Hanne B. Stegemüller
Hello again It is strange: I suddenly have problems with Danish characters on my website - in of course the Danish section. The problems started today after I made some changes in text.php in both the Danish folder and the Danish-UTF8 folder. The changes I made were in these lines and nothing else: Quote //added in 12.2 $text['quicklinks'] = "Links"; $text['yourname'] = ""; $text['youremail'] = ""; $text['liketoadd'] = ""; The problems are visible in fields that belong to the template. I use template 209 from Marsha. Here is an example where it is easy to see the problem: https://tng.stegemueller.dk/getperson.php?personID=I630&tree=HBS The active language folder is "Danish-UTF8" and the character set is UTF8. I have not made any changes to these settings. The database is "utf8mb4_general_ci" like it has always been. There are no problems with data that come from the database. The GEDCOM is UTF8 as it has always been. The source is data from Legacy deluxe version 9. I have not uploaded a new GEDCOM. Is it possible one of you can figure out what has happened? Ken Roy
Without direct access to your host files, one can only offer observations. I offer the following You should probably not make changes to the TNG text.php files directly. TNG provides a cust_text.php override file for your to override TNG text variables that you do not agree with. If your site is UTF-8, you do not need to override the ASCII or ISO-8859 definitions files What editor did you use to edit the file. It appears that the character encoding was not preserved
Hanne B. Stegemüller
Hi Ken Thank you very much! You solved my problem. I always use Notepad++ and now I opened the file again and converted it to UTF-8, uploaded and the problem is gone. Edited August 6, 2021 by Hanne Spelling mistake
