I am helping a friend with an installation of TNG 14. His gedcom files contain TITL tags, and when you select a person in TNG, the titles show up in front of the names (e.g., Dr. med. so-and-so). Can that be suppressed, so that titles are shown only as events/properties? Henning, Copenhagen

hello forum, In order to be able to carry out a controllable and as complete as possible GEDCOM import, a log file of the rejected tags would be useful. Many other programs output messages with the following content after the import process is complete: Import from My_gedcom_file.ged from 11/11/2023 Read #99999 rows 8888 lines accepted 9999 rows rejected 99 people 99 families 99 sources 99 notes 99 media 99 places successfully imported. Details can be found in the log file "Import.log" The log file could be stored in TNG's GEDCOM directory. and have the following structure, for example: Log file for importing My_gedcom_file.ged from 11/11/2023 99999 rows read 8888 lines accepted 9999 rows rejected ================================================== ========= Line 345 reject "Line Text" Line 541 reject "Line Text" Line 712 reject "Line Text" End of log file Please check whether this idea can be implemented. In order to be able to check or improve the import process, it would be helpful to receive a log file about the import process. Unfortunately I can't find any. Where is such a file, where can I find it? Thank you Johannes Addition on 14.8.2023 Interesting: no reaction so far..... Does anyone have trouble importing a GEDCOM file (I can't believe this!)? I miss hints which GEDCOM tags and their combinations are rejected by the omput routine. In the case of address data (line1 and line2), I was lucky enough to find out that the pairing ADDR in connection with CONT is not accepted by the routine, but that the tags ADR1 and ADR2 must be used. Unfortunately, there seem to be several TAGS and their combinations that the import routine does not accept. A reference to this in a log file or something similar would be very helpful. I would be grateful for an answer/opinion from the forum users. <g> John

Hello everyone, since I updated to 14.02, the import of the gedcom file doesn't work, either not at all or hangs (it takes several hours) Now he had finally made it, but I can see in the family tree that he is empty!!! The import window says the import is complete. See the pictures! Can someone help me with this problem? Thanks in advance...

I recently upgraded our site from v11.1.2 to v14 and everything appears to be working well apart from the import/export function. When I try to upload a Gedcom file I just get the spinner which goes on for ever, but when I try to download a file I get the attached error and clicking the “resume” link leads to a similar error. I tried going through the database structure part of the upgrade again, via the readme file, but this doesn’t alter the error. The situation is also confused by my webhost recently upgrading the SQL database from MariaDB 10.3 to MariaDB 10.6 and I don’t know if this is affecting the import/export function. Hello everyone, I have two suggestions/requests regarding the What's new and Most Wanted information. What's new: (Solved: see further down the thread)) Adding a dropdown menu offering the user the choice to see the newly/changed informattion over the last 30, 60 or 90 days. Most wanted: On the person page add a new tab with the name Most wanted. The tab contains all the information regarding that person that is still missing and/or needs further research or investigation. The text should be entered as free text with the possibblity to format the entered text in font, color, style etc. just as in @Michel KIRSCH his Nicedit_media_description. The information on the Most wanted tab should be incorporated in the GEDCOM export and import. Last but not least the text should be printable as pdf or plain text. Printing and editing of the Most wanted information should be in accordance with the user rights policy's for each user. In essence this would likely result in two separate mods. Any further questions, advise or ideas are of course welcome.

I currently have a problem uploading GEDCOM files to our site and this may be in some way related to some of the issues faced by others on this forum. The last GEDCOM I uploaded to our public tree was on 23 Feb. I received the following from our host last week: We will be upgrading the MySQL version on the shared server euk5.eukhosting.net from MariaDB 10.3 to MariaDB 10.6. This upgrade is scheduled on 23rd, March at 6:00 AM (off business hours). MariaDB 10.6 Features: 1. Numerous performance improvements for high-concurrency load and performance data structures. 2. Scalability and performance improvements to global data structures. 3. The Information Schema uses much less memory when you select from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES or any other table with many VARCHAR or TEXT columns. 4. Added various new system variables and SQL syntaxes. 5. Bundled sys_schema, a collection of views, functions, and procedures to help administrators get insight into database usage. All the user and admin functions appear to be working apart from the GEDCOM upload which I only discovered this morning after upgrading our members area tree to v14. That upgrade appears to have gone well with everything working apart from one mod and the GEDCOM upload, which therefore must be connected with the host’s MySQL upgrade. I’ve tried (a) uploading to an existing tree and (b) into an empty test tree and neither work. The GEDCOM files do appear in my GEDCOM folder in the c panel and I’ve tried uploading them from there as well, but no success. There appears to be a mismatch between the versions of php in the control panel. I would appreciate any help from anyone who might be able to help.

I'm new to TNG -WP integration and have got the basics working ok on my site at blencowe.one-name.net I was wondering before I spend too much time fiddling with my Gedcom exports from Find My Past exports Has it in Forum users experience proven reliable? I ask this because, after a test upload of a family, I find FMP has attached a stray person (diff surname, etc) to the test family. On inspecting the profiles of family members in FMP there is no obvious link. Also wonder if this is FMP or TNG issue. Any experience that is similar or views on FMP gedcoms, welcome.

