Renumbering all (or some) individiuals and families

First post. After searching the forum not finding an answer I am still looking for a solution.

I imported from gedcom. Individuals started from I0000 and go up to I00276 (or something). Now I added a new individual (not too many yet) and found out that I now have an individual I0001 and I1; I0002 and I2 (up to I15 or something). Syntactically, I1 and I0001 differ. Semantically they are the same. What is the best way to solve this? Renumber the whole database? Write my own SQL? Resquence ID's in the utilities menu did not solve anything.

How many individuals are in your database in total?

How many media are linked to these people?

Do you have individuals set up in the Cemeteries part of TNG?

1 option would be to export a GEDCOM out of TNG and then import that into a desktop genealogy software that would renumber everybody as they get imported - that might work, if the software that you use can do that

Then export a GEDCOM file, and then import that back into TNG using the Replace All Data choice.

This will mess up all the media you have linked, unless you also export the Media links and then reimport them as well after emptying out all of the current media from TNG - hence my first questions.

Hello,

If you still need to number your identifiers, GEDCOM Renumber can help you.

This utility is free.

Sincerely.

Pretty useless - keeps telling me that I am a spammer when trying to register!

This mod was written for @RickM (Rick Malkin) and is not promoted on the wiki.

It save the number of digits you save when renumbering your ID's with TNG.

The next ID you will add to your database will contain the number of digits you saved when renumbering.

If the last ID you use was I000152, the newt will be I000153

In your case, renumber your ID's with 5 digits. (Admin >> Utilities >> Resequence ID's)

Don't forget to make a backup of your base before proceeding (Admin >> Utilities >> Tables)

If you have questions, Rick can certainly help you...
