clearing media tables to reimport images?

Recommended Posts

jeff g

Hi Everyone! :)

I hope some might have an idea about how to approach

things before I make a mess. It has been Awhile since I reloaded a new GEDCOM.

I forgot and many of my media were way above 1 MB.

So I resized the ones needed and created "thumb" prefixes

to match TNG in the same photos folder for all the photos.

The problem is I have listed in TNG 9300 media files for photos, where I in reality on my photos on the host is 5200 photos.

I was using the regenerate thumbnails and import function  several times to where I have doubles I assume.

Before I upload all the correct sizes, cant I fix the tables or something to prepare correctly for the import of the

correct photo sizes and thumbs???

Thanks greatly for any help!

Jeff :-D

Jeff,

There is a mod called Unused Media

It lists files which are present in the media folders on the server, but not registered with TNG.

Maybe this will help you finding doubles.

Why resize media files above 1Mb other then for serverspace reasons?

Rob,

The simple answer to that 'is page load speed' AND the fact that one does not need a super high def picture etc for it to look great on a web page.. I get annoyed when I have to wait for my own pages to load because there is an image or something I have forgotten to shrink..

Good spotting with that Mod. Prob come in useful for me too!!

Hi Rick,

A very good reason too :-)

I also thought of a possible problem where uploading media files is restricted to a certain size.

In that case modifying the .htaccess file could be an option.

Hope the mod works for you too.

RIck and Rob,

Thank you both so much for your help with this!

I start deleting manual, lol

Rob, but now you mention the mod,

I think it was included with a admin media mod I have!

I didn't realize it could be useful for duplicates.

Thank you for that!

Rick as well as faster loading, I read in some post that above 1 MB

the php doesn't call so easily.

I did use easythumbs as well to pre generate all the thumbs and add them to my photos folder .

Thank you both again! :)

😆now I am from 9300 down to 2400 images :thumbs up:

SO quick!, vs. 1 hour of eyewatering screen focus manual clicking!

append to imports should keep things more proper ya think?

With gratitude,

ari-gatooooooooo-go-zaiiiii-masssssssssssssssss-uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

Jeff :)

By the way Jeff,

Maybe you already know this but if you export your Gedcom (from within TNG) you can choose to export the media links too.

Saves a lot of time too

Thanks Rob!

my workflow is a little strange:

1. research in Ancestry.com

2. update changes in FTM 2019 (Rootsmagic is so slow with 1 by 1)

3. export as a 2012 FTM GEDCOM.

4. import Into Rootsmagic and configure all to my hearts delight.

5. export a GEDCOM ready for TNG, that is put in my TNG host.

6. Import the GEDCOM into my tree.

Perhaps the TNG export is good to iron out the bugs?

I see,

I myself use TNG as my main genealogy program and don't use any other software.

Same as Rob : I do not use other genealogy software any more : I work directly and only in TNG, online. With frequent backups of course.
