Use Wordpress media viewer with TNG?

Has anyone experimented with using a WordPress' media viewer rather than the built-in TNG one? I'm wondering if it's possible to essentially swap. WordPress has some more modern looking ones. Curious to hear what you all have accomplished or played with.
  2. Hello! New TNG user here. I've put the media on my computer in folders matching the collections in TNG. I've linked all media in FTM, making sure that the path goes to those folders. I've created the collections in TNG and under "edit" (collection) I've set the local path to match that in the gedcom I've also set the local path under setup > import settings. The media itself is sitting in folders on my server that match the collection titles. However, all media links are somehow coming in as photos. Any advice? Thanks in advance! Edit: I'm being a luddite and put this in the wrong area but can't change it - this is on a server, not a home computer install.
  3. Hello all and hope everyone has had a very Happy Christmas and New Year! I was wondering if anyone may have some ideas on how I might go about having a separate media gallery just for my wife's photography. Something I could integrate into TNG using an iframe, use a third party photography cms on a subdomain, or just get a new domain for it and have a link to it from our TNG site. Your thoughts?
  4. I have released a new mod called What's New after Import. It is intended for admins who frequently import data from PC or Apple computers into TNG via GEDCOM files. This often results in the last modified” time in the TNG database for media, people, and families being equal to the import time, which makes this description less useful. In particular, in the “What's New” tab, the set of new items presented does not correspond to the purpose of this tab. This mod allows you to take into account the last edit time stored in the metadata of media files, rather than in their description in the database. In addition, individuals and families whose description indicates a change time close to the import time are filtered out. The use of this metadata or the description in the database can be switched on an ongoing basis by selecting the appropriate option. The menu also allows you to select the time (age) of the oldest changes to be taken into account and to limit the number of items displayed. The mod has several parameters. They allow you to redefine the list of values used in the age and number menus, the initial values of age and number, and the initial value of the change time source (metadata or database). During data processing, which for a large database may require up to several dozen seconds of server time, a header and spinner are immediately displayed so that a blank screen does not confuse the user. This is a small detail that requires forcing an incomplete page to be sent to the browser - which was a new experience for me. Feel free to try out the mod and post your comments and suggestions for improvement here. If anyone is interested in further details before trying out the mod, I will be happy to provide them. Michał Jarociński Edit: you can see the mod in action in my site: jarocinscy.pl/genealogy/whatsnew.php (the page is public).
  5. TNG 15.0.2 Hello folks, When displaying photo galleries, for example my cemeteries photo gallery, hovering my mouse pointer over the thumbnails, a popup should appear displaying a small preview of that photo. However, for some reason, popups appear for only some of the photos in that (and other) galleries. Anyone have any thoughts as to why the popups appear for only some of the photos, but not for other photos? Thanks in advance. Regards, John

    Unused media

Today, I have uploaded Unused_media_v15.0.2.2 to the TNG Wiki. The changes are to update the style to match TNG v15 (new icons, larger form fields), and the ability to select an item for addition to TNG. I have tested it on my site, but feedback from other users would be useful. Thanks for any comments. Regards, Warren
  7. TNG 15.0.2 Hello, folks, let me clarify... On my previous TNG site (14.0.6), I have many pictures that have many hundreds of people linked to those pictures, spread across 8-10 categories. I do have a copy (backup) of my previous TNG 14.0.6 site, which I ran a 14.0.6-to-15.0.2 upgrade on, so I do have a database from a previous site will all my categories & photos in it, and which the database is compatible withTNG 15.0.2. I installed my TNG 15.0.2 site from scratch, and have been slowly setting up my media on the new site from scratch. It's a slow process, and I've managed to create a few categories manually so far. For you MySQL gurus, is there a way that I can somehow, from that previoussite's tng_media table, export or extract all media items with a specific mediatypeID to a file, and then import all those items into a category on my live TNG 15.0.2 site? As an example, I have a media category on my previous site with a mediatypeID called maps. I wish to import everything in that category into a new (empty) category on my current site with a mediaID that I will call photosmaps when I create it. What I wish to accomplish is to have all the maps from my previous site with all their associated (Linked to) people, imported into my new site, with all the maps & their associated (Linked to) people. And if the above is indeed possible, is it better for me to already have the new category reated on my current site to import the maps (photos) into? Or is it better to not have the maps category created yet, and have the import create it during the import process? Apologies for not explaining that very well, but I hope it makes a little sense. Thank you in advance & have a great day. Regards, John
