    Should I share these Mods?

Not sure if these are of interest to anyone. I am not a coding expert but I have designed a few mods that I like. What is the appropriate way to share them??? My Mods Search My Line I use the bold ancestor child links mod and really like it because it shows me quickly where I am when I am working on my family. [The mod requires the creation of a branch for direct line ancestors]. Building off of this, I wanted to be able to search only direct ancestors when I needed to. This is super handy for seeing whole portions of a family. I created a little mod that adds in a check box in the search form to narrow the search to direct ancestors [already identified by branch]. Search No Parents This is another check box that limits search results to people with no parents. Combined with the first mod, I am able to see only my Treetops ancestors with little effort - and work on lines at the very end. Example: Look at the two fields under the "Show Death/Burial Information" line. My Capital Search This Mod adds two criteria to the search form for the firstname and lastname fields. One is ALL CAPS. I use all CAPS in the first or last name fields to identify "troubled spots" in my family research and to alert anyone looking at my data that it should be viewed with suspicion. The trouble is I need to be able to find these trouble spots when I am researching. The ALL CAPS search returns only names that are in All capitals helping me to navigate easily. While I was at it, I added one that is probably of little utility to anybody else -- does not contain. I want to be able to exclude some records that contain the word "family" or 'generations" from searches and this allows me to easily do that. Example: Look at the last two pull down fields on the first and last name menus My Perhaps Mod Guessed dates and uncertain links (parent to child or spouse to spouse), which many of us identify with the words "about," "before," or "after" in the first case, and which, I at least, identify with capitalized names in the second case are like codes that say "hey, this is a guess or maybe a little better than guess." But there is no reason why everyone who visits our websites should know that. So.... I created this mod to add the word "perhaps" next to the title fields on the getperson page. I know that this follows my own system but I think it would be easy to modify for other approaches. Example: Look down at the "Name" and "Born" fields. Given my status as a super novice, there is surely much to be improved in these. And I made them to serve my needs. However, I would be happy to share them, just need some advice on how. Each follows the mod format, identifying TNG 11.0.2 as the latest version they work with (because I do not know how to determine if they will work with earlier versions. Advice? Cheers, Scott * * * UPDATE 26 May 2017 The Search my Line Only mod and the Search no Parents have been combined in a single package and shared as Direct Line Search mod. I think I found most of the problems - one can only hope. The Capital Search and My Perhaps Mod don't seem to resonate with folks -- different approaches! The wiki page for the Direct Line Search Mod is http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php/Direct_Line_Search

    Multi language pages

Hello, I'm not really that experienced with TNG and its addons yet. Since my folks is spread all over the world, I'd like to provide English information besides my mother tongue, e.g. in fields like captions, notes etc., i.e. it would be nice to have one field per language. Is there a way to accomplish this within the TNG core (by a setting I didn't discover yet) or is there a mod or addon providing multi language fields? Regards Anke
  6. Hi, I updated from TNG8 to TNG11 and would like to update the Geocode Assist Mod as well, seeing in the Wiki that version 10 of the Geocode Assist Mod has successfully been installed in TNG11. However the download link seems to be broken; clicking on it leads to a 404 error. Would be nice if this could be fixed. Regards Anke
  7. I have four mods installed in my TNG v11. The fourth one, the 'Relationship to Site Owner Mod', doesn't always work, and I don't understand why. Sometimes it does work, and most of the time it doesn't. And what's more, the line that shows this particular Mod in the admin section of TNG, has a different color than the other lines. (please see attachment) Is that supposed to mean something? Then I thought, maybe I set the 'Maximum number of relationships to show.' to a too high number. So I set it to 5, and then opened the page of my grandfather... But this Mod didn't show anything. Tips/tricks/suggestions anyone? //edit: second question... How easy would it be to make this specific feature available only to logged in users, and not to the general public?
  8. Hi I can't find if this question has been asked before, but I was wondering if it would be very difficult/complicated to add Series/Collections to the Census Plus International mod? I would like to add the Icelandic census, which is a bit simpler than the "Other Census" option that is available. Best regards Rakel
  9. I have released Citation Master versions (TNG 10.0.2), (TNG 10.1), (TNG 11.0) and (TNG 11.1). This version adds support for three additional citation fields, _CDSC (database field 'description'), _CTXT (field 'citetext') and _CDTE (field 'citedate'). It also adds a new formatting option, 'format' which can be used with date fields stored in the DB or in custom events. (See the documentation and examples.) Version is compatible with TNG 11.1 and adds support for moving the extensions directory (a TNG 11.0.2 feature). This update is required for users of TNG 11.1 and is optional for TNG 11.0 and 10.X users. Version will be the last update to this mod for TNG 10.0. Please see the Citation Master Wiki page for additional information. Bill Herndon Lindell-Herndon Genealogy
  10. I have released Simple SEO versions (TNG 10.1), (TNG 11.0), and (TNG 11.1) This version corrects an issue where individual's names were being suppressed on certain pages due to a bug in the library code. Displaying person IDs in TNG headers is now supported for the getperson.php page and can be turned on and off using a mod parameter. v11.1.0.4 adds support for TNG 11.1 and the ability to move the extensions directory (a TNG 11.0.2 feature). This version is recommended for all TNG 10.0 through 11.0 users and is required for users of TNG 11.1. Please see the Simple SEO Wiki page for additional information. Broad Search mod

