Pictures of sources from Legacy 7.5

Hi Forum,

New to the Forum and TNG so please be patient with me :-)

Bought TNG 3 days ago and already got it set up running beautifully online except one thing!

My setup is Legacy (7.5) on Windows PC where all editing is done and then plan on regular exports via gedcom to online TNG where no editing will take place.

I've go 5K individuals in Legacy and on most of them I got at least 1 picture of a source (often a page from a church-book), and on many of the individuals I got several pictures of sources.

My problem is that when I do an update (Legacy -> GEDCOM -> TNG) then I Would of course like TNG to be able to display the pictures of these source but that doesn't happen.

I've no problems with "standard" photos of individuals - path is setup correct and I've of course triple-checked that all my pictures (regardless of belonging to an individual or a source) is FTP'ed to the online TNG site.

My guess is that it has something to do with how the picture of the source is tagged in the gedcom file, but I can't figure out how to deal with that?

Below is 2 snippets from the same gedcom file - the first of a picture on an individual which displays nicely online after being imported to TNG. The second snippet is from a picture of source registered on the same individual in Legacy:

I think (but is not sure at all) that the my problem is laying somewhere among those lines in the gedcom, and of course I notice the difference in "1 OBJE" / "3 OBJE" and also on the number 2 or 4 at the start of each line, but I'm lost at how to deal with this.

Maybe someone else also uses Legacy (and registers pictures of sources in there as well) and have TNG set up to use/display these - if so I would be glad for any hints that could lead me to getting my sources displayed online ???

I seem to have a similar issue. We used to have all of our photos in one folder in Legacy and on TNG, but we ran into an issue where the "Photos" folder has too many items in it and when listing its contents, times out. We were told by our Host provider (G0daddy) that we need to separate the files in sub folders. When we do that the GED com is exported correctly, but TNG still looks in the one folder. So, I ask a simiar question; how can we have photos in different subfolders, without manually making the changes in TNG?

Yes, you can use sub-folders with TNG.

You would need to set up the sub-folders on your PC and get Legacy to understand what the new paths to the images are. I don't know if Legacy has a tool that would do this in one hit for all your images or not (Reunion for Macintosh can track images and keep them linked if you move them around in the folder, and even if you rename them).

Once Legacy knows where all the images are now stored, create a new GEDCOM of your entire file.

In TNG you'd need to delete all Media items, and then import the GEDCOM file using the Replace All setting.

Subfolders is NOT the issue here.

I have several subfolders in my "photos" folder and all the pictures of/belonging to individuals are displayed perfectly - I just followed this guide to set that up: http://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Media_-_Import

My problem is that I would like to have the pictures of the sources registered in Legacy to show up in TNG !!!

Hmmm ..... Maybe I'm the only one wanting to display the pictures of sources?

Is there anyone out there using Legacy with the same problem, or how did You solve this?

Do you have the pictures attached to the source record in Legacy?

Here is an example that works for me;

Hi Jay,

yes, I have the pictures attached to the source records in Legacy (and they'r eavailable online with the correct path as well)!

Can You elaborate on how a tag looks in Your gedcom for at picture of a source

Could this be something regarding to what standard TNG template I've used for the layout of my site?

I've tried several of these, and now I'm using the standard template no. 5 which i think looks nice, but looking at Your site I also notice another issue ..... the data for census is not showing up at all on my site. Do I have to do something in TNG to setup this - or is it maybe behaving this way because I entered the census' the "wrong way" in Legacy ?

It sounds like the issue is not that you want the image to show up with the source, but rather the citation. Unfortunately, TNG does not support showing images with citations. I have been using a workaround for this. To display images in source citations, I use a snippet of HTML within the source detail notes (added in Legacy) which uses an iframe to display the picture. You can see an example of it here: http://www.ourfamilyhistories.org/getperso...483&tree=00.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Bryan
