Greyhound2004
Good afternoon all, I have not done anything on my site for sometime and omitted to renew my Domain. I was unable to get my original domain back so now have a new domain. My webhost has done a restore of my site to the new domain but have not restored my databases as they do not have a copy of these. ( I thought that the Web host carried out a full backup of the site and databases but this is not the case. ) I'm not even sure which version of TNG the site was running (I think TNG12) I have copies of the files and also the mySQL database files from when i had a webserver on my PC. I have a feeling that the mySQL version was 5.6 My current web host cannot support this, is there any way around this? My site was heavily customised and I believe that it is using My PHP 7.0 – This can be set I believe. I’m looking for advice on the best way forward. Would it be best to concentrate on getting the old site working first with old versions of mysql and myPHP ? Am I looking at starting from scratch again? Your thoughts and advice welcomed. theKiwi
You ca find out what version the site was by using FTP or File Manager to look at the file called version.php that your host has restored. Was your site data imported from a genealogy software, or was it built using only TNG? If the former, then for sure start over and import the data into a new TNG 15 site. If the latter then you might get success if you upload the sql files you have to your site, and restore them using phpMyAdmin or the TNG Admin ------> Utilities if you can set your site to use maybe PHP 7.4. Then upgrade the site to TNG 15 and set the PHP to 8.3 or whatever your host says is now current. Roger
Greyhound2004
Hi Roger, Thank you for the reply. The site data was imported from a Gedcom and I still have copies of that. Am i correct in thinking that TNG also uses the database to store configuration items? Most of the customisation of my site was done with a lot of help from Alan Craxford with articles written in php which I was begining to understand a bit. I have also played about a bit with Joomla. I have for a while wondered about wordpress. Would be interest in you experience. I'll check out the version.php file.
theKiwi
The Histories articles will be in the sql files you have, but it will be difficult to get just them out of what you have if you were to start over with a new upload. So you likely need to figure out how to reinstate your TNG 12 site and get it upgraded to TNG 15. I can think of a couple of ways that might be accomplished, but don't have a lot of time at the moment. Roger
