Philip Roy
I've been having all sorts of issues with MAMP on my silicon Mac for months now...php crashes, app crashes etc. I've read a lot on how to resolve the issues, but they all seem to last for a very short time....so I went looking for a free alternative...and boy did I find one... https://www.servbay.com Available for Mac and PC by the looks of things. You can have up to 5 local sites running for free from what I read. It took me only about an hour to get set up..and that was just adjusting the TNG config settings correctly. I was thinking I might write up a 'how to' for the wiki, but I'm short of time...and then as I started taking screenshots to write up something, I spotted their help pages...and stopped writing. Well documented material support! Am about to delete MAMP and am very happy with how ServBay is running. Two useful links (well they were for me) if you want to give it a go... https://support.servbay.com/basic-usage/websites/adding-first-website https://support.servbay.com/database-management/getting-started/mysql-management-and-usage
thboyd
I've been having trouble with MAMP (on a new computer) so I tried Servbay. It looks like a better package, but I can't connect to the data base. The MySQL 8.4 config window doesn't allow me to enter a host. It's grayed out. Any suggestions?
Philip Roy
What do you mean "host"? I can't see any value greyed out called that? If you want to get to the database itself, the easiest way is to click on the left most icon up the top-right. This will launch phpmyAdmin which you login with whatever account and password you set up in that first row. Adminer (which I know nothing about) is the second button and alternate to phpMyAdmin I believe.
thboyd
sorry. I think the "host name" is in the field labeled "Bind IP"
Philip Roy
Can't help. Don't know what that means sorry. I just left that blank. It's not needed to run TNG site locally. I just set up a website after installing mysql. Here's my website settings and the settings I used in the config file in TNG locally (which don't match with my hosted site elsewhere, so not a security risk by me showing this). thboyd
Thanks, Philip. I got it set up. Thought that I could just copy the database from the MAMP installation, but couldn't. Created a new database and imported from the online data base. Thanks for your help.
