theKiwi
Look in the top of the GEDCOM file as I mentioned previously for the line 1 CHAR what comes after that? It needs to say 1 CHAR UTF-8 Does it say ANSI? Change it to UTF-8, save the GEDCOM file and run the import yet again. Roger

Sarah, After you convert your GEDCOM to UTF-8 in Notepad++, you need to change the line that shows 19 hours ago, SarahBeth said: 1 CHAR ANSI to 1 CHAR UTF-
SarahBeth
@Ken Roy and @theKiwi Thanks for that suggestion! I checked, but that's already changed in my GEDCOM. And then the "Save As" option has the UTF-8 option selected: And I double checked the Language settings in my TNG Admin: But this is the GEDCOM displaying after I just re-imported it a minute ago: I'm using Windows 10 (64-bit) totally updated, with Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Firefox . . . if any of that helps. Did you set up other languages in TNG Admin ------> Languages? If so, what are they set to? Can you make a .zip copy of the GEDCOM file as it comes out of Family Tree Maker and send it by eMail to rogerkiwi@aol.com and I'll take a look at it, and import it into my testing site to see what's going on. Roger Hi! I've just sent the GEDCOM to your e-mail. Thank you so much for helping! No, I have not set up other languages yet . . . this is what that area looks like in my Admin:
SarahBeth
Thanks to @theKiwi the answer is found! Family Tree Maker must be doing something funny with the GEDCOM. But this worked -- 1) Save GEDCOM in FTM 2) Open GEDCOM in Notepad 3) Copy all text and paste into a new document in Notepad. 4) Replace 1CHAR ANSI line to 1CHAR UTF-8 5) Save File as .ged (you have to manually add the file extension) with UTF-8 Option Selected 6) Import this saved GEDCOM into TNG . . . and all the odd characters are working perfectly! Thank you all so much for the help!!
