*solved* / Template 4 - small photo is not displayed

The new or replacement small photo should be uploaded to your Template 4 img folder.

When I change any photos myself, I keep the same name as the original.

I find this is the easiest and safest way to succeed i.e. just rename your new photo as smallphoto.jpg and remove or rename the original one.

Ensure the dimensions of the new photo are much the same as the original.

Ingrid,
The small photo looks like it only has a path to templates/template4/ and not all the way to the file that you want to show (templates/template4/img/Fam. Schuster_1966.jpg).

the replacement image can be found in folder Template 4 img.

I switched back to the old smallphoto I had (and which was displayed), but even the old one is not displayed (is also in the Template 4 img folder) now!

what do I have to change?

In the Admin > Template Settings > Template 4 you need to specify "img/image_name" and not just image_name  (not sure what the TNG input field name is since I modify Template 4 on my site)

@Ken Roy please see my Admin > Template Settings > Template 4

Likely the obvious, but make sure you also clear your browser cache, and, as Michael notes, keeping the same filename is easiest.

I have now again checked everything ...

I know much too little about it, but as you have written - img/Fam. Schuster_1966.jpg is missing in the link, it shows only templates/template4/ instead of templates/template4/img/Fam. Schuster_1966.jpg (I checked it in firefox, grafik - information! )

I attach the inputs in index.php and topmenu.php - are they correct? Is there something missing?

thank you all for your help!

Your picture "Familie Schuster Josef, 1966" is showing fine for me on your home page in chrome.

I was confused with that pic too, but it's the little pic top right which is not displaying

You can see the the little box where the pic should be

As Brent pointed out, the photo path is not complete (no img/file name)

Yes, the 'bigphoto' has the full path and displays OK on the left , but  the 'smallphoto' path is incomplete, as Brent indicates.  The index and topmenu look OK, but something else is getting in the way or overriding or blocking those statements, apparently.

Ron,

it really seems that the class=smallphoto does not work.

the photo (img/Fam. Schuster_1966.jpg) is there anyway - I have now changed from "Text" to "Image", and this img is displayed as a banner - as it should be.

My conclusion: the Admin > Template Settings > Template 4 is not the reason (otherwise the banner wouldn't work!)

what do I have to change where, so that the class=smallphoto works again?

Without seeing the source for the index.php file, one can only guess whether everythng is OK,

Maybe something was editing in the index.php and topmenu.php that should not have been changed.  The inspector does not show the correct path for the image.

Ingrid, the class='smallphoto' does not bring in the photo to the header section, that should be done by the Template Settings.  When I look at the smallphoto image with the SeaMonkey inspector it shows  ::before:  after the <img>  and a </img>  so that leads me to believe that the index.php file was edited and contains invalid syntax that prevents the small photo from being displayed

Ingrid,

Those 2 files work correctly on my sandbox.  Are you sure that you have specified

img/Fam.Schuster_1966.jpg

in the Template 4 Header image:  input field?

Edited.  I even renamed my smallphoto image to use your name to make sure that the period in the file name was not an issue.

This is strange.

Ken,

thank you - that is good news, that those two files work correct.

yes, it is this image name.

I tried now the default image, called "smallphoto" ... still "the same", no photo displayed ...

Ingrid,

Try putting the file name in the field called Header image:  not the Title image field

Edited - It is very near the bottom of the Template 4 settings

Never noticed...that's the field I used in a successful field earlier, not the field Ingrid used. LOL

Ingrid,

Sorry it took so long to notice that you were using the wrong field for the small photo.

If you want, you can delete your index.php and topmenu.php file attachments from the previous post.
