  2. Here's what I get when I do that: Thumbnails not generated due to path, permissions, size or file name problems: 1211 Does it have to do with local paths? (see screenshot) I have successfully, manually, uploaded some images from my computer, but if I need to somehow separate out the images that are embedded in the GEDCOM and upload THEM to a TNG folder, I don't know how to do that.

    pictures not downloading with gedcom file

    Hazel I don't use gedcoms myself (all manual) but to see images on your website, the media files have to be uploaded to the respective TNG folders. If your files have been uploaded, go to Admin/Media/Thumbnails, check/tick the two little boxes and and hit the Generate button M
  4. Yes, I'm using P. Oh, but maybe that's why it didn't work when I tried the GEDCOM from FTM? Still, how can I get the GEDCOM from Ancestry to show the images, when all the links are there?
  5. manofmull

    Hazel If using a gedcom from Ancestry, remember that they use prefix P and your site will have to use the same (in Admin/Prefixes) Michael

  7. Part of me is happy that I'm not the only one having trouble with this. But I'm getting a headache trying to figure out how similar or different my situation is, in order to learn from your experiences. Ugh! I am downloading my GEDCOM from Ancestry. It's easy, and the media LINKS are all there...but when I click on the links I see no images. Help! I keep delaying showing the site to my family because of this. And I keep thinking I can figure it out, but I haven't yet. Sigh... I asked TNG creator Darrin Lythgoe about it and he suggested I try downloading my GEDCOM from FTM instead of from Ancestry. (My Ancestry account syncs with my FTM, but FTM is primarily back up for me. I tend to work in Ancestry. But it really shouldn't matter where I get the GEDCOM file from, should it?) However, when I tried that I couldn't see my TREE anymore. Not sure what went wrong there. He seems really nice, but I don't want to keep bugging him, you know?
  8. Pat After scratching my head for a few minutes, I see what's wrong. Mahulda has been entered as a SURNAME I'm guessing that the others are likewise I have surnames in uppercase! Michael
  9. Michael, thank you for your offer to take a look. familydowns.com username guest password guest For example, look at the wife of John Walker Mayberry b. 1816. His wife Mahulda can't be found if you search for her by name. I've had a couple other examples but can't remember them now. I'm truly curious.

    Updating code for PHP 7.2

    The warning is telling you that you need to enclose your variable names in single quotes ('pcount' for pcount etc). Have a look at the lines in your .template8/index.php file indicated in the warning message and add the single quotes where indicated Alan
  12. Pat Please give your website URL in order for others to take a look Michael
  13. This isn't a big problem, but as a computer guy, I'm technically curious about what's going on. I have an individual (I1994) named Mahulda with no last name. When I do a search to find her using her first name I get "No results found." But if I look up her husband and then look at his wife she is certainly there. I was updating media links and occasionally I have to do this type of look up and then add a link based on the individuals' number, not their name. Can anyone tell me what's happening? I am typing the name correctly! And as I was probing this, I found that for all the people (spouses generally) where I have given them the name "Unknown" they all have last names. I find that curious, too. The source of my Gedcom for TNG was FTM.

    Updating code for PHP 7.2

    Hi, I have the following custom code in my index.php file which is working fine. $query = "SELECT count(id) as pcount FROM $people_table $wherestr"; $result = tng_query($query) or die ("$text[cannotexecutequery]: $query"); $row = tng_fetch_assoc( $result ); $totalpeople = number_format ($row[pcount]); tng_free_result($result); $query = "SELECT DATE_FORMAT(lastimportdate,\"%e %b %Y\") as lastimportdate2 FROM $trees_table"; $result = tng_query($query) or die ($text['cannotexecutequery'] . ": $query"); $treerow = tng_fetch_array( $result, MYSQL_ASSOC ); $lastimportdate = $treerow['lastimportdate2']; When updating to php v7.2, it throws the following errors. Can anyone assist in advising the update required to remove these errors? PHP Warning: Use of undefined constant pcount - assumed 'pcount' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/kempfamily/public_html/templates/template8/index.php on line 5 PHP Warning: Use of undefined constant MYSQL_ASSOC - assumed 'MYSQL_ASSOC' (this will throw an Error in a future version of PHP) in /home/kempfamily/public_html/templates/template8/index.php on line 19 Thanks.
  15. An update.... I worked out that I probably needed to change the footer for template 15, so I searched for 'searchsite' in that file and commented out the following section (which in this case needed the HTML comments): <!-- <div class="footer-widgets-3 widget-area"> <section class="widget widget_search"> <div class=""> <h4 class="widget-title-footer"><?php echo $text['search']; ?></h4> <form method="get" class="search-form" action="helpme" role="search" onsubmit="return searchGoogleWebSite('<?php echo $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']); ?>')"> <input name="s" id="GoogleText" placeholder="<?php echo $text['searchsite']; ?> ..." type="search"> <input value="<?php echo $text['search']; ?>" type="submit"> </form>--> This has done the trick and my site is still working! Thank you all for all your help, Sharon
  16. Thank you Ron. I didn't realise there were different kinds of comment code - I'm not sure I know how to tell HTML from PHP anyway 😕 so thank you for that. I've made all those changes above, but I am still left with the Search Site box on my front page. This is the one I really want to get rid off. Is there a way to do that please? I don't really know what mods are or what benefit they can bring and as I've been happy so far with TNG (I was using v9 until this last month) I have never felt the need to use or look into mods. Maybe this is something I will need to get into, but hopefully not yet - I feel I am on such a steep learning curve at the moment I don't think I can cope with going off in another tangent. I record all my changes in a word document (so far in TNG 12 just adding history pages and images). This is the first time I've attempted to change any of the actual TNG files. Thank you though for your offer and your help. I may take you up on it in the future. Regards, Sharon

