Spell check a TNG site

Just wondering if some clever person has an effective way of spell checking their TNG site? My site is hidden and a Reunion (Mac software) GEDCOM import, but Reunion uses a Mac’s inbuilt spelling, which I have not been able to fan of for a long time.

I was viewing my site today and noticed some careless typos I had added in, in notes and also just things like photo captions. At the moment, I’ve taken to exporting a GEDCOM file and am using a word processing app (Pages on a Mac) to spell check…but is there some easier way? For example, is there a good GEDCOM file viewer that has a great spell checker included?

Any tips appreciated.

I’ve already checked the Reunion site and didn’t get any useful solution there.

PS…I’m looking for a global spell checking solution…not a ‘check as you type’ solution

You're already doing the only thing I can think of...

I've just finished spending large parts of the last week or so working through my Reunion file to sort out "smart quotes", which I'd had on for many years, but then discovered had been toggled off, so I had a mixture of dumb and smart quotes littered throughout Notes, Memos, Media descriptions, media titles, names, place names etc.

And also when copy and pasting text from somewhere else, the dumb quotes are pasted as is, but if you type a dumb quote it gets changed to a smart quote if the setting is On.

So I exported a GEDCOM file to BBEdit and used regex there to try and find all the instances there, then go to Reunion and track down where it was to correct it. I ended up doing this 12 times to track everything down, and then going through the Reunion file repeatedly.

A simple search of the GEDCOM file showed there were almost 13,000 instances of " (a dumb quote mark).

At the end there are still over 5,000 because they are in places like URL html codes, or as ditto marks in census transcripts, but I ended up sorting out almost 8,000 transgressions. Some could be done by Find and Replace in bulk in Reunion, but many had to be manually changed.

Sorry, but as I stated "I’m looking for a global spell checking solution…not a ‘check as you type’ solution".

Found this. It's Windows only, but appears to be free and I am using it under Parallels as it has a global spell checker...

Unsure why you would use a spellchecker - it is unlikely to know the variation(s) of spelling around the world - would probably be US English not English English :) Aus words and some kiwi spelling customs would also render errors.

Why would I want to use a spellchecker? Seriously? Because I want to spell check my Gedom file and/or site.

It has nothing to do with the US vs AUS vs NZ spelling variations. To quote me, I…
