stevewd259 Posted March 1 Report Share Posted March 1 Hi folks, Looking to get advice on how/if TNG can handle the way I would like to run my site. I have my tree in several places but the main one is on Ancestry which I am less than a fan of but it suits a purpose right now. I have many problems with Ancestry, not only the price but the way other people use the information erroneously in their own tree. To fix this I have two trees on Ancestry. One is public and a simple GEDCOM which hides Living People and does not have any documentation on it. The second is private and contains everything including all documents relating to the facts presented. I only allow access to this one to people I know are family members and are on the tree. What I would like to do with TNG rather than have two trees, is have one tree and be able to set permissions for users. For example. I would like to make it that no one can see any of the tree unless they create an account. It would be fine to let them see the History poges etc, but no access to the tree. Their access would be limited to non-living people and no documents. I would then like to create another tier of user. One that could access it all. They would have to conatct me to get those permissions though so I could vett them. I would love to hear any suggestions on how I could achieve this or something similar. Rob Severijns Posted March 1 Report Share Posted March 1 If I understand correctly you want a site with one tree that is accessable to the public but only info of people that have passed a certain time ago is visible and they can't see private and hidden info. Users can request the admin for "all" other info but not have admin rights. All of the above can be achieved via the Admin >> Users menu of each user. Also have a look at the Trees options to make sure users can't download an entire GEDCOM or create PDF files of your site.
