Seeking **paid remote assistance** from someone experienced with **The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding (TNG)** and standard PHP/MySQL hosting. My TNG website is my main family history archive, with many branches, photos, documents, and written histories. The live site is hosted with **EASYSolutions** using **cPanel with Softaculous**, phpMyAdmin, and File Manager/FTP. TNG is running there now and the site is actively managed, including backups and file downloads, but server and database work are outside my comfort zone. On my end, a **Mac Studio (M3 Ultra, 4 TB SSD, 68 GB RAM)** is available, and the goal is a **fully working local copy** of the TNG site on this Mac, plus a clear archive (files + SQL backup + short README) that family or a future host could restore on another server. ## Current local setup MAMP’s Apache, PHP, and MySQL are installed and working, matching what TNG needs for a local copy. - A working local web server at `localhost:8888` (Apache + PHP). - A working MySQL server with known connection details: host `localhost`, port `8889`, user `root`, password `root`. I need someone to: 1) Export the full TNG MySQL database and download all TNG application and media files using cPanel/phpMyAdmin/File Manager (or equivalent tools on the host). 2) Install and configure this TNG copy under MAMP on the Mac Studio so that the site runs locally with working media, histories, and admin functions. 3) Create a README describing the archive contents and explaining how to restore the site to another web server in the future (including database import and config updates). Work will be **remote with screen sharing** (Zoom or TeamViewer (preferred, already installed)), and the preference is to complete this **as soon as possible**. Hello! New TNG user here. I've put the media on my computer in folders matching the collections in TNG. I've linked all media in FTM, making sure that the path goes to those folders. I've created the collections in TNG and under "edit" (collection) I've set the local path to match that in the gedcom I've also set the local path under setup > import settings. The media itself is sitting in folders on my server that match the collection titles. However, all media links are somehow coming in as photos. Any advice? Thanks in advance! Edit: I'm being a luddite and put this in the wrong area but can't change it - this is on a server, not a home computer install.

Hello, I'm getting the following error message from admin.php > Setup > Diagnostic. All listed files are set at 664, and all folders are set at 775. Does anyone have any ideas about what I might be able to do to make this work? Thanks!

Seems like a new issue specific to my 15.0.1 installation. The right icons are not displayed anywhere, either on the Admin panel or the public side. I have only these generic placeholders everywhere. I reinstalled this newest version and still have the issue - I have no idea where to look next.

Hello everyone, As you upgrade to TNG v15, there is no need to remove your site from the Sites Using table on mods that are now marked Obsolete with TNG v15 so we do not lose the history on who was using a given mod. The site using table includes a mod version and TNG version column. If you are upgrading to a new version of TNG, you can simply leave your information in the Sites Using table as it was before the upgraded to a newer version. If a mod is marked Obsolete, the information is essentially being archived. I initially changed some of the page to Protected to prevent users from removing their sites but it was pointed out that prevents users of TNG 14 from updating those pages to show they are using the mod. Several users always choose to remain one version behind the current TNG version. Thanks,

As of today there is an Installation & Setup instruction for TNG available in Dutch. It's intended for TNG15 but will work for earlier versions of TNG too. You can find them at the TNG Download page under TNG Extras. Any comments or remarks are welcome.

One of the two trees I uploaded is not linking people together properly. I tried reloading the file and having it only replace anything new. That didn't help. So I tried doing a complete reinstall. That created duplicate persons and didn't completely install. I would like to delete the pedigree folder and start over but the pedigree folder is no where to be found. Would you delete everything in the file completely and start over from scratch? Where is the pedigree folder hiding so I can just delete that? Thanks much, Linda

Hello! I’ve completed the installation steps and I can see the content when I’m in the admin view but if I view the homepage the site is just a white page. I use Bluehost and I had Wordpress but uninstalled it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Home PC install Linux O.S. - Debian 12.1 Web service - XAMPP for Linux version 8.2.4 TNG - Full Install, version 14.02 After installing XAMPP, Started the TNG Installation Instruction, getting error on step 3, Set permissions. Had a list in red of files and folders, about 10 each, with error message of "Permissions could not be set for these files". The permissions were changed to the listed permission, still seeing the error. Looking at the files, both owner and group is root. The admin acccount that I use to login, is not root. Should the file owner and group be changed to match my admin account ? First time setting up Web server and TNG. Jim

Hello all, I just upgraded from version 9x to v14. It has been a challenge but I think I have it mostly working. However, when an image is to display, like a thumbnail it looks like a broken link. If I copy the image location and open it in another tab of the same browser, it displays. My site is https://www.myheap.com/windsor/ And if you go to https://www.myheap.com/windsor/browsemedia.php you can see the issue I am having. I am running v14.0.4 of the software. Dear Community maybe someone has experience with this or can help me with the problem, thanks During the first update from 13.1.1 to 13.1.2. I had forgotten to uninstall the MODs. My fault. When updating again, the instructions in the README file have now been followed exactly, I get the following error messages with a GEDCOM export. Everything else seems to work without problems as far as I can see. first and second error message 1. Just upgraded TNG to v14.0.4 from v14.0.3. All Mods were uninstalled BEFORE the upgrade. Pulled down any available Mod updates, including Sosa v13.0.1.11c, and all but Sosa update installed correctly. I deleted v13.0.1.9b using the Mod Manger and then copied the "sosa_11c" folder and the "sosa_mod_v13.0.1.11c.cfg" to the Mods folder and get the message that it cannot be installed. I restored my "sosa_mod_v13.0.1.9b.cfg" to the Mods folder and get the following I then installed v13.0.1.9b and get this... How do I upgrade to v13.0.1.11c?

