Jipi 0 Report post Posted January 10 Hello, When importing a Gedcom file of over 140,000 records we have several consecutive two or three commas in the "PLACE" field, and also accented characters which are transformed into weird characters. The GEDCOM export file is well encoded (ANSI). It is approximately 30% of the registrations which would have to be corrected. In short, is it possible to do a kind of "Search & Replace" in the places? Example I put a command to replace ",,," by ","? Thanks for your help !
Ken Roy 0 Report post Posted January 10 Might be easier to change the ANSI GEDCOM to UTF-8 using Notepad++

It seems that your places are not well encoded. A correct place is (by example) encoded as Town, County, Country. There is no standards, you do what you want. BUT!! If you decide to encode Town, County, Coutry (from little to greater) do not mix up the ways of encoding. You can not have once Town, county, Country ("Acapulco, , Mexico") and once something, something, Town (", , New York") When you will search for a place in TNG you will certainly confused... Jipi 0 Report post Posted January 10 I'm not sure this removes the ",,,"
