    Relationships in 13.1.1

Bob, Good. Hopefully Brent will be releasing the updated version soon because you have confirmed the results I had with the older version in TNG 13.1.1. There is at least one install order dependency listed in the mod's wiki article, that the reldisplay mod must be installed before the Living Color mod. I have also found some others as well in my environment, so I usually install the mod early in the install list. Just my way, but I force such mods to install by latering the sort order with a numeric prefix on the mod name in the cfg file and mod manager sorted by mod names. That way I don't need to remember when I do a full 'batch' uninstall or install of mods.

    Relationships in 13.1.1

tngrlkrz I installed the mod and it seems to be working properly. Right names, right relationships. Not tested anything else to see if it impacts other mods or the core. Thank you Bob Foley

    Relationships in 13.1.1

There is an issue with the mod in TNG 13.1.1 in certain situations. Brent has been working on a PHP 8 warning free version, and in helping him test, ran into an issue similar to the display you have. I shall PM you this version. See if it improves things.

Have you correctly set the values in the Relationship to Site Owner Mod to reflect the right tree and personID of the site owner (you)? Roger

    Relationships in 13.1.1

Have been running Relation Display by Jeff Robinson for a long time.. I updated TNG to 13.1.1 and now it does not work. Shows incorrect relationship to anyone in the tree, yet core relationship process is fine. Then I tried Roger Moffat's Relationship to Site Owner and had slightly different results. Contacted Jeff and so far no response. Hopefully Roger will pick up on this and comment. The first image below is from Site Owner and is father and my relationship. The one from Relation Display is relationship to myself.

    External Events timeline

Thank you both for your help. theKiwi - I saw the Timeline results in Wiki but was a bit blinded by the technicalties. I also wasn't sure if this was the same thing I wanted or the individual's timeline of facts. Now I know they refer to what I'm interested in I'll go back and have a better look. Given the help I've received on this post, maybe I'll leave it up as others might find it useful too. What do you think? But I'll bear the ***deleted*** edit in mind for future reference - thank you. PeterC66 - your example looks very interesting. It's pretty much what I am looking for - Including local events as well as those of a wider interest. I would be very interested in having a copy of the mod please. I appreciate you cannot support it, but does it get implemented in the same way as other mods? - ie will I find installation instructions somewhere (I don't think I've ever installed a mod). Will it include files for me to populate with my own data? Regards, Sharon

    Age automaticly calculated pr event

Tore, a new version is written and will be published ASAP. It uses the native TNG age() function. Michel

    Age at Marriage Mod

If you write your own (let say) age() function => function myAgeCalculation() into an external file You must call your function from inside TNG. ...And then modify the TNG code to call your new function instead the TNG native age() function. And include your external file everywhere you want to use your function... Michel

    Book mod

At least, use include("$modspath/Book/person.class.php"); instead include("mods/Book/person.class.php"); ... and write a function tng_fetch_all() ! This function seems to not exists in the native TNG code. Michel

    External Events timeline

If you are interested in timelines I did a little unofficial mod to have three categories of external events (National, county and local) which you can see at eg this example. You can toggle the display of the different categories. I maintain my own .bak file of categorised events which I can load using TNG Restore. I can provide the mod to anyone but cannot support it properly.

    Problem with multi language links

Thank you both of you. I have finally got the hang of it. The thing I didn’t understand, because I am not a programmer, was that the variable ‘$mylanguage’ selects which language to display. I originally thought, after reading the explanatory text in the maternal.php file that you needed to substitute ‘$mylanguage’ with e.g. ‘French-UTF8’ in order to get French text on the screen. In doing so, I changed the ‘include’ statement to be static instead of dynamic. Again, thanks for your support.

    Problem with multi language links

@Clan46, Have a look at this post, where Ken has provided examples and explanations.. I have got the logic.. Just watch that the paths you provide suit your setup.. There may also be some changes to the code, given the date of this Post..

    edit ribbon menu

An Update re this issue!! We asked Darrin to check it out, after a few suggestions, he went in and has resolved the issue. For Template 18 index.php AT LEAST IF you do set the $flags['noicons'] = true; to false then add the following two lines of code below that line $tngprint = 0; // Turns off the 'PRINT' BUTTON for the main menu $flags['scripting'] = "<script type=\"text/javascript\" src=\"{$cms['tngpath']}js/litbox.js\"></script>\n"; // Adds the code for the login popup Thanks Darrin for helping out..

