V 13 install images missing

Recommended Posts

Patrick

New install V13. Software installed OK and all the people are there. but no images for the people.

The install is at    www.delandre-grogan.uk/tree.

Separately my old version is on a different website  www.delandre-grogan.co.uk at the root.

Thia may have caused me to get confused.

I am using Template 4 and the home page is OK.

I used FTP to upload all the images of the people to root/tree/image.

For any given person, I think the software is looking in the wrong place.

Any suggestions ?

Can you post a link to a page that shows this problem?

Roger, Thanks for the reply.

Link to the new site

http://www.delandre-grogan.uk/tree/descend.php?personID=I14&tree=grogan&display=standard&generations=3

My old site is still up on another domain, so here is a link to the old working site so you can see what graphics should be there.

https://www.delandre-grogan.co.uk/descend.php?personID=I14&tree=dlg&display=standard&generations=3

The new site ( dot uk) is located at root/tree

The old site (dot co dot uk) is located at the root

I’m wondering if it’s a slight typo in the new site? You have it as HTTP…no S? It should be a secure site as it’s still part of the same domain. Could that be causing issues? Try fixing that first under site design and definition…and also generate thumbnails to see if that reports any missing images.

Is the rootpath set correctly on the new site? - that being wrong could be one reason why the images aren't being found.

I think you are right. I have tried seting the root but got the message

Error: TNG is not communicating with your database. Please check your database settings and try again. Settings can be found under Admin/Setup/General Settings/Database, or at the top of your config.php file.

The site is no longer accessable, all i get is this message

I have tried running the readme.html on the server again in the hope to gain access to the site again.

At stage 3 Set permissions, I get a red message as follows

/tree/config.php, /tree/mmconfig.php, /tree/importconfig.php, /tree/logconfig.php, /tree/mapconfig.php, /tree/pedconfig.php (666 / rw-rw-rw-)backups, gedcom (755 / rwxr-xr-x).

Would it be an idea to upload the above files again and run readme again? OR

Should I try to reset the permissions as per the message?

Patrick,

Since you already have a site, why not download the appropriate upgrade zip file and do an upgrade?

I have now wiped clean the "tree" folder, and re-run readme.html.

So the site is now visible again. But as before no images for the people.

The "photos" directory does exist with all my people images, but clearly the TNG software con not find it.

Any sugestions please

Thanks Ken.

The old site "delandre-grogan.co.uk" is on a server that I am walking away from.

The new site "delandre-grogan.uk" is with a different provider

Also I have decided the TNG will be in a folder named "tree"

Send me an eMail to rogerkiwi@aol.com that includes:

TNG Admin Login and password
FTP login and password (or cPanel access login and password).

I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I can figure out what the problem is.

I've taken a look at this. Here's the Media section of TNG Admin

image.png

There are no media items linked to anyone, and so therefore no images show on anyone's page.

Yes there are 298 media items in the "photos" folder, but as seen above, they're not linked to anyone.

The GEDCOM file you imported (still in the gedcom folder) does not contain any links to the media items - that's why there is no media in the Media section above.

The GEDCOM file came from TNG - did you tell TNG to export the media items when you generated this GEDCOM file?

Lastly, if you're moving from one host to another, a  much better way to do this is to use TNG Admin ------> Utilities. Make sure that both sites are running the same TNG version, then back up ALL the tables and table structure. Copy those files from the backups folder on the old host, and then upload them all to the backups folder on the new host. Then once you've got the new host setup with the same version of TNG, go to TNG Admin ------> Utilities, and then Restore first the Table Structure, and then all the tables.

Patrick,

If you still have your TNG v12.0.1 full install zip file, you should use that to create your new site.  Then do as Roger recommends above.   I would also offer the following.

If your host offers the capability to create a zip archive you should use that also to backup your file folders.  If your host does not offer zip archive creation and restore, then you need to use FTP to download the file folders from your old host and upload them to your new host.

Once migrated, you can upgrade to the latest TNG v13

I have downloaded a new gedcom file from my "co.uk" site and included the graphics.

after importing the new gedcom file dlgjune6.ged the graphics now show in "Media"

They still do not show for the people. Is there anything else I need to do to link them to the people?

The old site was based at the root of its server

The new site is based at root/tree of this server

Could that be significant

No - the problem was you hadn't generated the thumbnails...

image.png

I did that, and now there seems to be images where they are expected to be - eg here

http://www.delandre-grogan.uk/tree/getperson.php?personID=I216&tree=grogan

and here

http://www.delandre-grogan.uk/tree/descend.php?personID=I216&tree=grogan

Roger.

As you say, it seems to be OK with images where there should be.

Thank you very much for your help. and Ken for his comments.

I want you to know that I appreciate you giving your time to help people like me.

Very best wishes

Patrick
