Site Reviews to Help People to find your website

I would like to offer to any TNG user a listing of a site review of your genealogy site on my website. This allows TNG users a unique way of describing their site's virtues that is not available in most listings. I provide space for a few paragraphs describing attributes of your site and a link from an index page to your site and the review. My hope is to give TNG users another method for people to learn about your site and improve its visibility on the web.

Please take a look at the ones already posted here TNG Website Reviews to see the general format and size.

If you will send me a text document containing the information you would like to be included in your site review I will create a web page and include your site in the index of reviewed sites. I will return to you the link to your posted review so you can reference it on your site if you desire.

I do have to work for a living, so please be patient, as I will try to post your review a soon as possible. If you can include the text file of your review and the words "TNG Site Review" in the subject line and send the email to sjwinslow@gmail.com it will help me get your review posted more quickly.

P.S. Now for the disclaimers... Of course once you submit the review, it will be at my discretion to post it or not and make edits for size and content. I make no guarantee that I will be able to post every ones review since there are numerous TNG users and my web space and time are limited but I will do my best. This is an experiment and the offer of a posting may be stopped at any time.

I like your idea and hopefully you will take this as a positive criticism, but I think for it to be truly useful, the table of contents page needs to have some sort of classification system to it (especially if it is really popular) and better abstracts. Just as an example from what is on there now, nothing really leads me to want to click on:

Roots to Buds - Website Review

Check out this very dynamic and informative genealogy site. Numerous photos and extended information make this site enjoyable as well as informative.

First of all, with some website names, you don't even know what the primary name that is being researched so there is not much reason to click through to the review. But if you do click on the link, you get some useful information. I think having some of that information on your table of contents page could be helpful in getting clicks through. For example, if the table of contents page listed one sentence that summarized the site and then have the top five surnames and maybe top five geography locations. For example, the biggest geography area in my site is the Quebec area so I would be looking for other sites that have information on that area, or surnames that I recognize.

Just some thoughts.

Steve30000,

I think those are good suggestions and will implement them. My hope was for this to be more than just a list of site links or a webring and I think your suggestion can be accomplished without taking up too much space in the index.

Thanks,

Steve
