Philip Hunt
Recently my web hosting service was taken over by another one (VentraIP). Everything has been working fine until I tried to update my family tree with the latest gedcom. I see others have had similar problems in the past. I'm running TNG 13.1.2 and PHP is 7.4. I tried loading the gedcom directly into the gedcom folder. The update starts, but seems to be in a read loop. www.philiphunt.com
Ken Roy
Philip, You could try clicking the Stop link and once stopped click the Resume link. If that does not work, you will need to contact Darrin from him to resolve the issue. I was never a web server system administrator. I do know that I have to use CGI instead of FPM with OPcache for Import to show the progress bar on my hosting site, otherwise you it simply updates the progress bar all at once when it is done. Not all hosts offer an option to select what PHP settings are used.
Ken Roy
Philip, If your hosting service is using PHP 8.1, you may need to get them to downgrade to using PHP 7.4 See Recent Import issue post

VentraIP wont be the issue here, as you have stated, "Everything has been working fine until I tried to update my family tree with the latest gedcom". Login to VentraIP and update your PHP, as Ken has pointed out. You will find that in the CP (Control Panel), if you did'nt know or were'nt sure. Go to the Software Tab and open the box, choose Select PHP Version and open.. You have a choice of PHP from 5.1 to 8.1 from the drop down menu ...7.4 is available, if you think that will be the better choice to work with TNG 13.1.2 ...VentraIP updates their versions of PHP but allows the user to choose, to suit the software application. Your next bet is to then go to the Advanced Tab and open the box. Click on LiteSpeed Web Cache Manager and open it. Where it says Hit Flush, hit the button to clear the cache. Then click on the Advanced button at the bottom of that page and then start Restart Detached PHP Processes by clicking Restart Then try and upload the gedcom again. As an fyi and pointed out by @Ken Roy, @Henk, was also having an issue with PHP as well. https://tng.community/index.php?/forums/topic/15801-131-b2-and-no-gedcom-import/&tab=comments#comment-90109 Drew.. Philip Hunt
Hi Ken and edgelimited, Much appreciate your help. So far no joy. I followed edgelimited's instructions. The site is already running PHP 7.4, but just to be sure I switched to 8.0 and then 7.3. Neither of these would run the site, so back to 7.4. Did the changes to LiteSpeed as suggested. Deleted the gedcom. Made a new one (using Family Tree Maker 2019). Uploaded it to the gedcom folder on the site. Selected it and ran it. Firefox reports a series of commands as follows: www.philiphunt.com READ www.philiphunt.com Transferring data from www.philiphunt.com... READ code.jquery.com www.philiphunt.com www.philiphunt.com Transferring data from www.philiphunt.com... These commands are just repeated over and over. Is that TNG doing it's stuff? I waited 35 minutes. I cannot remember this taking more than a few minutes before, so I assumed something isn't right. Further suggestions? Hi Philip, sounds like there is an issue with TNG 13.1.2 Contact @Darrin Lythgoe directly at darrin@lythgoes.net let him know what is happening. peter hannaway
Hi Philip, I too had this problem in 2016 of Import GEDCOM "hanging"/not running after migrating to a new server host - but it wasn't a PHP issue in my case. Darrin recognised my Root path and GEDCOM file name combined were now too long and didn't fit in the field prepared to store them. However as I'm not an advanced user I let Darrin correct the Root Path (in Paths and Folders) Also my domain name was pointing to the wrong location which I got my new hosting provider to correct. You may also need to clear your browser cache. Cheers Peter
Philip Hunt
Hi everyone, Darrin pinpointed the problem as a failure in upgrading to 13.2 to " change the "offset" field in the tng_saveimport table to "fileoffset", ". I did the 13x-13x upgrade again and that fixed it. Thanks for your support as always! Happy family tree-ing.