    How to disable google Site Search

    Sharon, You are getting http errors because the comment of a php statement is different than an html statement. You precede a line to be commented with forward slash "//", whereas "<--" is for html. (note that's left arrow dash dash; the font here merges the dashes to look like one character). To remove the search site button from the person and family search forms, you comment one line int searchform.php and one line in familysearchform.php. You shouldn't have to alter searchsite.php or genlib for to remove from the form. I always recommend a private mod to do these type of changes, so you dont forget, and have control through mod manager to uninstall before any TNG update. This is on TNG 12.2b ===================================== famsearchform.php: ~line 460 <-- <a href="<?php echo $cms['tngpath']; ?>searchsite.php" class="snlink">&raquo; <?php echo $text['searchsitemenu']; ?></a> --> searchform.php: ~ line 646 <-- <a href="<?php echo $cms['tngpath']; ?>searchsite.php" class="snlink">&raquo; <?php echo $text['searchsitemenu']; ?></a> --> The above is *only* for removal of searchsite button from the forms displayed when hitting 'advanced search' anywhere in TNG. To remove from the dropdown, genlib.php: ~line645 // $menu .= tngddrow(getURL( "searchsite", 0 ), "searchsite-icon", "", "searchsitemenu"); ~line 956 should be changed to (searchsite is dropped): (before) $fullmenu .= "<span class=\"subhead\"><strong>{$text['search']}</strong> | <a href=\"$searchform_url\">{$text['mnuadvancedsearch']}</a> | <a href=\"$famsearch_url\">{$text['searchfams']}</a> | <a href=\"$searchsite_url\">{$text['searchsitemenu']}</a></span><br/><br/>"; (after) $fullmenu .= "<span class=\"subhead\"><strong>{$text['search']}</strong> | <a href=\"$searchform_url\">{$text['mnuadvancedsearch']}</a> | <a href=\"$famsearch_url\">{$text['searchfams']}</a> </span><br/><br/>"; ============================= This works in my testing. I no longer think searchsite.php needs any change because a user would have to type in the URL manually,...but...to remove even that possibility: ============================= searchsite.php: ~line 6 should be changed to (will return user or visitor to searchform) (before) if($requirelogin && !$currentuser) { (after) if(!$currentuser || $currentuser) { ================================= Line numbers may be slightly different depending on your TNG version. If you wish, contact me via personal messaging for creating a mod to do this. Ron
  19. Ok. This isn't working for me. I've commented out the following lines in these files: Famsearch.php ..... <!-- <a href="<?php echo $cms['tngpath']; ?>searchsite.php" class="snlink">&raquo; <?php echo $text['searchsitemenu']; ?></a>--> Searchsite.php ...... <!-- <h1 class="header"><span class="headericon" id="searchsite-hdr-icon"></span><?php echo $text['searchsitemenu'];?></h1><br clear="all" />--> and <!-- $formstr = getFORM( "", "GET", "searchsite", "", $onsubmit );--> Searchform.php ... <!-- <a href="<?php echo $cms['tngpath']; ?>searchsite.php" class="snlink">&raquo; <?php echo $text['searchsitemenu']; ?></a>--> At this point my site is working, but the site search box is still visible, so no change. But when I comment out these lines in Genlib.php ..... <!-- $menu .= tngddrow(getURL( "searchsite", 0 ), "searchsite-icon", "", "searchsitemenu");--> <!-- $searchsite_url = getURL( "searchsite", 0 );--> <!-- $fullmenu .= "<span class=\"subhead\"><strong>{$text['search']}</strong> | <a href=\"$searchform_url\">{$text['mnuadvancedsearch']}</a> | <a href=\"$famsearch_url\">{$text['searchfams']}</a> | <a href=\"$searchsite_url\">{$text['searchsitemenu']}</a></span><br/><br/>";--> - when I reload my front page I get a HTTP error 500 and a message that says - This page isn’t working parcel-of-rogues.org.uk is currently unable to handle this request. It looks as though it didn't like me commenting out the code in genlib.php. I've copied the lines above with the comment out code <!-- etc, just in case I should be using something else to comment out these lines. What have I done wrong please? Thank you, Sharon
  20. Thank you. I'll go back to the original thread, bearing in mind your post above Manofmull. I agree that something on the front page like this search box should have an off switch. My site requires login access, but I can't get any results from it anyway, even when I'm logged in as Admin. I also think the idea of a basic start-up version is a good one, with perhaps different 'suites' of functionality that can be added in as desired, but this would mean having a good description of what additional functionality is available. And that brings me to something else that hits me everytime I try and use the Wiki - sorry but you'll probably all hate me for this - a) I can never find what I am looking for and b) when I do I can rarely understand with confidence what is written there. Maybe the pages are meant for devlopers or those with coding experience, which is fair enough, but in that case there should be something for us non-develoers to help us understand how to get the best from what is actually a brilliant piece of software. The best I have ever seen for displaying my familying tree on the internet. Apologies if I have totally misunderstood the purpose of the Wiki., but thank you all again for your help. Sharon
  21. Jean-Pierre, Take a look at the TNG Wiki article - Setup - Privacy TNG does not display any data on Living persons, except to those logged in users who where granted Allow to view information for living individuals if you set the Admin > Setup > General Settings > Privacy section option for Show Living Data: to Depending on User rights You also need to restrict the user to whom you grant the privilege to a branch / tree
  22. Hello Chris, Thank you for your answer. I think my request was not really clear. These days, as you know, it is difficult to publish birth dates for living people. So, I'm looking for a way to ensure that birthdays date only for living people are not available to everyone. Even better, it would be nice if we could for example hide birth dates for people under 30 years old. I'm using MFT and I can not, I believe, export a gedcom with these parameters. Borther's Keeper is a bit more flexible, but ideally it would be that TNG can do it directly by adjusting parameters. Like that, I would not have to make complicated Gedcom export filters. What do you think ? Jean-Pierre, from Quebec City

