Linking to individual TNG pages

I have been testing the joomla bridge and am very happy with the basic functionality.

One feature I am missing is the ability to link to indivirual TNG pages or media items from a joomla menu or from within joomla content. Is there a way of achieving this?

Thanks

Dennis

I would like to know too.

Can I link directly to eg. the statistics page in TNG so that it shows within the Joomla wrapping?

Thanks,

Kenneth

This is probably something you may get better response on at cmsgenealogy.com

But the following may help:

You can create a Joomla menu with several direct links to TNG pages. These links will display the appropriate page much like selecting from within TNG. The way I do it in the new bridge is as follows:

1) Statistics Page - create a menu item with Type of External Link and then populate the Link information with something like the following:

http://your-site.com/index.php?option=com_...url=browsetrees where on my site the bridge component is item #148 - which you can find by looking in the Mainmenu area for the ItemID of your Bridge Menu in the far right column.

Of interest with the Statistics Page, if you have multiple trees, the statistics that will be displayed will be for the Tree(s) that the specific user is authorized to see.

2) For other TNG functions, such as the Register Report for an individual, the tree must be specified in the menu link you create - for example:

http://your-site-com/index.php?option=com_...p;generations=4

where same Bridge ItemID applies (148 on my site), along with the personID, tree and number of generations. When you have more than one tree, it gets more tricky in how to create the menu item. If you use the guest option to have a public tree, then that link will only work for guests, or others that are linked to the public tree. If a logged in user that is assigned to a specific tree - e.g. tree1 - then that guest link to public tree will not work and you will get a 404 error. At least that is how it is working now in RC1.5.

Often you can just copy the URL of the desired page from the TNG display, and then paste it into an individual menu link, or link in a custom module.

The old iFrame bridge of Joe's you would often have to substitute "&" in place of "&" in the second and subsequent & codes used in your menu item. This appears to be less of a problem with the new bridge.

Thank you, Tom, for your reply. I am sorry I have not seen it until now (I guess I had given up making TNG play with either Joomla or Wordpress ...)

When I put ...=com_tngbridge... in the link i keep getting a 404.

I have a testsite running at http://gentest3.kilokilokilo.dk/ with TNG accessible via http://gentest3.kilokilokilo.dk/index.php?...ng&Itemid=2

http://gentest3.kilokilokilo.dk/index.php?...ge&Itemid=2 gives a 404

http://gentest3.kilokilokilo.dk/index.php?...url=browsetrees just leads to main page of TNG

What am I missing?

regards,

Kenneth

Glad to be of assistance... Just be aware though that the current bridge only works with TNG 7.1.3 and Joomla 1.5. I have not heard of any status on plans that will upgrade the bridge in the near future to TNG 8 nor Joomla 1.7.
