Relationships Chart - Birth vs Adopted Parents

Recommended Posts

RickGleason

I note that when I see a relationship chart using my TNG website, it always shows my adopted parents rather than my birth parents. I prefer the latter.

How to fix this?

Also, why are some of the names slightly boldfaced while others are not?

Thank you!

Have you linked yourself to both sets of parents ?

From my own site, the adopted person's edit page >>

You can make one or both parents "Birth" and "Adopted" (I just enter once)

This gives two charts for the person (note Birth parents first) with an indicator that another (adoptive) family exists, and you can click on the indicator to see the other family.

As for the bolded text, sorry I have no idea.

Yes, I am linked to both sets as seen in the attached screenshots.

Your own chart is working and I think I understand this now.

The chart shown was from a relationship calculation to Timothy and it will display depending on whom you choose.

i.e. in some cases it will show your birth parents but with others, your adoptive ones.

Thanks for the quick reply. What you said would make sense if it were not for the fact that my adopted mother Maxine is the sister of my birth father Richard. So, the relationship to Timothy is exactly the same.

From my own site example of an adopted person, I did a calulation with an ancestor of his.

It gave two relationships for the same ancestor > 4th cousin and 4th cousin once removed.

In the first instance, the adopted person's adopted parents were given and in the second (once removed) his birth parents.

I forgot to ask : in Admin/Relationship Chart, what is your initial setting ?

My own generation setting is 4 for initial view

If yours is set to 1, try upping it and do the calculation again.

That worked! Just increased initial view from 1 to 4. Now, as you experienced, I get two charts. The first using the adoptive family, the second using my natural parents.

Thank you!

Jay,

I think you're referring to manofull's chart and not mine. I noticed that as well. His has those extra options, while my own does not

Maybe he can tell us ...??