    How to disable google Site Search

    Alan I couldn't agree with you more!. Darrin has done a great job with TNG but he should consider that too much is not always good (memories of Microsoft here). I have over 70 mods installed, half of which I consider essential. Yet they have never been added to TNG core and we have to accept DNA / Google etc? I'm happy for anything to be added but a disable/removal button for any feature should also be included. Rant over lol. M

    How to disable google Site Search

    Maybe we should ask Darrin to consider a cut down starter version of TNG based on TNG10.1.3 but capable of running on PHP 7.2 (?.3). Would be ideal for new users and some oldsters I guess) We could form a committee to decide what to add and what to leave out (DNA for instance). Dearly love a limited number of templates which are w3c valid. Just a thought. I've already put my tin hat on in expectation! Cheers Alan

    How to disable google Site Search

    Sharon You've just reminded me of another reason I hated TNG11 and wish I'd stuck to v10 I detested this google***p (forgive me) and quickly deleted the code per Ron's post famsearchform genlib searchsite searchform I removed the following but please read Ron's reply about genlib.php. This worked for me = grrrrr the memories lol. 664:$menu .= tngddrow(getURL( "searchsite", 0 ), "searchsite-icon", "", "searchsitemenu"); 975:$searchsite_url = getURL( "searchsite", 0 ); 979:$fullmenu .= "<span class=\"subhead\"><strong>{$text['search']}</strong> | <a href=\"$searchform_url\">{$text['mnuadvancedsearch']}</a> | <a href=\"$famsearch_url\">{$text['searchfams']}</a> | <a href=\"$searchsite_url\">{$text['searchsitemenu']}</a></span><br/><br/>"; Michael
  26. There was a thread a couple of years ago about disabling "Site Search" with recommendations for changing code in some files, or downloading a mod to do this, but the end results of that thread seemed to me to be that the mod caused errors, and it was unclear (again to me) what code and which of the files needed changing. I am using TNG v12, template 15 and the site search is still there with no means of disabling it that I can see. My site requires login, and in the thread, it was suggested that the search would be appropriate once people were logged in. However, even as Administrator this search always returns no results whatever I type in. Has anyone come up with a standard way of disabling this yet please? Thank you. Sharon

    Receiving Emails from Users

    We have three administrators for our website. All is well except: - how do we designate who will receive emails from family/friends requesting a user ID to access our tree? I do understand about the different roles that can be assigned to new users. Right now none of the three of us is receiving new user email requests. We find them after logging in and accessing "users", then "review". - how do we designate who will receive emails from users with suggestions for edits? We are allowing our users to have the right to make such suggestions, but so far none of us is receiving the emails from users with suggestions for edits. I set up a "dummy" account, allowing this account to make suggestions for edits. I then went into this account, found a place to suggest edits, sent an email with these suggestions, but no one received it. What am I missing? Many thanks for any suggestions and guidance.
