Google Maps - More Place Levels Mod Install Issue

Recommended Posts

Michael T. Jones

I've tried to install the Google Maps - More Place Levels Mod on my localhost. I'm having an issue on the getperson page: in the Pin Legend at the bottom, it's not showing the labels or pins (If I use Safari) or not showing the pins (if I use Firefox or Chrome).

Screen Shot 2019-06-10 at 4.33.28 PM.png

At first I thought this was because I renamed the various $admtext['levelx'] entries in the .cfg file to my own names; but then I restored my localhost to its state before install and reinstalled the Mod as originally written and I'm getting the same result. Any ideas on what I need to do to fix this?

Thanks!

(TNG v12, PHP 7.1.23, MySQL 8.0.16; I'm using template 13 and the only other mod I have installed is the Census Plus International Mod.)

If you right click on one of those question marks, then "Open Image in New Window" what happens?

What is the URL it takes you to?

It puts up a question mark because it can't find the image. The URL It points to is:

http://192.168.1.6/google_text_marker.php?text=Address&image=009.png

In your setup, the "img" folder first few entries should be a series of .png files and 009 is one of them.

If they're missing, you can add from the complete setup files

Those images are there and accessible; for example, to the right of the map, the pin for a life event referred to by the URL:

http://192.168.1.6/google_marker.php?image=009.png&text=2

works, but the Pin Legend refers to:

http://192.168.1.6/google_text_marker.php?text=Address&image=009.png

which is a broken link.

Does the file google_text_marker.php exist on your site?

Being on your localhost it's hard to diagnose something like this.

Are there any entries in your error_log when you try to load

http://192.168.1.6/google_text_marker.php?text=Address&image=009.png

That's a great question. Where would I find the error_log file?

There would usually be a folder named logs (or similar) under your webserver root.

Ah, okay - it's in /var/log/apache2

There are quite a few things in there; I'm seeing a bunch of this:

[Mon Jun 10 16:51:30.670848 2019] [php7:error] [pid 4913] [client 192.168.1.4:55589] script '/Genealogy/google_text_marker.php' not found or unable to stat, referer: http://192.168.1.6/getperson.php?personID=I1&tree=JJ

What is the actual location of the file google_text_marker.php? The getperson page (from your error log) is looking in a folder named Genealogy. It should be in your TNG root.

My TNG root folder is Genealogy - all my TNG flies are in there.

Sounds like you are running more current software than TNG has been tested on, based on the problems you are reporting - Census Plus International mod using MySQL 8 and now Google Map pin issue

If I remember correctly, I opened the images with IrfanView and re-saved them to solve that issue.

I reported this problem to Darrin but it was discovered after TNG 12.1.0 was released

So since the Google Maps - More Place Levels Mod changes the pins, shouldn't the pins in the mod be updated?  It looks like Google maps 15 should have the pins updated as well.  Any of the other mods that add map pins would probably need to have their pins updated as well.

I see that I get those same warnings, but the pins still show on my localhost.

Brent,

I think the original TNG pins are at issue.   The Google Maps - More Place and Google maps 15 mod add a legend to the pin if I am not mistaken and the GD library call is what is failing when the pin with the text legend is being created. If I am not mistaken the TNG pins display with warnings if a mod is not being used.

If the mod pins need to be updated, I will look at Bart's Google maps 15 mod when I get back home in July

I searched my emails and I was getting the error on img/tng_restore.gif and img/tng_save.gif  which I suspect goes back to TNG v5 images.  Google map images go back to TNG v6.

It was only a problem on my local WampServer since my host is using libPNG Version 1.6.28

1 - what happens on your site when you try and load

http://192.168.1.6/google_marker.php?text=9&image=009.png

Does that draw a pin with 9 written in the centre of it?

Try coping this image (below) file to your /img folder to replace the 009.png that is currently there, and then try and load

http://192.168.1.6/google_text_marker.php?text=Address&image=009.png

and see if that will generate the pin with "Address" written under it

I get:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /google_marker.php on this server.

However, when I choose the pin to the right of a person's Event Map and open the address for the image of the pin with the address

http://192.168.1.6/google_marker.php?image=009.png&text=2

Then it works.

For what it's worth, the permissions of the google_marker.php and google_text_marker.php files are showing -rw-r--r--@ and -rw-r--r--, respectively. My /img folder is drwxr-xr-x@

Maybe I have a general issue with file permissions?

What are you running for a web server?  I somehow seem to remember you running IIS which has its own permission quirks

It's a Mac with High Sierra, so I'm using the included Apache 2.4.27 and PHP 7.1.7; and I installed MySQL 8.0.16 and phpMyAdmin.

Mac has its own security quirks also, but Roget uses a Mac so he should be able to help.  It must have been someone else reporting problems using IIS recently.

All that garbage after the filename indicates there is some issue with the links as copied from the posting above? It seems like there is some hidden garbage coming in from the forum somehow - this is the link as I pasted it into a text editor (BBEdit) after copying it from your post above

image.png

Those empty spaces are not spaces, and they're not tabs - I have no idea what they are...

Try these links which should be clean...

http://192.168.1.6/google_marker.php?text=9&image=009.png

http://192.168.1.6/google_text_marker.php?text=Address&image=009.png

Do either or both of these work?

Did you upload the revised 009.png file I put above?

If you change the 009 to some other number that you have in your img folder does it still work?

Roger
