Google has been crawling my site heavily daily since February, but has been doing almost nothing with the results. It happily reads my sitemaps, keeps reading the site, but indexes nothing.I created a dynamic report, one click off the home page, listing all my names. No change.I created about 90 flat html pages listing all those names. No change. (In fact, I'm pretty sure Google never read them at all. They've never shown up in my logs.)The only good thing that happened was that Yahoo, which had ignored my site too, found the flat html pages, gobbled them up, and immediately gave me 1,000 listings in their index. I strenuously de-duped my records, forcing three separate trees into one tree, to avoid having a few hundred individuals living in multiple trees.I posted as much original content as I could scrape together.Nothing, nothing, nothing. I think I peaked at 38 indexed pages in Google. So I walked away from the problem for about six weeks. I've been out of town. I've been off the web. Best thing I ever did.Middle of this week I did my usual site:URL search on Google and ... 28,000 pages!They're all Supplemental Results, but who cares. If I run random ancestors' names past Google, it nearly always displays those pages from my site, front and center.And this business about Google not liking duplicate content? I only have something like 5,000 names in my site, and Google nevertheless has found 28,000 different ways to access them.My conclusion? There's no logic to any of this. It's random. After all, what is a little time, to a genealogist?Woah!!!! I went from 26 to 3,640! Darn tngprint is doubling my numbers. I've have done alot with mod_rewrite lately....setting up alot of 301 redirects. Don't know if that has helped or Google is being nice to me today. Woohoo! Me Happy! As for time....I'M IMPATIENT!!! Hhhhmmm ... suspiciously about the time Big Daddy choked and massive problems started being reported.I still maintain that we're getting dinged, check out this: (these are a random sample from your results)Adams Ab d. ... theKiwi Posted August 24, 2006 Report Share Posted August 24, 2006 I just done my daily check of my main site on Google, and it initially showed the usual 39,700 pages - this has been up from about 27,900 pages for several days.The big change today though is that up until today I only had 4 or 5 pages that weren't supplemental, all the rest listed by Google were supplemental.Today my first 55 pages of results on Google are NOT supplemental, and they comprise mainly, but not exclusively, my find.php pages. When I checked the cache link for various random pages they were the result of a crawl on 21 or 22 August.Interestingly as I paged through, the number of results varied - down as low as 33,000 and as high as 41,200 each time I requested a new page of results.CheersRoger Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I searched site:www.mitchgen.net and got 7100 results, hit the search button again, three times in a row (didn't change a thing in the search box) and got three different results (7100, 10200, 9820, 9310.