Just a suggestion but before my Partner sees it and she drags me down the church, perhaps the wording "NOTE: Tick 'Broad Search' to include Nicknames, Alternative and Married Names" should be changed to NOTE: Tick 'Broad Search' to include Nicknames, Alternative and Spouse or Partner's Surnames? Pete ps if you try to install latest mod on TNG11.02 it will refuse to install due to an error on Template 12, Mod author has been advised of change needed, if you want a temporary fix (change 5 letters) ping me direct

    Immigration Mod

Hi All, I would love to see an immigration mod similar to the wonderful Census International Mod. The Immigration mod would include the name of the ship, departure place and date and the arrival place and date. I would then love to see a feature like the census mod where you can list family members that are passengers that you can link back to their ID. I hope that makes sense. Regards, Smithy

  14. Have been using the Mouse Wheel Zoom http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Mouse_Wheel_Zoom for Event Maps on the getperson page. On my Wamp system, the event map appears and the zoom works, but a phantom entry with reference to an older version appears thusly in Mod Mgr. The newer version appears in the Mod Listing also, no errors. On my Web test installation, the getperson event map doesn't even appear, though settings are checked, and the same phantom entry appears. On both systems, running the latest mouse wheel version Mod support for this code is in this forum so posting here.Have tried deleting the entry, and making a 'map setting' change in admin, receive these 'warnings': Warning: file(/home/krzmarzick/www/test/mods/mouse_wheel_zoom_v9.0.0.1a.cfg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/krzmarzick/www/test/admin_updatemapconfig.php on line 96 Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/krzmarzick/www/test/admin_updatemapconfig.php on line 100 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/krzmarzick/www/test/admin_updatemapconfig.php:96) in /home/krzmarzick/www/test/admin_updatemapconfig.php on line 114 Again, looks like vestiges of an older version. Anyone else run into this? Not sure what to refresh besides the associated Mod. Ron
  15. For those of you using the TextPlus Charts Mod, you may have noticed, on the Individual page, the Ancestor:Text+ submenu displays a duplicate 'fan chart' tab. The first tab yields a '404' error, and the rightmost one works fine. This happens even with no other Mods installed. In the file pedigreetextplus.php file, In pedigreetextplus.php: commenting out lines 158-163 appears to correct the problem. // #Include the fan chart only if the fan chart URL exists and it hasn't been displayed. // if (!$fanchart_url) { // $fanchart_url = getURL( "fanchart", 1 ); // if ($fanchart_url) // $innermenu .= "<a href=\"$fan_url" . "personID=$personID&amp;tree=$tree&amp;parentset=$parentset&amp;generations=$generations\" class=\"lightlink\">{$text['fanchart']}</a> &nbsp;&nbsp; | &nbsp;&nbsp; \n"; // } It appears that $fanchart_url flag is not set as expected, since $fanchrt_url is true. I've sent a note to the Mod's author Robin Richmond as well. Ron
  16. ** RC1 for NearDark, NearDawn and the installer have been withdrawn. v10.1.0.2 for both templates and the installer are now available. ** Ever wanted to try a 'drop in' replacement for Template 8 that doesn't have all that visual clutter and hard to read fonts? I've just produced v10.1.0.2, release candidate 1 for the NearDark and NearDawn templates and pared them with a new installer that makes the templateconfig.php changes, folds in the menu bar changes that used to be provided by the Icon Gravity mod, and adds localized language files for Spanish (and Spanish-UTF8) Features: Surname clouds that can be controlled from the template configuration page. You can hide/show them and control the number of surnames. The "Mom's Side" and "Dad's Side" elements of the left menu can also be hidden or shown. "Scrolling Content" is a new feature that allows you to switch the main page between fixed height content columns that scroll, and non-scrolling columns that show all your content. (Template configuration page.) Internationalization - NearDark and NearDawn are now fully internationalized with Spanish support provided out-of-the-box as a test case. All New: I've created an installation mod called NearD Support that does all the installation work for you. Just unpack the templates in the TNG's template directory, unpack and install the mod and you should be good to go. One caution, once you start configuring the templates through their configuration page, NearD Support will complain about not being able to roll back the templateconfig.php changes (obviously). So pulling out the NearDark and NearDawn elements in templateconfig.php has to be done manually after the initial install. NearD Support folds in the changes to the menu bar that used to be provided by Icon Gravity. So no need to add that mod any longer. I'll also be adding more languages as I get assistance with the phrases. v10.1.0.2-rc1 of NearDark, NearDawn, and NearD Support should work for TNG 10.1.0 and later, but I've done most of my testing against TNG 11. You can see examples on the Wiki pages for NearDark and NearDawn, but these haven't been updated yet for the new features. If you give these a try, please let me know what you think. Thanks, Bill Herndon