  8. A) I have a installed Public Access Control on my site, and now I am wondering if this is normal - The Default Photo, which normally replaces the Male or Female icon at the top is not visible - all we see is "Photos (Log In)". Is there a way to maintain the control over our media yet let the default photo Icon be displayed? Would installing the Default Phot Path app resolve that issue? B) Also with Public Access mod, it looks like this affects either the Default Photo only, or the first photo... As per the second picture. Any idea if that can also be fixed? Thanks
  9. TNG 15.0.2 Hello, folks, I am having a heckuva time with my media in TNG 15.0.2, and apologies in advance for all the screenshots ... I created a new media collection with a Display Title of People: ... and successfully uploaded photos to it: I then decided to rename the Display Title to Photos of People, and successfully renamed it: ... and it shows up when choosing a collection: However, on the GetPerson page, it still shows up as the old Photos title instead of the new Photos of People title: So, as a test, I created a temporary new collection and called it Photos for Testing: ... and when I temporarily added a new test photo to that test collection, it displays Photos for Testing title correctly on the getperson page: When I go into phpMyAdmin, under tng_medialinks, I see the correct title in the Display column: I've cleared my (Brave) browser cache, and tried a different browser (Edge) and cleared its cache too, and also purged the entire cache for that domain on Cloudflare. But I can't seem to get the new title of Photos of People to display on the getperson page . Anyone have any idea why this is happening, and how I can fix it? I could just delete that collection & add another collection with a different name, but can't think of another name to use instead. Thanks in advance & have a great day. Regards, John
  10. I am trying to use the Histories collection. Sometimes the content will display normally, other times only the title is displayed. So let's say I go Admin Home > Media > Add New, and try ti create an entry in collection "Histories". And for the sake of the example, I put text in the text box, fill the "Title" box, and click "Save and Continue". On the next page, I will set a media link to persons I1 and I100, and save. If I go to person I1, and click on the Histories link, the text will appear correctly. If I go to person 100, it does not display. Also, the footer is missing! Any idea? See the pictures attached. The first two show that the same text was linked to two individuals, #1 and #100. The third picture shows that for #1, the text appears, the links to all individuals are shown, and the footer is there. Not so much for individual #100, in the fourth picture; no text, no links, and no footer. Same media, two results. Why? WHY????
  11. https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Unused_Media TNG version 15.0.2. The issue is only happening on my online site and not my local site on my Mac...which is what is confusing me. The settings for the mod are the same for both installs. I thought this was possibly a PHP issue as my online website is running PHP v8.4.7 and my local copy of TNG is running under v8.3.14. But I changed my site to v8.3.21 (the only 8.3 option that was available to me) and the issue continued. You can see the problem from the image that I have attached. The Unused Media mod is not only displaying a lot of non-media files, it seems to be going through every folder on my site. I uninstalled the mod and reinstalled it. I also uploaded a complete clean copy of every TNG site file and reapplied my mods...but no luck. I then looked at the files that the mod creates and I found 3 in the extensions folder...unused_media_folder_list.php, unusedmedia.txt and unusedmediatemp.txt. The PHP file locally was considerably shorter (354 lines) than the one online (969 lines). I deleted the online one and allowed the mod to recreate it, but again, same big number (969) of lines in the PHP file online. I note that even the start of the files differ. Here's the start of the local version of the unused_media_folder_list.php file... <?php // Unused Media folder list $d = array(); $d[0] = "documents"; $d[1] = "documents/books"; $d[2] = "documents/census"; $d[3] = "documents/certificates"; $d[4] = "documents/certificates/Birth"; $d[5] = "documents/certificates/Christening-Baptism"; $d[6] = "documents/certificates/Death"; $d[7] = "documents/certificates/Marriage"; $d[8] = "documents/certificates/War-Graves"; $d[9] = "documents/correspondence"; $d[10] = "documents/journals"; And here's the online unused_media_folder_list.php... <?php // Unused Media folder list $d = array(); $d[0] = ""; $d[1] = "/admin"; $d[2] = "/backups"; $d[3] = "/classes"; $d[4] = "/css"; $d[5] = "/documents"; $d[6] = "/documents/books"; $d[7] = "/documents/census"; $d[8] = "/documents/certificates"; $d[9] = "/documents/certificates/Birth"; $d[10] = "/documents/certificates/Christening-Baptism"; $d[11] = "/documents/certificates/Death"; $d[12] = "/documents/certificates/Marriage"; $d[13] = "/documents/certificates/War-Graves"; $d[14] = "/documents/correspondence"; $d[15] = "/documents/journals"; It's adding in folders that I can't understand why? I can't figure out what is going on or what I have done wrong?
