#1203 - User already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections

This morning I tried to upload a Gedcom to my TNG in order to import it. Because it was taking too long I cancelled the operation, uploaded the Gedcom to my gedcom folder and then tried importing it in the Admin screen. At this point my computer crashed and now that I've sorted that out I can no longer access either my site or my 'phpMyAdmin' screen. My website says : Error: TNG is not communicating with your database. Please check your database settings and try again.

When I try to access my database via phpMyAdmin I get this message: #1203 - User web137-gen2 already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections.

Any ideas anyone?

Paul :(

You'll probably need to contact your host's support desk for this - maybe your site has too many processes running that won't complete.

I had the something similar happen to me recently. The host had to reset the database, then everything worked fine.

Thanks Bryan - actually this is the second time in the last few weeks that I've experienced this. If it happens again I think I'll considering switching Internet Hosts.....

I have now had a response from my Internet Host. www.x9internet.com -

Hello Paul

Yes, I'm afraid so. The criminals are using your account illegally and

maliciously.

As soon as the vendor plugs a hole, the criminals find another. Details

about sites which use insecure software is normally circulated or sold over

the Internet and once they know your site is using this application, it will

be bookmarked and they will be back, as soon as a new hole has been

announced.

But I cannot say for certain that this new break-in was as a result of a new

hole in the software. You may have downloaded an infected file the last time

this happened, and uploading this file into the restored account may have

allowed the criminals to continue.

I recommend you contact the vendor for help in this matter and then let us

know what fixes the vendor recommends.

Really sorry about this, but this is totally out of our hands.

Regards

Alex

Just a thought but it does not follow that TNG is the problem here. A while ago 3 websites I look after were hacked into, but some others weren't. The common denominator was that i used dreamweaver & ipswitch FTP on just the 3 sites that were hacked and my ISP suggested that due to a flaw in either of these products, or something else that was running on my PC, a hacker was able to obtain the site passwords, which were stored in dreamweaver & Ipswitch. This was despite my using AV & firewalls.

It might be an idea to check all the software on your PC etc is up to date and not to store any site passwords in cache etc, just in case its something on your PC thats the week link.

I am in the process of switching hosts myself. I had a number of problems recently - all related to the host, so I have happily found someone else, although the transition is a lot of work.

Hi Bryan

Its reassuring to learn that I'm not the only one! I have now changed my domain name, and moved to a host who specialise in hosting genealogy sites (and recommend TNG!) - http://familyhistoryhosting.uk.com/.

As you say, the transition is a lot of work - although I'm using it as an opportunity to change the template and strip the old site down to the bare essentials. There's always a danger with TNG that you end up spending more man(or woman) hours on the structure/look than on the content! I had a number of extra features added, but having had time to reflect I realise that the maintenance of those detracted from the real reason for the site - researching and displaying the history of my family! lol

The annoying part for me is that I also have to rebuild my Wiki! Everything is of course backed up on my laptop... thankfully!
