the page headers along with all known names of the individuals as meta keyword entries. Date simplification (using bot the 'long' and 'short' formats) and all known names, aliases, married names are still supported for individuals and their page headers. Please see the Simple SEO Wiki page for additional information. This update is recommended for all users of Simple SEO.
  3. All, I have published Simple SEO 11.0.0.3-rc1 to my site and am hoping that some intrepid TNG users will help me beta-test this revision to the mod. This version internationalizes the family titles that appear on the Family Group, Family Chart, Suggest and Edit pages; supports internationalized titles in PDF reports; pushes those titles into page headers (in the same manner that simplified dates are added to individual pages); and supports family titles with, and without, IDs. That last feature is controlled by a mod parameter. The approach to localization of titles is a little novel. Since word order is important and is dictated by contemporary grammar, the mod uses PHP classes to provide translation and ordering. The impact is that adding a new language is achieved by adding a new subclass rather than by adjusting the language files. (So...you can't just change or override the chosen translation. Unless you want to modify some code.) I'm open to alternatives to this approach, but it seemed to be the easiest way to get what I wanted. The languages supported are: Danish, English, French, German, Norwegian, PortugueseBR, Spanish, and Swedish. I'll add any additional languages that I can get translations for. Thanks in advance for any assistance with the testing. I plan to publish the mod formally in about a week when I've completed the backport for TNG 10. k/r Bill Herndon

New: Scrollbox mod - Beta release

Hi all, From the Wiki page http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Scrollbox_mod ----------------- Any of the pages that shows an ancestors or descendants diagram will, in high and wide diagrams, "hide" the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the diagram. For many non-Mac users this is annoying as they often only have a vertical scrolling wheel. To scroll horizontally they have to use the scrollbar. So to see a person in the top right corner of a very wide and high diagram, they have to scroll down all the way to the diagram bottom to find the horizontal scrollbar, then scroll right and then scroll all the way up again. This is not very user friendly. This mod creates a box, adapted to the browser window, displaying the diagram and if necessary will add scrollbars. As the scrollbars are connected to the box, not to the page, they are always visible and at hand if needed. ------------------ There is support for all templates including up to five custom and there is also a No Template version. As I use a Mac, I can't test properly (beta...). So please have a look if you are a non-Mac user. Erik

    DNA Mod Manager

After installing the DNA Mod manager "Add DNA test results", version 11.0.0.1, I get following message when I select "DNA Tests" in the Admin Area or Public Area: An error has occurred in the TNG software. This could be due to a setup issue, an incomplete upgrade or a program bug. If you are the site owner, you may contact TNG support for help with this problem. Please copy the query below and paste it into your message.Query: SELECT testID, test_type, test_date, tng_dna_tests.personID, tng_dna_tests.gedcom, test_number, firstname, lastname, lnprefix, nameorder, suffix, prefix, title, person_name, confirmed, markeropt, notesopt, linksopt, private_dna FROM tng_dna_tests LEFT JOIN tng_people ON tng_people.personID = tng_dna_tests.personID AND tng_people.gedcom = tng_dna_tests.gedcom ORDER BY test_number, test_date LIMIT 50 This message disappears as soon as I uninstall the "Add DNA test results". Can somebody give me an idea how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance! Jan http://www.matruschka.net
  7. Hello all, Suppose you don't have a side-scrolling mouse or pad. Also suppose that you open a very wide and high descendants tree at a TNG site. Much wider and higher than your browser window. To see the rightmost top part of that tree, you first have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the tree to find the horizontal scroll bar. Then you have to scroll to the right and then scroll all the way up again. Maybe to find that you scrolled too far to the right... I have found a way to place scroll bars outside of the visible part of the tree, and adapt the visible part to the size of the browser window. You can see it in action here: (Make your browser only 1200-1300 pixels wide for a good "test environment") https://xerxx.se/descend.php?personID=I36&tree=tredNr2&display=standard&generations=8 If you scroll down with the right-most scroll bar, you will find that the box where the tree is displayed is a bit smaller than your browser window. And you will find a horizontal scroll bar below the box. So now you can scroll right-left without having to go to the bottom of the tree first. So far so good. However! If you hover any of the "more" arrows below the person boxes, the pop-up appears. But... That is only if you have not scrolled the tree in any direction: When you use the scroll bars, the pop-ups lose their orientation and appears at places you don't expect - often outside the visible part. (And that's even worse than having to scroll to the bottom.) So: Is there some coder out there who knows what to do and where, to give the correct coordinates to the pop-ups? I certainly can not do it... Unfortunately (Posted also at tngusers2) Thanks In Advance, Erik

