	V10.0.3:  I am having trouble with entering umlaut letters (ü, ö, ä) into text.  I have tried &amp;uuml and Alt+0252 with initial acceptance but then when I save and refresh the umlaut letter is replaced with a "?".  This seems to be somewhat random but eventually the all umlaut letters are replaced with a "?".  After doing some searching on this Forum I came across the recommendation to check the phpMyAdmin database to be sure all the collation is the same ... it is: "latin1_swedish_ci"; and then check the Language Folder in <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding"><abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr></abbr> : was English and Character Set: ISO-8859-1;  which I changed to Language: English UTF8 and Character Set: UTF-8.  Same result, umlaut characters replaced with a "?".  Any suggestions?  Thanks, Doug

	I am a native German, that's why I'm using language German-UTF8 in my <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> 13.0.4. My current template is no. 14. I get an error message (see screenshot).

<p>
	File English-UTF8/admintext.php line 784 reads:
</p>

<p>
	        $admtext['headline'] = "Headline"; //4, 7

<p>
	This line is missing in file German-UTF8/admintext.php. Maybe it should read:
</p>

<p>
	        $admtext['headline'] = "Überschrift"; //4, 7
</p>

<p>
	Though this line is not relevant for template 14, it's absence produces the error message. I would appreciate if Darrin would insert such a line in the German language (and other languages?) on a appropriate position. In German-UTF-8 it is <strong>not </strong>line 784! I assume that another variable is missing obove line 784!

<p>
	Hello again experts
</p>

<p>
	<strong>18-06-2021 11:31 (UTC +2): Solved manually via  phpMyAdmin.</strong>
</p>

<p>
	I have read this article about language files (text variables) again: <a href="https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Text_variables_-_explained" ipsnoembed="true" rel="external nofollow">https://<abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">tng</abbr>.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.php?title=Text_variables_-_explained</a> but maybe there is something I do not understand.
</p>

<p>
	I have three languages on my site: Danish, English and German, but I realize that the German language is not shown correct though all the variables are present in German in the four files in the German-UTF8 folder.
</p>

<p>
	When I look in the tng_eventtypes table it looks for example like this: (None of my 82 events have the German launguage):
</p>

<p>
	(13, 'ADDR', '', 'Danish-UTF8|Addresse|English-UTF8|Address', 1, 0, 0, 0, 'I'),
</p>

<p>
	But it should look like this:
</p>

<p>
	(13, 'ADDR', '', 'Danish-UTF8|Addresse|English-UTF8|Address|German-UTF8|Adresse', 1, 0, 0, 0, 'I'),
</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Isn't the idea behind the languages that |German-UTF8|Adresse should be created automatically?
	</li>
	<li>
		I have tested if I could use <span class="plainheader">Custom Event Types</span> i <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> itself. But maybe I do something wrong, because the the values in tng_eventtypes table do not change. I enter data  as shown on the screenshot. Is that wrong?
	</li>
	<li>
		I have exported the tng_eventtypes.sql and have started to add German manually with Notepad++ for all the eventtypes. Is that stupid? Will that table be overwritten with the next new version and I have the wasted my time?
	</li>
</ol>

<p>
	Hi there,
</p>

<p>
	<strong>SOLVED</strong>
</p>

<p>
	<span style="color:#c0392b;">Maybe I have completely misunderstood everything about languages...</span>
</p>

<p>
	I have template 209, which supports more languages, and I have installed Danish-UTF8 and English-UTF8. I can change between the languages. That part works fine.
</p>

<p>
	Q 1) After kind advise and inspiration from Rob, I have decided to have my front page translated into English by someone who is better at English, than I am. Where (in which file) do I place the English version?
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Edited</strong>: okay maybe I have solved Q 1 my self: It as simple as 'choosing 'Create copy in' in template 209?
</p>

<p>
	Q 2) Where do I change the fields/labels? What I don't understand is, that there is only <em>one </em>database - but the fields/labels must be stored somewhere?
</p>

<p>
	I had i.e.. this issue: Even though I chose Danish, I got the label 'Census', but I Danish it should be 'Folketælling', so I translated them directly in the database table: tng_sources fields 'title' and 'shorttitle'. So now it is correct, when I choose Danish in the frontend, but (of course) it is wrong when I choose English.
</p>

<p>
	Can one of you advise me the central link to the explanation about how I should handle the languages?
</p>

<p>
	Best regards,<br>
	Hanne,<br>
	Denmark

<p>
	Greetings,
</p>

<p>
	I searched this form, and the wiki, and came up empty handed. Is there documentation that describes the process for contributing a translation? Things like:
</p>

<ul>
<li>
		Is there source control? Where?
	</li>
	<li>
		How do I go about submitting the translation sources?
	</li>
	<li>
		Is there a review of the proposed additions/changes?
	</li>
	<li>
		Test that need running and passing?
	</li>
	<li>
		Are translations distributed via some other mechanism?
	</li>
</ul>
<p>
	In my case I have a Bulgarian translation - /languages/Bulgarian-UTF8 set of files. How do I offer them to the project.
</p>

<p>
	Now, on a somewhat tangent topic, I found the <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> localization facilities less than optimal. There were multiple entries for the same key. There's no context provided of what and where the usage would be. In addition there's no way to accommodate the complexity of words used in Bulgarian to describe kinship. To start the language is gender based, so there are different words depending if the subject is male or female. A lot of times I can do away by adding /suffix - съпруг/а. But then there's the case where a totally different word is used for my mother's brother than my father's brother. And it gets more complicated for the in-law relationships. I use one word for my wife's brother, but he uses a different one for me. Perhaps translators for other languages had the same trouble trying to fit into the provided limited set of keys that are based on the more simple English kinship words. Regardless - very interesting in the way languages differ.
</p>

<p>
	Cheers,
</p>

<p>
	I currently have a website for our association that is bilingual (french and english).  All of my pages, blogs, menus etc are in both languages.    In my main menu at the top of the screen, I have a language switcher with the option French or English.  If the user is on a french page and uses the Language Switcher to English, the whole website changes to English (Main menu, footer, page content).
</p>

<p>
	I am in the process of integrating <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> on my website using the Kloosterman method.  I have not yet published the page to the public but the integration is working perfectly and uses my web page designs.   The only issue is the language that <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> will present the screens in.  I have set up both French and English on my <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> setup, but is there a way that when you go to the <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> page, it would automatically open on the language that was already chosen by the user with the Language Switcher on the main menu.  Ex:  If the user is on any page in French, when he clicks on my link to go to the <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> page, it would automatically open in French and if he uses the Language switcher to change to English, it would refresh automatically like the rest of the pages.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks

	Is there a way to display the name and description of a report in multiple languages?<br>
	My page is available in German, English and Czech - I helped it once as in the attached picture, but that's not really "nice".
</p>

<p>
	Thank you in advance,

	I have a bilingual wordpress (French and English) site where I have incorporated my genealogy using <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr>.   Is there a configuration where if the user is on my <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> pages and change the language from French to English on my main menu, it will automatically switch to the English version of <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr>?   Currently, if I leave the <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> setting where users can change languages, it does not update the whole site, but only the <abbr title="The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding">TNG</abbr> settings.
