Login required to view documents

Hello!
I'm a new user of TNG (v12) and I have a question about documents. I want my TNG site to be password protected, but I want to be able to share pdf-documents with people with a login/user account, preferably without having to re-type login/password. I tried uploading a few pdf-documents through the media import function in TNG admin. However, when I enter the direct URL for the pdf-document I was able to view it without being logged in. I've set the privacy settings to "require login" and "restrict access to assigned tree".

Will uploaded documents (and photos, I guess) be "open" for everyone with the URL, or is there a way to protect the documents in a way that you have to be logged in to view them?

I tried searching in the forum to see whether someone else has asked about this before. I found this:

That's the exact same question as mine. He was advised to code the reports within TNG. I thought that was what I did. Could someone please tell me how to do this?

Thanks,
Eirik

Thanks for your reply.

I tried uploading an image as well, just for testing, but the same happened. I could access the image via the URL without logging in.

I haven't tried any mods yet, but I guess that might be a solution.

Just as a follow on... I just tried accessing jpg photos on my site which requires one to log in and the log in screen popped as expected but when i tried to access a pdf file, it came right up, but then i knew the path of where the pdf is...

See the message ‘no permission to access server’. How do you set that up?... how does your system find the ip addresses that should have no access to your home page?

Kare, no idea why you can't see the front page as the front page should be visible to all except for those that i have banned the ip address for via cPanel as i ban ip ranges for ip addresses i find that hit the one public page  https://www.josephoranholtz.com/names/johnamesindex.php ... i have on the site too many times and i also ban ip's for ranges when i see via cPanel a particular ip address is trying to find a way in...

Kare, if i did it was not intentional, perhaps your ip address fell within a range i banned and it was not recently as i don't recall any Norway bans lately, usually China, Japan and Vietnam that try getting in to the site with WordPress related searches and i don't have a WordPress site...