    Mobile and Standard Site Views

TNG offers mobile users a 'switch' button at the bottom of each page (before the footer) to switch between standard and mobile views. I added Ken Roy's very useful Mobile Site Enhancement Mod to improve the mobile view appearance. It looked so good that i thought on occasion it would be nice to have that view available on the PC as well. However, I couldn't find a way to have that happen short of having a link which appends the '?sitever="mobile", and the the switch back to 'standard' appears, but the the switch again to 'mobile' button does not. So, I put the following code into my private Mod but wanted to share it anyone else finds it useful. The code is the same used to set mobile devices back to mobile from standard. Maybe there's another way or better code set the 'site' to mobile, but this works fine for me on all pages, and still works fine on mobile phones as well. I think maybe Darrin could add this code so the option is available on all devices. // modify genlib.php -- give ability to switch to mobile on a laptop %target:genlib.php% %location:% include($cms['tngpath'] . "stdsitecredit.php"); %end:% %insert:before% else { $thispage = getScriptName(false); $thispage = preg_replace('/\??\&?sitever=(mobile|standard|tablet)/',"",$thispage); $con = strpos($thispage, "?") == false ? "?" : "&amp;"; $gotover = "mobile"; $message = $text['switchm']; $footer .= "<p class=\"smaller center\">\n"; $footer .= "<a href=\"$thispage{$con}sitever=$gotover\" class=\"fieldnameback lightlink2 rounded4\">&nbsp;{$message}&nbsp;</a>\n"; $footer .= "</p><br/>\n"; } %end:% Ron TNG 11.0.2 http://www.kmtrees.com wampserver 2.5,legacy 7.5, family historian 6.2.2, win 10 pro
  18. I have released Simple SEO versions (TNG 10) and (TNG 11). The fourth release of this mod adds support for localized family titles on the familygroup.php, familychart.php (TNG 11), suggest.php, edit, and admin pages. Previously, these pages used a random collection of formats to refer to families that included symbols and English words. Simple SEO, normalizes these, adds support for family IDs (controlled by a mod parameter) and localizes the phrases appropriate to the grammar of the 8 supported languages: Danish, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. For example, a family title in Italian would look like: La Famiglia di Robert Boyd Herndon e Tennie May Calhoun (F918) As long as a user is careful to preserve the parameters in the language strings (see the cust_text.php file of any supported language for an example), additional languages can be added locally. (Thanks to Robin Richmond for this suggestion.) The mod still supports adding family titles to the page headers along with all known names of the individuals as meta keyword entries. Date simplification (using bot the 'long' and 'short' formats) and all known names, aliases, married names are still supported for individuals and their page headers. Please see the Simple SEO Wiki page for additional information. This update is recommended for all users of Simple SEO.
  19. All, I have published Simple SEO to my site and am hoping that some intrepid TNG users will help me beta-test this revision to the mod. This version internationalizes the family titles that appear on the Family Group, Family Chart, Suggest and Edit pages; supports internationalized titles in PDF reports; pushes those titles into page headers (in the same manner that simplified dates are added to individual pages); and supports family titles with, and without, IDs. That last feature is controlled by a mod parameter. The approach to localization of titles is a little novel. Since word order is important and is dictated by contemporary grammar, the mod uses PHP classes to provide translation and ordering. The impact is that adding a new language is achieved by adding a new subclass rather than by adjusting the language files. (So...you can't just change or override the chosen translation. Unless you want to modify some code.) I'm open to alternatives to this approach, but it seemed to be the easiest way to get what I wanted. The languages supported are: Danish, English, French, German, Norwegian, PortugueseBR, Spanish, and Swedish. I'll add any additional languages that I can get translations for. Thanks in advance for any assistance with the testing. I plan to publish the mod formally in about a week when I've completed the backport for TNG 10. k/r Bill Herndon