  12. TNG versions 14.0.6 and 15.0.1 MySQL version 8.0.39-cll-lve Hello, folks, Firstly, I am aware that when doing upgrades from TNG 14.x to TNG 15.x, a special process needs to be run, to upgrade the database structure from TNG 14.x to TNG 15.x, particularly Step 7 in the TNG 15.x (from v.14.x) Upgrade Installation Instructions. In my situation, I did clean install of TNG 15.0.1 on my test site, and after I configured everything & imported my GEDCOM, I confirmed that everything looked good. I then did a Backup of my TNG 14.0.6 tables on my live site, and then I tried to restore some of those TNG 14.0.6 tables into TNG 15.0.1 on my test site , specifically the following tables: Albums Album Links Album Media Cemeteries DNA Groups DNA Links DNA Tests Image Tags Media Table Media Links Media Types Reports Some of you can already imagine what happened ... in my new TNG 15.0.1 installation, the Cemeteries displayed fine, as did Reports, but any time I tried to display a person, I was presented with the problem query, along with the following: My question is: is there any way that I can manually do something to change whatever needs to be done, so that those specific TNG 14.0.6 tables that I restored into TNG 15.0.1 can be recognized & useable in TNG 15.0.1? It is the upgrade_db14x-15x.php file that actually does the upgrade, but I don't understand anything in that file. Thanks in advance, and have yourselves a great day. Regards, John

    Managing Collections

I'm new to TNG. I have created a new media collection that I now want to delete. I've deleted all of the files from the collection, but cannot figure out how to delete the collection itself. The collection title is still showing up on my homepage under Other Features. Is there a way to delete and remove it? Jim Romine
  14. I have my database working. All my issues before were related to IPAGE.com. Do not use them with TNG 14. Now that I'm loaded, I generated the thumbnails for the 3000+ media files, and they all say ORIGINAL NOT FOUND. Suggestions? Linda
  15. Posted in relation to the following thread: Looking for help with audio files that do not show Apperently mp3, mp4 files etc can be downloaded from within TNG without prior consent of the Admin. Rightclick on the mediaplayer allows you to download the mediafile and in the players options menu (three verticaal dots) there is a download option. In order to prevent users/visitors from downloding these mediafiles you can make a change to the showmedialib.php Change the following line in showmedialib.php echo "<video $widthstr$heightstr controls>\n<source src=\"$mediasrc\">\n</video>\n"; and change it into echo "<video $widthstr$heightstr controls controlsList=\"nodownload\" oncontextmenu=\"return false;\">\n<source src=\"$mediasrc\">\n</video>\n"; This will prevent the rightclick popup to appear and removes the download menu option on the rightside of the player. Don't forget to refresh your webpage/browser cache to see the effect Additional info Make sure you keep record of this change for the changes could very well disappear after the next TNG update/upgrade
  16. Can anyone confirm this before I address Darin? I installed the TNG 14 Patch2 and I noticed that the map is no longer showing on the media edit page. The admin_editmedia.php was updated with the patch2 but I'm not sure if that is the cause of the issue. I'm using OSM and on the person page the map shows just fine.
  17. I have just loaded v 14. None of the Media is linked anywhere yet. I want it to all go in a Media folder and not have any of the other links show up on my page like PHOTOS OR HISTORIES. I have read this, but it's short description on how to do that is greek to me. I'd sure appreciate help! Linda https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php/Import_Media_Using_GEDCOM My site is https://ancestrees.com
  18. Why does index.php import when I'm importing media? Is there a way to stop this?
  19. I searched the Forum and Wiki but No Joy (sorry, I'm binge-watching the old JAG series). I viewed the code for the People page and found it pulled the image from the headstones directory. But the next person pulled the thumb pic from the documents directory. I knew it had to be assigned SOMEWHERE. To change the "thumb" picture for a person, click on MEDIA from the Admin menu. Then -- find the thumb picture you want to display. Click the "edit" icon. -> Scroll to Media Links. Select, if needed, the person that you want to set an image for. THEN ... Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the checkbox "Default Photo". For me, I also click the radio box "Show".
