County Outlines Mapping

Recommended Posts

Rob van Rij

I recently installed the County Outline Mapping MOD.

I like it very much however there are only county files for US/Canada and England.

Does anybody uses this mod and have county files for Netherlands and other countries?

Or is there an easy way to extract the county files from Google earth or another tool.

At this moment the only way to get these file is by creating a polygone in Google earth and save it as a KML file.

I also discovered that kml files are not shown in IE8!

Let me add my observation that Google Maps now includes county outlines, at least when you search for "xxxx County yyyystate" I don't see that when I search through the map interface in TNG. I wonder if that's restricted by my license with Google.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I would also like to know.

Google Maps does this with municipalities:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Gatlinburg,+TN&t=m

as well as counties:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Sevier+County,+TN&t=m

state:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=TN&t=m

and country:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=US&t=m

From what I can tell, it is the q and the t parameter that makes this happen. Unfortunately, they automatically include points of interest that you can't suppress as far as I can tell.

Anyway, this sort of falls apart for us when we add more than one geocordinate. If you have a pin for the municipality within a county what should it display?

Another issue is the historical boundary. Of course I see Google addressing this down the road as seen with their historical satellite feature.

Is there any way you can make the outlines show for TNG V10.

If Google maps already has it in their API it seems that TNG should be able to incorporate this itself and Darrin can just add a config for it.

Allen,

The County Outline Mod was a mod that was provided in TNG V8 using the V2 of the Google Maps API but that has never been updated to V3 of the Google Maps API.

I used to use the mod, but don't know javascript sufficiently to figure out how to upgrade the old version of the mod to work with Google Maps API v3 especially since some of the capabilities used in the mod disappeared in V3 of the API. So NOT the mod will not work in TNG V10 since it did not work in TNG V9.

This would be an excellent addition to V10

I'm tired of seeing the globe symbols next to locations thatI can only get to the county level

This Mod would also allow the State to be outlined correct?

Again removing the glow next to State locations.
