I have set up TNG on several occasions and always seem to have this problem and I can't remember what I had to do to get it to work!  I'm trying to got upload media but it either just doesn't do anything without telling me or it says it has and there is nothing there when you look at the record!  I'm working on V15.0.1 on a Mac using MAMP.  I'm sure I'm doing something really stupid and just need to be pointed in the right direction please.

Many thanks

I am not an expert but, I guess yoy want to upload from a photo folder on your pc.

I have done like this:

1. Go to Media section in Admin, check that you choose collection: Photos.
2. Click Add files and you will be moved to your pc
3. Go to your folder for photos and choose the one you want to upload (remember the name)  and click Open
4. You will now see the photo you chosed, click Start upload or Start
5. After a little while you can see the uploading process
6. Now click Search for the photo, be sure that you search in collection: Photos. The photo is displayed if everything went ok
7. Click the pen to the left and you can change and add information about the photo
8. Go down to Media information, where you shall see your tree.
9. If you want to add the photo to a person/individ, go to the magnifying glass and click that
10. A new window will open where you can search for a person. After that click Finish
11. You will now see the person where you also can choose to click Default photo if you want
12. Flnaly Save+Exit and you have added a photo to a person

I hope this will help you.

I do not add media this way : I do not got first to the media section.
I go first to the person (or the family or the place) public page.
I click on edit.
I click on the add media link in the inner menu.
The add media page opens in administration.
I choose to which collection the media will be uploaded (photos, documents ...)
I choose the media to upload from my computer.
I fill in some informations such as the title and the source.
I save a first time
A second edition screen opens.
I can choose to which event the media will be displayed, if it will be the default photo,if it should be connected to other persons/families/places, if it needs drawing tags with links to different persons (ie for a wedding photo)
I save then and on the public page (person, family, place) the media is displayed where I have chosen in administration.

@OscarMisty Can you please be more specific in terms of the process you follow (like Leif and Katryne have each outlined) as you are talking in very broad terms....so it's hard to tell where in TNG and how you are doing the upload.

Also, when you go into the setup section and check diagnostics, is everything green like this image...

Interesting. I add media a different way.

  1. I set up the folder from the Media page in Admin, if I haven't already.
  2. I FTP whatever media I want to the folder
  3. I go to Media > Add New, select the Collection, and then search in the folder for the file.
  4. I add in the Title and Description, and Save and Continue . . .
  5. I link the file to the individuals or the source or wherever I want it to appear on the site.

I think we all do. Mine is different to what others have said. I think we need to understand what the process is @OscarMisty follows and try and help them from there.

Thanks everyone for your help.  I appear to have problems with some of the files I am trying to upload.  If I redo them from scratch they seem to work so I'm going to do that. But I do have a minor issue that perhaps you can help with.  I have set up a new collection based on Photos, it's actually called Homes, and I would like to see them in a row as per Documents or Photos.  At present they all come up on different rows.

And yes when I check the Diagnostics all are green!

  • Go into the Media section
  • Click on "Add collection"
  • In the pop-up window I suggest you click on "Help for this area" and have a really good read of what collections are
  • Then create a collection called "Homes" and then select the images that you want and use the button "Covert selected to" and make sure the drop-down is set to "Homes"

Basically you are creating a collection called Homes that has all the images in it that you want.
