Frederick Humphreys
Greetings, I'm a new guy here. Ken Roy
bobbyfamilytree,I believe it is run by Darrin Lythgoe, who brings us TNG. You can write to him at darrin@lythgoes.net.ArnoldHere is the response I got from Darrin when I inquired a few moments ago.Yes, I'm aware of it. The other day the traffic on the TNG Network took down a large piece of Simply Hosting's whole operation. Gustave & I took measures, but it was not enough and the traffic continued to bog down the servers. Finally I decided to disable it. I'm not sure what to do with it right now, as it appears to have outgrown the capacity available for it.If you have any ideas, let me know. Right now I'm thinking its worth is probably small, since it has been down for several days and you're the first person to mention it at all.I replied to him, that maybe the time has come to make Gendex a subscription service. We all know that Darrin does not charge enough for his software. I know that my site did not really start to get index by Google until I loaded my gendex file some 4 years ago, and that I found information on some of my ancestors due to searching the TNG Gendex. Right now I'm thinking its worth is probably small, since it has been down for several days and you're the first person to mention it at all.1. I think that this evaluation is unfair. Most of us know that Darrin has a full plate and we thus hesitate to bug him on items like this.2. Further, after a while, there was a message stating "We're sorry, but the TNG Network is currently unavailable. Please check back later." There was thus no need for anyone to bug Darrin.3. As this problem was mentioned on the TNG Forum, there was no reason to bug Darrin with personal e-mails.4. TNG Network's value is actually high as it points to our websites. Google claims strongly that the more links pointing to our websites, the more Google will index us.Arnold

We all know that the subscription price would be reasonable, knowing Darrin, and we all know what it is worth to us, and therefore we should be willing to pay for a TNG Gendex Server that is above and beyond the current TNG software. So, now we have figures to work with. (1) It's possible that some of us as a group can pick up the annual tab. (2) Or ask for donations on the Forum and listserve. If $600 comes in, then we are good for a year. If more comes in, then we are good for that number of months. Repeat when we run low on months. (3) I fear that it will be a (small) nightmare to run a subscription service.(4) For everyone: I am only brainstorming; so please no comments as to the idiocy of my ideas. Thanks.Arnold
bsl20b50
It seems that TNG has generated a fair amount of business for simply hosting. Perhaps a better price could be negotiated?

Perhaps a better price could be negotiated?Bryan,For all that Gustave does, for all the hand-holding he has done for others and me, I think he does not charge enough.I will be the last person to negotiate a deal with him.I feel strongly about this as Gustave was willing to help me when I was still with my former ISP/host.Arnold
Mike22
It was down when i posted this so try again laterhttp://tngnetwork.lythgoes.net/When the TNG outage takes longer, here is a good alternative:http://www.familytreeseeker.comYou can easily register you GENDEX.txt files and search through about 20 Million person records, located in many thousands of private genealogical home pages.