    Customising of charts

Dear TNG community, I would like to understand how can I customise graphical view of the charts. Particular I’m looking for a function that allows to view parameters in “Descendants Charts”. More specific I would like to add numbering to the chart similar to the PDF function, but in chart view including to provide the start number. E.g. the male in the 1. generation might be the 9th child. Thus, I would like to start with 9. In the 5th generation a child might have than the number 9-5-2-1-1 (or just 95211). A prefix for the family name of that branch might be nice as well like P-9-5-2-1-1. In a more generic way other parameters might be nice such ocupation, place of living etc. Finally, a way to customise such a chart for printing (PDF) would be great. E.g. a landscape view with the first generation at top. Maybe I’m wrong but I cannot find such or even similar functions in TNG out of the box. I also looked at webtrees which has a numbering function but does not allow to set the starting number. Thus, my question is what is need to get this function. If the answer is “write a mod yourself”, then please give me some more hints where and how to start as well as an idea, if it is “reachable” with reasonable effort. Thanks a lot for you help. With best regards Dieter P.S.: For those who would like to know why I do need this. In fact the example above is real. The purpose is regular family meetings with a large number of people. For those an grand uncle of mine has introduced the numbering scheme. Each person gets his number printed and attached. With a large printed tree view of all the descendants all people can easily find the relations.

    Modern touch for genealogy

Dear TNG community, I plan to launch a site to stimulate (beside the older generation) the younger generation in my family. So far an aunt of mine has organised family meetings and created a huge word document with the family history. This contains tree charts for the diverse branches and a single page with characteristics, contact details and stories for each person. Now we would like to bring thinks to the next and following generation with a more modern approach with a family web site. So far I have been looking at TNG and webtrees. Both with an impressive feature set. However both lack on social network functions and addressing to reach out for the younger generation, who interacts with instagram, whatsapp, wechat (QR code), Facebook URL, LinkedIn URL, etc. Browsing through the forums I found the people want to stick strictly to the GEDCOM specification, which does not include such data fields per person. Even the address is an “event” that may include an e-mail, phone number and URL, which sound weird for me. Actually I’m looking for a simple solution that allows me to add some of those attributes to the living persons of today. Because those are the ones I would like to share the work with and those I would like to support to communicate easy to each other. If all else fails I’m thinking of setting up a Wordpress page for each person on which I can include such attributes and link those as “address” event to genealogy site. I would wonder, if there is a simpler (rather integrated) solution that some one can point me to. Thanks a lot for you help. With best regards Dieter
  12. I would like to have the option (mod?) to select which data of living people should be visible on the site without users have to log-in. In TNG it isn't possible to show only the abbreviations of the name for living when not logged in as a user, What can I do to realize just that? Bernard
  13. Has anyone upgraded a TNG V10.1.3 + Commentics to V11? Is the Commentics module compatible? tia Brian
  14. Darrin just released TNG 11.0.1, and the only MOD which 'cannont install' needs some changes is the Media Preview Fixed MOD. It targets genstyle.css . Before I compare changes, has anyone worked on this yet? I will send a note to the author as well, though I've never been able to get responses from Jeff Robison through the Mod Support channel. Update:Fixed. Just a minor change within the MOD media_previewfixed_v11.0.0.0.cfg , and all works fine. 16. Installing v11 over 10.1.3. Following Darrin's instructions, trying to remove mod "showfolio". Got errors "can't delete" on some files (see attached screen shot). Do I have to correct these errors first or can I ignore them and proceed with v11 install?
  17. Hi, I have a problem with the mod http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Person_Map, version 11 The install is without errors, but a change in the map setting via setup>configuration>map settings, then start with "Start with expanded section: No", results in an error...in the MOD manager. See the screenprints attached: 1. the successful installation 2. the change 3. the errors, suddenly the old cfg version 10.1.0.2a pops up? What is wrong? Kind Regards, Sandor

