Gedcom file fails to import

Recommended Posts

Israel

In version 11 it loaded with no problems, My dabatabase has about 2000 people, it's about one megabyte in size. If I create a tree and import the file, it stops in about the 60% mark and won't finish. I loaded the file in the Gedcom folder and it did not work either.

admin test account:

user           test

password test

I only use TNG to display the information that I enter on my client PC software RootsMagic  version 7.5.8.0 Feel free to load whatever test gedcom file you want to use to test it. The hosting company is Nearlyfreespeech.net.    It's a full install  of version 12.0.3

I took a look at your site and the gedcom is there.

However, you have not created a tree to import it to.

Go to Admin/Trees/Add New and then try

Yes, I deleted the tree, but you can create a test tree if you like. The test account is an administrator account.

I created a test tree but something is wrong.

There are 2000 people, but they're only visible in admin.

I managed to get things working but not quite right yet

I changed the Root Path to

/home/public_html/

I believe that part of the site name is missing here (ftp user ID given by your hosting provider)

This is mine

/home/mullfam2/public_html/

The root path should be

/home/public/

You can always find out what it is meant to be by deleting the value in TNG Admin ------> Set Up ------> General Settings ------> Paths and Folders

Save the changes

Go back to that setting and the correct value is filled in by TNG

Save the Changes again.

(I have done that to the site now)

I see the people in the public side - eg

http://ojocaliente.nfshost.com/getperson.php?personID=I608&tree=Tree1

/home/public/  must be new for TNG12? (I'm still on 11)

That path was there already but the public side was not populated until I changed the path, but with an error.

Good you got it sorted

The path is nothing at all to do with TNG - it is solely dependent on the hosting service and the software they use to run their servers.

Thank you both, but how did you manage to import the whole file. I created another test tree, imported the file in the Gedcom folder and it keeps stopping.

Ok, I see now. Even if the progress bar doesn't reach the 100 per cent it still loads 2000 people.  Thank you both for your help.