New: Scrollbox mod - Beta release

Hi all, From the Wiki page http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Scrollbox_mod ----------------- Any of the pages that shows an ancestors or descendants diagram will, in high and wide diagrams, "hide" the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the diagram. For many non-Mac users this is annoying as they often only have a vertical scrolling wheel. To scroll horizontally they have to use the scrollbar. So to see a person in the top right corner of a very wide and high diagram, they have to scroll down all the way to the diagram bottom to find the horizontal scrollbar, then scroll right and then scroll all the way up again. This is not very user friendly. This mod creates a box, adapted to the browser window, displaying the diagram and if necessary will add scrollbars. As the scrollbars are connected to the box, not to the page, they are always visible and at hand if needed. ------------------ There is support for all templates including up to five custom and there is also a No Template version. As I use a Mac, I can't test properly (beta...). So please have a look if you are a non-Mac user. Erik

    DNA Mod Manager

After installing the DNA Mod manager "Add DNA test results", version, I get following message when I select "DNA Tests" in the Admin Area or Public Area: An error has occurred in the TNG software. This could be due to a setup issue, an incomplete upgrade or a program bug. If you are the site owner, you may contact TNG support for help with this problem. Please copy the query below and paste it into your message.Query: SELECT testID, test_type, test_date, tng_dna_tests.personID, tng_dna_tests.gedcom, test_number, firstname, lastname, lnprefix, nameorder, suffix, prefix, title, person_name, confirmed, markeropt, notesopt, linksopt, private_dna FROM tng_dna_tests LEFT JOIN tng_people ON tng_people.personID = tng_dna_tests.personID AND tng_people.gedcom = tng_dna_tests.gedcom ORDER BY test_number, test_date LIMIT 50 This message disappears as soon as I uninstall the "Add DNA test results". Can somebody give me an idea how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance! Jan http://www.matruschka.net
  23. Hello all, Suppose you don't have a side-scrolling mouse or pad. Also suppose that you open a very wide and high descendants tree at a TNG site. Much wider and higher than your browser window. To see the rightmost top part of that tree, you first have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the tree to find the horizontal scroll bar. Then you have to scroll to the right and then scroll all the way up again. Maybe to find that you scrolled too far to the right... I have found a way to place scroll bars outside of the visible part of the tree, and adapt the visible part to the size of the browser window. You can see it in action here: (Make your browser only 1200-1300 pixels wide for a good "test environment") https://xerxx.se/descend.php?personID=I36&tree=tredNr2&display=standard&generations=8 If you scroll down with the right-most scroll bar, you will find that the box where the tree is displayed is a bit smaller than your browser window. And you will find a horizontal scroll bar below the box. So now you can scroll right-left without having to go to the bottom of the tree first. So far so good. However! If you hover any of the "more" arrows below the person boxes, the pop-up appears. But... That is only if you have not scrolled the tree in any direction: When you use the scroll bars, the pop-ups lose their orientation and appears at places you don't expect - often outside the visible part. (And that's even worse than having to scroll to the bottom.) So: Is there some coder out there who knows what to do and where, to give the correct coordinates to the pop-ups? I certainly can not do it... Unfortunately (Posted also at tngusers2) Thanks In Advance, Erik
