[Resolved] Moving to new host (Hostinger)

I'm having alot of problems moving my TNG 13.0.1 to a new host. I've read the few posts on the subject, including a 2009 file with instructions. Progress, but still not running. And FYI, I've learned enough to stumble through occasional issues like this, but I'm definitely not very experienced in this level of troubleshooting.

Current status: When I point my browser to the TNG directory, I get some components. (Screenshot attached.) When I look at the page source code, there's a lot of code (that apparently isn't working). When I look at the Navigator console (?) it begins with lots of timeout errors related to doesAppNeedPin. But that's all beyond me.

What I've done:

1) From the current working site: downloaded a copy of my entire tng directory and a backup of my sql database.

2) Uploaded the entire tng directory to my new site with same tng directory name.

3) Opened readme.html in browser from my new tng directory.

[As an aside, because of problems getting this setup procedure to work, I 3a) set new site php version to the same as on my current working site: 7.4 . 3b) Removed from my top level htaccess file the list of order of precedence for searching for an initial file (like index.html) to execute.]

4) Created a new sql database on my new host.

5) Seemed to successfully execute setup in readme for permissions, folder names, character set and connecting to my new database.

This is where I'm stuck. Per the 2009 instructions, "After creating the TNG tables, you can skip the rest of the installation." If I create the TNG tables (seems successful), then import the sql database, the import immediately aborts with an error message that the very first table, tng_addresses, already exists. So I import the sql database first, then try to "create the database tables. This process seems to get stuck, as the "Please wait, attempting to process..." status does not go away. When I point my browser to the tng directory, I get the screenshot.

6) I asked Hostinger for help, but they basically said all that I've tried (their kb article helped me troubleshoot, so far) and said to ask TNG tech support.

I could try a clean install, but I'll lose my users and current configuration and I don't know whether that will be successful, either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Mike

At the very least you need to open the config.php file and delete the entry between the " " marks for the $rootpath as that has almost certainly changed with the change in hosts. TNG is smart enough to figure out what the rootpath should be if that entry is blank.

Or you can go to TNG Admin ------> Setup ------> General Settings ------> Paths and folders and delete the entry there for rootpath, and save the changes there.

See if that makes any difference to what happens.

If you imported the SQL database, you should not attempt to create the database tables from the readme.hmtl which would cause you to lose all your data.

As Roger indicated, you will need to manually clear the Rootpath

Try opening your TNG URL after you have cleared the rootpath.  Post what happens back here

Thank you Ken and Roger for your suggestions. It looks like I finally have this resolved. This was a very long and painful process. A combination of my limited experience and Hostinger's service. (Honestly, Hostinger chat was always courteous and helpful, but chat was sometimes difficult to access, some of my issues were beyond their ability or interest to resolve, some of the their instructions were wrong/out-of-date or slightly incomplete, which, due to my inexperience required lots of time to figure out. Etc.) Anyway, ...

It turned out that importing my sql db only accepted the first 30 (of 38) tables. So tables near the end of the alphabet, like templates and users, were unavailable. When I set up the database and tables through the tng readme.html file, it seemed to not complete. I discovered that it was able to create just the first 17 tables. Hostinger's solution was to have me use SSH - installing a client, trying to configure a key, etc. - to install the database, which I finally was able to do this morning. Still some problems, but deleting the rootpath and then using the readme.html setup to connect the database fixed them. For others who may be having problems, I'll mention: I have not yet connected my domain to this site since I wanted to get it up and working before making it public. This means some of my paths are strange. I used this temporary path in my tng_domain setting. Honestly, I don't know if that helped. I'm just flagging the temporary domain path as a possible issue.

I've seen other posts from people using Hostinger, so I assume this isn't always so difficult.

Having gone through all of this, and still in a possible refund period, I'm considering using Darrin's recommended SimplyHosting service, instead.

Thanks again for your help.

Glad you've nearly got things resolved.  As to hosting services,  I can highly recommend ICDSoft . Their support has always been top notch, and prices seem reasonable to me. I think Ken Roy would agree with me since he's been with them a long while also.