Hi Everyone! I am getting maybe 20% of my gedcom with media/medialinks and photos/associated medialinks appearing in TNG. For example I might get my mom's marriage cert in event and in photos get her house she grew up in, but no profile, and 8 other event photos, and at least 20 in the photo section of various photos of her and census records, etc. On the other hand her mother has all showing in the correct place 100% complete. I have done imports of : FTM2019 (Gedcom)===>TNG ANC===>RM (Gedcom)===>TNG ANC===>RM (Tree)===>FH (Gedom w/plugin for TNG)===>TNG all with the same results. In the interface for RM, FH, the individual page, etc all look correct, and when I checked the medialinks and associated medialinks they were all correctly there and linked to the correct image/filenames. Each time I have prepped before importing a gedcom to TNG by: 1. utilities =>optimize/backup all tables 2. setup =>created tables 3. utilities=>restore all tables EXCEPT address, children, citation, families, events, media, medialinks, notes, notelinks, people and repositories. I just recently updated my website to v.13.1.2. I uploaded an updated Gedcom file from Ancestry and received the following message: 'Import could not be resumed. It may have already finished.' I then checked one my own record info on the website and found the record info was not updated by the Gedcom file. Any feedback on what is wrong, ie, why the Gedcom file apparently does not update records on the website after uploading?

UPDATE: The Help page for the Media>Thumbnails tab tells me that the GD extension for PHP is required. It had been working for the past year and a half, so something has gone off. My server includes a WordPress component which includes a photo plugin. That plugin gave me an error message that it requires the GD extension for PHP as well. Not sure what has happened but I am trying to fixed that GD extension, and hopefully that will solve this issue. Original Post I am running TNG ver. 13.1.1 on a raspberry Pi (Model 3B+; Buster OS version). Once or twice every month I upload a refreshed Gedcom along with new media. The last such update before today was Decemeber 13. Today I added a couple hundred new people and a batch of new media. The Gedcom import went fine, but when I went to the Media>Thumbnails tab to create thumbnails for the latest documents, I found he Generate button is missing from the tab. The media is there, but ALL media Thumbnails seem to have disappeared from the people records! Anyone have any thoughts as to what is happening here? Thanks, David T

I think I screwed up when I imported my GEDCOM a few weeks ago. All media ended up in /photos and none are linked. Is there ANY way to correct this without having to do over 3,000 files one at a time? Signed ... Hopeful Nana

I have two gedcoms. My original one I stated from TNG software and one I downloaded from Ancestry.com. I only want one to show on my site. Seems like they have both combined. Is there any way I can do this?

I recently added, accidentally via a gedcom, a large number of photos that I now wish to remove from TNG. How do I go about that?

Hello all. Here's my issue. I have to reinstall tng on my localhost after a PC rebuild. I have a gedcom from my live site that I'll use to import to the local site. I have media and Geo data attached to individuals on the live site. What would be the proper way for me to import all this data to the local site without having to manually re-do everything? Gedcom? Database? both? Thanks.

The Custom Events types imported via GEDCOM need to editing to a better "abbreviation" for want of a better word. Can this be done? If so, how? Some custom events may need to be merged as well. Lynda Peach

Recently my web hosting service was taken over by another one (VentraIP). Everything has been working fine until I tried to update my family tree with the latest gedcom. I see others have had similar problems in the past. I'm running TNG 13.1.2 and PHP is 7.4. I tried loading the gedcom directly into the gedcom folder. The update starts, but seems to be in a read loop. www.philiphunt.com

Hello, everyone, after the update to 13.1 b2 I can no longer import Gedcom! Even a Gedcom file with one person no longer works! I always have the same import window and nothing happens! What do I do now ??? Please help me!!!

Hello again, as i said in my last post i'm Mine and just joined the TNG13 users (https://stories-through-time.de/) Up till now i used Heredis 2021 as the software for my genealogy. There i set the people, sources and media as private that should be private. When i import the gedcom into tng this "private" flag is imported as a custom event with the value "privacy" and the person/media/source is not set as private. It actually creates 2 identical custom events, one linked to people and one linked to sources, but none for media. So i've been wondering what to do... As i understood it, if the media is linked to a living person and the user is not permitted to watch living people the media won't be shown. Did i understand that correctely? But then does this work with the private flag as well? I thought about using a SQL command to set everything with that custom event as private but i'm a bit scared to smash the db with the wrong command since i don't have a clue about SQL... And since there are quite a few jpegs which are private but the source its linked to is not (because i dont have publishing rights or don't want the scans to be shown, stuff like that) i still have the problem with the media. Still it would be better to set all the media as private and correct the ones which are not private manually, than to do it the other way.... Can anyone help me with this? Thanks! Mine P.S. Hi, I hope someone here can help me. I have now tried many times following various descriptions in Notepad++. Unfortunately, I have so far not succeeded in either of my two problems. My first problem is that I want to change this line here: 1 NAME Steen Steensen /Blicher (Blicher)/ to this one here: 1 NAME Steen Steensen /Blicher/ (Note: Without the parentheses and the name inside the parentheses.) My second problem is that I want to split this line here: 2 SURN Blicher (Blicher) So, it becomes two lines looking like these here: 2 SURN Blicher 1 CAST Blicher (Note: The last one without the parentheses.) I have a large genealogical file with 470,000 people, and there are many of these changes in it. So, if it is possible to do the changes at "once" times, it would be so great. PLEASE NOTE I AM VERY DUMB WITH THIS Please can anybody assist me with the media, im struggling and cant make out how to add all from gedcom or must i add one by one?

I installed a 2nd tree via the "Trees" tab where I created a new tree. Then I went to import and successfully imported the 2nd tree. What I really want is the link to get to a pedigree chart for person number 1 in my "greentree" tree file which is my 2nd tree I just added. Does someone know what code I'd use to do that? Thank you.
