joshturse
What are the benefits of using a content management system (CMS) like postnuke or phpnuke with TNG? Mainly, I guess I'd be interested if these would streamline the user/password/registration interface. I've noticed many of use are running forums along with our TNG databases, and for those forums, it seems phpBB is a overwhelming choice. Can phpBB (which encrypts passwords) be taught to handle the TNG username password combo? Maybe one of the CMS?
biddly
I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I use postnuke with TNG is because I was to add more genealogy related content on my site, not just my family tree.I am not happy with the fact that users currently have to register twice - since two separate databases are used - but I believe some script modifications can fix that. I am working on finding out how to do that. Being a novice in php, that may take a while. But if I ever figure it out, I'll post it on this forum. Can't help you with the forum issue. Maybe you can check into PNphpBB - a forum specifically for postnuke cms that integrates the registration/logins. If you plan on using postnuke as a CMS, maybe you can find the particular script that integrates both databases then copy it into your TNG script to integrate the two. ??Sue

It automatically uses the postnuke login for the TNG login as well. If they don't have a postnuke login, they can view as a guest. The pnTNG module is available on Darrin's download page.Sue,Could you post your website so that we can see the content you are referring to?Thanks, genfanIts in her signature: www.biddly.comSteve
John Paul
I'm currently testing postnuke ( http://www.jpjones.us ) for use with tng. I'm also using the pnphpbb2 forum module, which seems so far to be ok. tng looks like it integrates well, but I still need to add content and test. I'll also be testing with gallery1, since it's supposed to have a stable pn integration. I currently use e107 on my live site, but I am finding support getting slack and somewhat immature, which is really making me consider changing cms'. Although I'm an IT guy by trade, I don't consider myself a geek, and therefore don't wish to use geeky cms's...you know what I mean?
Xau
the only reason i dont use a CMS system is - I became tired of the only one providing information.. at somepoint i have become tired of providing updates and changes (Origional site was pure HTML - long time ago)7/12/1998 - when i first started my genealogy site.2/07/1999 - Moved site from GeoCities - to personal domain.8/24/2001 - Moved to its own domain. Tried Nuke/Post Nuke and a few other things. ended up just using phpbb - and let everyone contribute. its works to an point. i'm the one doing alot of the posts and content on this site. 7/7/2003 - Created another PHPBB genealogy site. with in 2 weeks of me starting this i was getting visitors, and posts. it has a steady stream of new people.and this found several cousins that i didnt know. (found 1 within the first 2 weeks)The biggest problem i have had with this since doing stuff this way is spammers advertising on my site.. stupid posts... but if you put a forum or anything you are bound to run into this. watch out for people who just register in your site just to have their www address show up in your members. since i want a clean site for my son to goto, i have removed that out for everyone. but no matter what site you run this can happen.I'm a webdeveloper by trade - I do this at work, write my own CMS systems, and maintain them too... along with updates ect... the thing everyone should get by reading this is you will eventually get burned out... if you plan early, you will have a site that can still function with out you doing tons of work, might not have alot of things happen. but you all should find someone you trust to help with your site content. this will help improve your site more than anything else. Content is why people goto your sites. Family Tree's, Origional Documentation... a way for them to communicate with others who might know more about the family...Xau