  20. Hello everyone, I have a small problem with creating thumbnails. There are 2 family trees with pictures on my website. Under Setup >> Configuration >> Import Settings, for example, I have the following under "Local Photo Path(s)*:": C:\Users\dared\Documents\Family Tree Maker\KLERC_2023 Media\, C:\Users\dared\Documents\Family Tree Maker\Famous Media\ Thumbnails have been created successfully! I also use the "Admin Media Thumbnails" mod So I have created a "Marriage" category. If I say TNG (under Media), move the image to the Marriage category, the image can no longer be found under the Photos category. OK! But if I now display the Marriage category, the name of the image is displayed, but no thumbnail!!! If I now go to Media >> Thumbnails and want to create thumbnails, this appears... What am I doing wrong??? I would be grateful for any help
  21. TNG 14.0.4 Hello, folks, When I display semi-large photos, TNG displays them formatted to Fit Width. When I select Fit Height, nothing changes. An example of one of these photos can be seen HERE. I was hoping that by selecting Fit Height, that TNG would zoom the picture out (in this case) so that the entire photo can be displayed in the browser, but that is not happening. Is that a bug in TNG? If so, it has been that way for many, many versions. IMHO, I wish that TNG was capable of fitting each large picture so that the entire picture can be seen when a user initially displays any picture. Wouldn't that make sense? I realize that there is other information that TNG displays below each picture (such as title, description, details, etc.), but on initial page entry, the entire photo should be fit to the browser/display's width & height. Just wondering if the Fit Height works for anyone else. Thanks in advance. Regards, John
  22. Hello all. It has been brought to my attention that my site does not auto adjust to different monitor/screen sizes. The attachment is a screenshot from a user who is using a screen size of 2560x1440. I never gave that much thought until now. When I setup my site, I have dual 24" dell monitors @ 1920x1080 using a modified template21. I've changed anything that would pertain to this issue. Is there a way to have my site automatically adjust itself for different screen sizes?
  23. Hello, folks, I have been trying for days to put tags on one of my pictures, but something is going wrong. I draw the outline on the picture, then I select the person's i number, and then I click on Save and Exit. No problem so far, but when I try to look at that picture, TNG is hanging... it just stays indefinitely on Loading... for weeks: I can view all other media items on my site, just not this one that I'm trying to put tags on. Has anyone ever experienced this problem? Thanks in advance & have yourselves a great day. Regards, John
  24. TNG 14.0.4 Hello, folks, When I add media to my TNG site, I am given the choice of placing media items into Categories (either the categories that come with TNG, or I can create new categories to put the media in). I understand that, and have been using categories for years. But TNG also has something called Albums, which I have never used before (and know absolutely nothing about ). I don't mean external albums (such as X3 and Piwigo, etc.), but TNG's built-in albums. Can anyone who uses both explain briefly the differences between categories & albums, and how they're used, please? If anyone who uses both AND has an open site (in other words, does not require logging-in to see items in their site's categories and albums)... that would be great. Thank you in advance & have yourselves a great day. Regards, John
  25. TNG 14.x Hello, folks, When we display browsemedia.php (by selecting All Media, Documents, Photos, etc.), over in the Linked to column, by default TNG displays perhaps a maximum of about a dozen or so individuals for each media item. If more than that number of individuals are linked to a media item, TNG displays ['More Links'] after the last person, which when clicked on takes the user to the actual media item (showmedia.php), with more individuals listed in the details near the bottom in that page's Linked to section. Sometime earlier this year or last year, someone told me how to increase the number of individuals in the Linked to column for each media item. An example of the increased number of individuals linked can be see here on THIS page. If you look at the 4th media item (Paget) on that page, notice that I have 81 individuals listed. However, I need to drastically increase the number of individuals linked, but my problem is that I can't remember where to make that change, nor who was the person in the forums that told me how to do that . I've searched the forums here, my PMs, and my personal email, but I am unable to find where I was told what to change. And I don't think that it is a Mod on my site that has increased that number. So my 1st question is: what file do I modify, and exactly what in that file do I modify, in order for browsemedia.php to display more individuals in the Linked to column? Now, I just noticed for that same 4th media item on that page, that although browsemedia shows the first 81 individuals before the ['More Links'] is displayed, the showmedia.php page for that same 4th media item shows the next 54 individuals linked to that 4th media item, and the users needs to keep pressing ['More Links'] to see the next group of individuals, etc. So my 2nd question is: where is it defined to only show on the showmedia.php page 54 individuals at a time, as I would like to be able to change it so that showmedia.php shows all of the remaining individual linked to each media item... if possible. Thank you in advance, and have yourselves a great day. Regards, John