Have just successfully upgraded from TNG 13 to TNG v14.0.3 - apart from not being able to re-install Census Plus International. I downloaded the zip file for Census Plus v14.0.0.13a and copied the files in the normal way to the mods directory. It showed up as "Cannot Install" within Mod Manager. I have tried re-downloading and re-copying, I have uninstalled the other mods installed and started with Census +, but still the same problem. I do not have Alternate Spellings installed. The diagnostics show as at the end of this post. Any help please? Does anyone know where to find the place (map/php....) where tng makes the difference between the pages for different users: administrator shows this inlogpage, editor shows that, user ......

I'm having alot of problems moving my TNG 13.0.1 to a new host. I've read the few posts on the subject, including a 2009 file with instructions. Progress, but still not running. And FYI, I've learned enough to stumble through occasional issues like this, but I'm definitely not very experienced in this level of troubleshooting. Current status: When I point my browser to the TNG directory, I get some components. (Screenshot attached.) When I look at the page source code, there's a lot of code (that apparently isn't working). When I look at the Navigator console (?) it begins with lots of timeout errors related to doesAppNeedPin. But that's all beyond me. What I've done: 1) From the current working site: downloaded a copy of my entire tng directory and a backup of my sql database. 2) Uploaded the entire tng directory to my new site with same tng directory name. 3) Opened readme.html in browser from my new tng directory. [As an aside, because of problems getting this setup procedure to work, I 3a) set new site php version to the same as on my current working site: 7.4 . 3b) Removed from my top level htaccess file the list of order of precedence for searching for an initial file (like index.html) to execute.] 4) Created a new sql database on my new host. 5) Seemed to successfully execute setup in readme for permissions, folder names, character set and connecting to my new database. This is where I'm stuck. Per the 2009 instructions, "After creating the TNG tables, you can skip the rest of the installation." If I create the TNG tables (seems successful), then import the sql database, the import immediately aborts with an error message that the very first table, tng_addresses, already exists. So I import the sql database first, then try to "create the database tables. This process seems to get stuck, as the "Please wait, attempting to process..." status does not go away. When I point my browser to the tng directory, I get the screenshot. 6) I asked Hostinger for help, but they basically said all that I've tried (their kb article helped me troubleshoot, so far) and said to ask TNG tech support. I could try a clean install, but I'll lose my users and current configuration and I don't know whether that will be successful, either. Any suggestions? Thanks. Mike

Good morning fellow TNG users. I just did a fresh full install of TNG v. 14.02 and while importing media, I see there is Nno Generate Thumbnails option in admin -> media -> thumbnails. What's the deal with that? Anyone else run into this?

Hello TNG Community, I'm reaching out again for assistance with my TNG installation. After resolving initial issues where the index.php file did not respond to any inputs by re-uploading the installation files, I could complete steps 1-5 of the installation. However, I encountered a problem with setting permissions for the 'backups' and 'gedcom' files (755 / rwxr-xr-x) and was advised to set these manually. I continued with the installation and got stuck on the "create tree" step. The system has been showing "Please wait, processing..." for an extended period. Furthermore, I'm now encountering a database error stating: "In TNG ist ein Fehler aufgetreten. Abfrage: SELECT * FROM mediatypes ORDER BY ordernum, display. Table 'u711923454_wurzeln.mediatypes' doesn't exist." This error appeared after I tried to move past the 'create tree' step. Hello TNG Community, I am reaching out in hopes of finding support for some issues I've encountered during the installation and configuration of TNG on my website. Permission Issues: I have been attempting to set permissions for certain files and folders as per the installation guide, but unfortunately, my attempts seem to have no effect. When I try to change the permissions through the user interface, the button does not respond, and there is no visible change. Settings Saving Issues: I'm experiencing difficulties in saving settings such as renaming folders or selecting the language. The changes do not seem to persist. I'm not sure if this is related to the aforementioned permission issues. Database Connection: I have set up a MySQL database, but I am uncertain whether the connection between the database and TNG is functioning correctly. I am relatively new to web development and would greatly appreciate any support or advice. Perhaps some of you have had similar experiences or could offer troubleshooting tips. I updated my TNG from V12.x to V14.x because my domain hosting went from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.0 and above. I have followed the update manual carefully, but now when I click on my administrator page (admin.php) the page remains white and there is nothing to read or to click. My homepage itself seems to display all the information correctly. What is going wrong here, what have I done wrong and what needs to be done to solve this problem?

Is it the WordPress sidebar displaying on TNG pages? I normally don't use a sidebar when setting up my theme in WP (Astra theme). I always set it up to use full screen....just curious.

Hey everyone. I've moved my localhost server from my main pc to my older Dell Optiplex and wanted to take a little survey as to what you guys and gals are using for you home server. 1. Are you using Windows or Linux? Currently I'm using Windows 11 pro. 2. Which WAMP or LAMP are you using? I was using Wampserver x64 on my Windows machine. I am helping a friend with an installation of TNG 14. His gedcom files contain TITL tags, and when you select a person in TNG, the titles show up in front of the names (e.g., Dr. med. so-and-so). Can that be suppressed, so that titles are shown only as events/properties? Henning, Copenhagen
