How to Create New User Pages for Newbies

All that and I STILL don't know where to begin because I cannot find: historytemplate.php in my public_html folder. "Histories" are there but I cannot find any php file.

I am using TNG V 11.0.1 and template 12. I am using Simply Hosting and can see my directory through cpanel access.

At the moment, I am feeling newer than a newbie and feel I must be missing something simple. Usually I can follow directions well but adding a new page is defying me.

I would appreciate help pointing me in the right direction . . . Thanks much, Margie B.

Happy New Year,

I do all my editing through FTP however I just checked in my CPanel and I am able to see the files when I click on the public_html folder. I remember having the same problem finding these when i started. They have to be there somewhere for your site to operate.

Try clicking on the public_html folder icon and the files should all appear on the right, although you will need to scroll down quite a bit to find the actual file.

Help Please! I think I have figured out how to create the new page I need, called historytemptest.php. It is saved in a TNG subfolder called extrapgs and has been uploaded to the Simply Hosting server where it is under public_html/extrapgs. I am using TNG v11.0.1 and template 12. This is a test . . . when I get it working, I'll preserve a template.

1) Could someone check my historytemptest.php file attached? I have copied lines to .doc file - hope you can read it. historytemptest.doc

It seems straightforward but I want to make sure it is correct before I go on

2) Then HOW do I link to home page? Or list the file on a menu? Or get it on my site for that matter? Is it already there somewhere? Have I got my paths right?

I cannot find specific instructions for this next step. . . I see this below but I'm can't go further. Can someone point me in right direction if notes for this procedure are already out there? Thanks for your help!

//STEP 9: When linking to your new page from your TNG home page, header or footer, use the complete path you entered above.

//  For example: <a href="/path_to_your_page/mynewhistory.php">This is a link to my new history</a>

So my complete path would be (without the //) //<a href="/tng/extrapgs/historytemptest.php">This is a link to a story</a>

Your historytemplate.php file is a lot different than the one I have in TNG 10 so posting a fresh copy of that may be helpful. (for me at least)

I converted your word document to a php file and put it on my site, but it came up blank. So I the put what you had on the main part of your page into one of my test pages and it worked (although there was a little error with the header <p class> coding).

As I eluded to before, I am on TNG 10, so this file (attached below) may not work on your site.

Yes it is already on your site. To get to it, you simply put /tng/extrapgs/historytemptest.php after your url.

correction... /extrapgs/historytemptest.php

A link to your site would be helpful in providing more help if required.

  • 7 years later...

I have created a php file to add "More Stories" as an extra user page.  I currently have it set up in the following path: public_html/TNG/histories/morestories/morestories.php.  I have also tried putting the morestories folder directly under the TNG directory as follows: public_html/TNG/morestories/morestories.php.  I am attaching my php file here because I can't get it to work and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.  Also, I would really like to just add "More Stories" to the "Our Stories" menu item on template20, but have no idea how to do that.  Please help!  Thanks.  Colleen Morton
