OSM piNs

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have been a user of TNG since version 7, but my first time as a member of the forum, I am now using TNG 14 having upgrading through each version.

Somewhere along the path whilst using OSM I have lost the pins showing on right pane of the event map this being replaced by links to Google earth.

I have reinstalled OSM to latest version, all to no avail.

could anyone point me in the right direction to reestablish the pin icons.

Thank You

John M

Hi !

OSM mod requires first that you must start your map key with "OSM" to get TNG to use OSM. Maybe you forgot about it. Check this in Setup >> Configuration >> Map Settings

Maybe you could try too the mod Hide Google earth links : https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php/Hide_google_earth_links

And this other mod too in order to make easier geolocation : OSM automatic geocoding : https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=OSM_Automatic_Geocoding&redirect=no

Rob, Thank you for suggestion but all locations are geocode.

Katryne Thanks also for your suggestions, However, both OSM key was in place, as was OSM Automatic geocoding. I did try To hide Google Earth Links but this only removed the icon to the right of the event description but the google link on left (url of G... E... coordinates) of event description remains

John, without a link to your site it is impossible to diagnose what might be causing your problem. One can only take guesses as to what might be wrong. The OpenStreetMap mod was created to replace part of the Google Maps code. Both depend heavily on javascript and jQuery functions.

Make sure that you copied all the js folder for the TNG 14 upgrade to your site.

Note that browsers are also getting smarter or more difficult to deal with in replacing cached versions of code. You now need to make sure that you only have one tab opened to a given site before the Forced Reload will work. If you have a mixture of old and new code, results are unpredictable

Ken

Your input is very much appreciated. Following a suggestion by Katryne, I uploaded the mod " Hide Google Earth links" which in turn led me to getperson.php where at about line 700 in my case, there is "Hide Google Earth Links Mod - #2 - MichelKirsch" which works to exclude the google pins to the right of the description pane on the place map.

Within MichelKirsch code is the line :-
$persontext .= "<a href=\"placesearch.php?psearch=" .urlencode($place) ."\" target= \"_blank\"><img src=\"{$cms['tngpath']}google_marker.php?image=$pinplacelevel.png&text=$thismarker\" alt=\"{$text['googlemaplink']}\" title=\"
If I replace it with
$persontext .= "<a href=\"placesearch.php?psearch=" .urlencode($place) ."\" target= \"_blank\"><img src=\"{$cms['tngpath']}../img/023.png" alt=\"{$text['googlemaplink']}\" title=\"

I can at least force an Icon, I know this is not realistic, just where I am at the moment.
I will in the interim follow your suggestions and see where that leads.

Thanks

This would be much easier to help diagnose if you could post a link to a page on your site that shows this problem. If it needs a log in you should post the details to log in to at least a Guest account.

Fatal error: Uncaught TypeError: Cannot access offset of type string on string in customconfig.php:4

Stack trace:
#0 config.php(221): include()
#1 begin.php(12): include('/home/u84258032...')
#2 google_marker.php(2): include('/home/u84258032...')
#3 {main} thrown in customconfig.php on line 4

So there is something wrong in whatever mod created line 4 in your customconfig.php. This fatal error then stops the generation of the google pin with the number affixed.

Hi John,

Looking at your OSM Map as it is, you seem to have a wing-ding , where there should be a "-" sign, under the "+" in the top left hand corner.

You might want to go to Admin >>> Setup >>> Language and see what is checked. Are you runnIng UTF-8.???

Also what Map are you running, to get location pins at the bottom.?? Or is that from a Mod.

Drew..

Drew, thank you for your input, you nailed it with the language setting, done the change and it now shows minus sign.

As for map it is from Openstreetmap, I assume that is the default map.
Your assistance is appreciated.

If you go to Admin >>> Setup >>> Map Settings, make sure OSM is set for the Map Key. (see pic).

Then go to Admin >>> Mod Manager >>> click on openstreetmap and go to options. (see pic). Make sure OSM is in the Map box.

That should cure the issue.

The Mods are correct. Looking at your Map again, you are missing a Google Link. Have you altered any php file, which has removed a Google Earth reference.?? If the edit of the php file was done as mentioned, might be why you cant see any pins.

Silly question....When did you first notice that the pins were missing from a Map. Was it after installing a Mod. After deleting a Mod. Or something else.

Are you able to access your CP and initiate a backup, from an earlier date.

This was due to an earlier suggestion, to install the Mod "Hide google links" which once installed removed the google earth icon that showed on right row of the event description pane.
I have removed the mod and the earth icons are now present.

What about the Map Pins, are they now viewable.

Drew re your earlier Question re ," when did i notice missing pins" That I cannot say... I took a longish break with TNG and then only noticed the other day...I have gone back on the previous versions and pins were missing.