    User Footer Copyright ©

I'm using the User Footer Copyright Mod (thanks to Ken) but there is a character before the copyright symbol that shouldn't be there  I've had a bit of google/play around but couldnt remove it. Using V.10.1.2.5a and my TNG is V.10.1.3. (I do note that the mod hasnt been updated for my version) Any suggestions?
  20. Is it possible to restrict certain features, such as gedcom downloads, mods, etc. to registered members while allowing un-registered guests to view the basic tree?

    1939 Register

Hi, Is there an update to the Census Plus International mod to include the 1939 Register for the UK, or is there going to be an update in the near future to include the register. Nicola
  22. I've noticed that a couple of mods have an empty _MACOSX folder included in the zip file. I'm just curious - is that a necessary part of the mod, or a remnant of when the mod was created? And if it's necessary, is it ok that several mods share the same _MACOSX folder? (I'm not sure how I could install them together if they can't share the folder.) Thanks, Dave
  23. I've just released Citation Master v10.0.2.6 and v10.1.0.6 for TNG 10.0.2 - 10.1.3. The version includes code changes that disambiguate some duplicate functions in order to support compatibility with the Regroup Person Profile series of mods and other similar mods. I've also included some pale branding on source browsing page to help me to determine what versions are installed across the TNG community. v10.1.0.6 and v10.0.2.6 are suggested, but not required, updates for Citation Master. If, however, you never installed the version 5 functionality (v10.1.0.5 or v10.0.2.5), I recommend installing this update. As always, the Wiki page is here. Bill Herndon Lindell-Herndon Genealogy
  24. I have been out of touch with TNG for a year or so, and have recently had Darrin successfully upgrade my site from TNG v9.2.1 to v10.1.3 When installing (for example) Family Indicators Mod or Relationships Display Mod, I see that the FIM includes a php file, and the RDM includes a subfolder. The Mod instructions state to upload the relevant Mod folder and THEN extract the files. My equivalent of cPanel does not seem to allow this option so I am first extracting on my computer, then uploading the files directly to the Mods folder. Obviously this is how it works for a .cfg file, but should I put the family indicator php file straight into the Mods folder? And similarly, should I upload the *contents* of the Relationships Display *subfolder* directly to the Mods folder? Thanks, Joyaa
  25. OK, I'm wanting to get some advice from you guys that are experts coding TNG and all. Right now I'm running two different scenarios of TNG v10.1.3. one in WordPress and one standalone. These are both on my localhost running WAMP. I have no domain yet, that's coming in a month or 2. OK, here's what I'd like to try on my standalone TNG install: I'd like to create a separate photo gallery for my wife's photography. It will have an album with 6 to 8 galleries. These photos have nothing to do with genealogy. Should I create a new folder, say, Gallery, and use the historytemplate.php file to create the album and gallery pages? I'm sure I would have to rename the php files of course. Should I store these photos in the default photos folder or in the gallery folder? Can you import photos and have them stored in separate folders in the default photos folder? I'd like to have one page (album.php for example) with a photo representing each gallery, each with it's own description. I would also like to link the photo of its gallery from the album page to another page (gallery1.php for example) that will hold the photos of that gallery and so on and so forth. This is similar to how you do it in WordPress. Also with 'breadcrumbs' linking back to the album page. With some expert advice and maybe some sample code snippets, I'd be able to create such a photo gallery. I would prefer to use my standalone TNG install for this instead of using WordPress as I have it setup now. it's OK, but I'm just not to keen on heavily modding the suffusion theme in WordPress to look like one of the TNG templates (I'd prefer to use TNG as my cms) if you know what I mean. Thanks!