    External Events timeline

You can also look on the TNG Wiki for Timeline - I'm pretty sure there are some files there that other people have created. You can download one of them, and put it in your backups folder, then restore it from TNG Admin ------> Utilities and it will over-write what you have now. That doesn't seem to be possible for Members. If you do get into a situation where you want to remove an answer, your can Edit your post and remove all the content from it - just replace it with something like **deleted** and when I see it I will hide it so no one else sees it. Roger the Admin.
  20. Please ignore my question below - within minutes of posting it, and despite searching the forum and wiki for quite some time, I accidentally came across the way to do this under the Timeline Events section of the Amin page of my website. 🤦‍♀️ What I need to know now though is how to delete a post on this forum. 🤦‍♀️ Thank you I am using TNG 12.1. I am interested in the use of timelines of external events to put an ancestor's life into context with events going on around them. There is something like that already a part of TNG though the events shown appear to be few and far between. Is there a way to view the events in this file and to add or delete events. I would like to see some events from more popular history which might capture the imagination more - for example: - 1712 Last execution for witchcraft, 1719 Robinson Crusoe published, 1739 Dick Turpin hanged. Does anyone know if a timeline alike this already exists which could be imported? At the moment, given my ancestry, I am most interested in British popular history. Thank you 😊

    Problem with multi language links

Sorry, I do not have time to draw you a flowchart. Using the maternal.php file as an example, you would save the maternal.php file in your histories (or any other subfolder to TNG), you would then save the language_maternal.php file (minus the lines I identified previously that contain the include statement again) in to your language folders. I will use the UTF-8 folder names, so you would save the language specific content in English-ITF8/maternal.php French-UTF8/maternal.php German-UTF8/maternal.php Swedish-UTF8/maternal.php The maternal.php file in your histories would contain include($cms['tngpath'] . "$mylanguage/maternal.php"); which tells TNG to get the file from the language folder the site is currently being displayed in. Note that if the language folder does not contain the included file, it will result in a 404 error - file not found. Thus you need to save a copy of the file in all the languages you added to your site in Admin > Languages. If your language is English in the admin > Setup > Languages section, it also needs to be defined in your Admin > Languages If you have not translated the content yet, then you need to include the English version in all the languages you specified in Admin > Languages

    Problem with multi language links

No, I am sorry, I still don't understand which files go where and what they should contain in order for TNG to select the correct language file to display. In your example you state that the include statement in my maternal.php file in the histories folder should call a file with the same name in a language folder. But which one of my 4 language folders? I guess would need a concrete example or a flowchart to understand the logic of multi language file relations.
  23. Ken Roy

    Problem with multi language links

You need to name the files the same name as the file you are calling them from but place them in the appropriate language folder. For example, if you have a file name maternal.php in your histories folder, then the include should be also called maternal.php, for example include($cms['tngpath'] . "$mylanguage/maternal.php"); You would then save the file you want to include in each respective language folder you want to use and translate it in the respective language. Deepl translator might provide better translations that Google Sorry it was not easy to provide language examples in the same folder, so I name the file language_maternal.php I hope that explains it a bit better
  24. Clan46

    Problem with multi language links

OK, so let’s say I have a maternal.php file in the histories folder. From this file I extract the text I want to translate to other languages and create 4 separate files (language_maternal.php) and place them in their respective language folders. In the maternal.php file I am supposed to activate the include statement at the end of the php section. Which file(s) should this include statement point to? I cannot put in 4 include statements, one for each language, because then all 4 languages will show up on the screen, one after this other. I must have missed a something obvious.
  25. Ken Roy

    Problem with multi language links

Did you look at the above links in the TNG Wiki? TNG sets variables for what language to use and updates the variable when you switch language. The example maternal.php file should be saved in a subfolder to your TNG folder, which could be your histories folder or a user-created folder. The language_maternal.php file example would be saved in your specific language folder, for example French-UTF8, if you are using French and your site is using UTF-8 character set, based on how you Setup - Languages

    Ajax and Logging In

Scott, I will second Kens advise.. Might help solve another Login issue too!!
  27. Clan46

    Problem with multi language links

I was too quick in stating that everything is OK. My original problem in correctly addressing the language specific files has been solved, but I still haven’t fully understood the logic in multi language situations, e.g. · how does the TNG program know which file to select when changing language in the top right corner of the screen, and also · which files (maternal.php and language_maternal.php) should be placed in which folder and what file should each file call (“include” statement)?
  28. Ken Roy

    Ajax and Logging In

Scott, Maybe you should share your findings directly with Darrin. I know that TNG does not return the correct page on a login in my case but I always interpreted that as caused by my having more than one tab pointing to the site.
